Description

Chimney-like design with a loose-fitting, vented lid and tight-fitting doors creates a constant flow of new smoke for maximum flavor. Smoke flow may be minimized, without extinguishing the smoking source, by shutting all vents and only allowing smoke to vent around hood perimeter. Slow cooking feature allows for maximum flavor and moisture, perfecting a juicy and tender product with less effort. The smokers are specifically made to have a gap. It allows for minimal air flow and venting that the smoker needs to smoke properly. No more tending the coals every hour when smoking meats; Meco's Combo Water Smoker offers optimal control, longer cook time, and less monitoring than traditional charcoal smokers. Perfect for smoking chicken, fish, and other meats to a savory finish, the combo smoker coils boil water to produce steam and burn wood chips to produce smoke that, together, more efficiently penetrate and flavor meats while they cook. The combo smoker features a removable thermostat control with low, medium, and high settings for smoking just about anything, from thin strips of sockeye to thick beef briskets.   • Great smoke for the price.
Great smoker, my first electric. does a nice job smoking. Well built for the price. Easy to move from garage to outdoors and back. Assembly was easy. Was missing the drainage pan, which was sent by the manufacturer fairly quickly, turned out to be a same size as a small aluminum pie or pot pie pan. Easy to clean. I recommend a degree thermometer as the one with the unit, I believe, is faulty and gives an inaccurate temp range. All in all, I do recommend this for the guy who wants to smoke some meat and who doesn't want to keep checking the temp as often as a wood smoker. Chips are easy to add and not expensive. So All Good! ... show more

Smoker struggles to get up to temp and maintain temp if it gets close. The lid doesn't sit snuggly either. Poorly made and nonfunctional

  • Solid smoker built in the USA!
Quality unit. Just assembled it tonight but I have smoked enough throughout the years with this design to give an accurate review already. MADE IN THE USA is a big plus! It assembled easy in about an hour without rushing. The stainless water pan is a big plus also. I've had many steel pans rust through. Electric is the way to go for your home if you are undecided. You lay the wet wood right on the element and it gives more smoke than about anything else you can fine. It has a thermostat which helps a ton with temp control. so many times your fire starts burning hotter, or the wind picks up or slows down and those conditions effect your temperature drastically. The electric set it and it'll do the work! The outside of the unit is not the heaviest material but it is plenty adequate. The finish id very good as it will not show a discolor like some painted smokers. Most smokers of this style when you lift it by the handles the bottom stays in place and it has to be moved separately. this one can lock together and you can scoot it over a little while using it by simply lifting the side handles. That is a big plus that you wouldn't think it's a big deal. The smoke doors are of sound quality. For 100.00 delivered it can not be beat! ... show more

  • Great economical smoker!
The reviews that complained it doesn't get hot enough slowed me down on buying this smoker. After getting it and evaluating it a bit, I'm convinced those people were using an unworthy extension cord to power it. It requires a lot of wattage and a long and/or undersized extension cord will really reduce the heat it can produce. I plugged it directly into a 15 amp circuit and it's working like a champ smoking a batch of king mackerel for fish dip. I had to turn it down to medium to keep the temperature in the middle of "ideal" (which I think is around 240 degrees or so) so it has plenty of power. My wife is chomping at the bit to get some brisket going next! ... show more

  • Even less than I expected
I have been wanting to try smoking for some time, and after much research decided on the Southern Country smoker as a relatively inexpensive way of starting out. I saw a lot of favorable reviews on many different sites and this was the main factor in my buying decision. At a price of less than $100, I did not have expectations of getting more than the most basic smoker. However, I was still disappointed by this unit. (1) While unpacking the pieces I noticed the bottom section which houses the electric coil was slightly bent. I did not notice any damage to the shipping carton, so I surmise this might have happened prior to shipping. Being of light weight metal construction, it was not difficult to bend the affected area back into shape. (2) The next problem occurred with the upper portion of the smoker. The smoker is rolled metal secured by several rivets, except for the top, which uses a bolt to secure a grate support. At this point, I discovered that the rivets had not been placed correctly, and now I was having to deal with a gap of about 1/8 of an inch. Doesn't sound like much, but when you are trying to mate to pre-drilled holes and there are no adjustable points elsewhere on the tube, it gets tricky. Being well into the assembly process and not wanting to go through the hassle of trying to return the item, I finally was able to force the bolt into place. The tube was now slightly out of round, but not so much as to affect performance. Time to try it out. (3) I turned on the heating element, and after the suggested break in period I wanted to smoke a chicken. I set the dial to high in an effort to bring the temp up to about 250 degrees. After an hour the temperature gauge still read well below the "ideal temperature" reading on the included gauge. I might add this was in Texas, in August, in the direct sun, with an outside temp of 102 degrees. Not too impressive. I decided to go ahead and try half a chicken. It took about 3 hours and the chicken was good. I later bought a digital remote thermometer to use on my next attempt and found that the gauge was, in my mind, useless. If you are going to buy this unit, be prepared to purchase an additional thermometer and do not rely on the included one. (4) On my next attempt, I needed to use an extension cord. When I checked on my progress several hours later, I discovered that my extension cord was melted, along with the storage reel it was on, and had melted a glove I had lying on the reel. If you need an extension cord, use only one that matches the gauge of the cord on the unit. I have not tried using this unit again. I readily accept that this incident might have been my fault because I never considered that using a different gauge of cord would lead to this situation.   • Fair weather smoker
Wasn't too hard to assemble. Body was manufactured a little tweeked, the top dome has to be on just right or there is a gap. It does a pretty good job. I've smoked salmon, pork spare ribs and a tri tip (not at same time). The heat element isn't very powerful so if it's cold or windy it's hard to maintain 225 degrees. That said, when it's warm outside it works well. I like the fact that being electric you don't have to add fuel. It cleans up pretty easily too. ... show more
