Often times the packaging and well written instructions are a good indicator of the quality of a product and that definitely seems to be the case here. We're only two weeks removed from a polar vortex in the Southeast US, so it's going to be a few months before I can put this skimmer to use and I feel confident that it's going to perform very well. First of all, it's much larger than expected. It measures approximately 16" x 22" and much of the 16" width is occupied by the debris inlet. It's going to cover a wide swath. Despite its size, it's very lightweight, nothing like lifting a robotic cleaner. I like the idea of just leaving it inside the pool on windy days and activating it with the app. It's going to save me numerous trips to manually skim the surface. Nothing is more frustrating to a pool owner than walking away from a pristine pool, only to return to a pond an hour later after a thunderstorm. It's low maintenance. You won't have to buy filters. Simply empty and hose out the basket, and do a periodic cleaning of the guides, the twin propellers, and the impeller, followed by wiping the chemical deposits off the solar panel and the sensors. The battery pack life is rated at 37 hours and the charging time is 4 to 6 hours. Solar charging should greatly extend the operating time. There's even a compartment inside for chlorine tablets. I'm really looking forward to putting this skimmer to the test. It's going to save me a great deal of time, and keeping the water surface clean should also reduce the frequency of having to use my floor cleaner as well as having to run my pump fewer hours, thus saving on some energy costs. Having an enclosed pool deck I never thought I'd need a surface skimmer. But every time I'd go to a friend's house, who has an Aiper Surfer S1, the thought of ordering one kept growing and growing. Somehow, on Sunday afternoon, a new Surfer S2 landed on my doorstep! After unboxing I plugged it in and allowed it to charge for approximately 13 hours. Monday morning I dropped it in my pool, paired the iPhone app, it set off to do its job, and it has done an excellent job! Running 10 hours, on a sunny day in Central Florida, it only used 16% battery! Issue 1: Chlorine puck holder. I've tried two different types and neither fit. Both are too tall and the lid will not close. Issue 2: The bot is supposed to have obstacle avoidance, but it keeps trying to eat my water thermometer. I finally had to remove it from the pool. Issue 3: The bot keeps getting stuck at the inlet for my skimmer basket. Despite the three issues above I really like the Surfer S2. I'll continue to use the chlorinator at the pump, I'll find another option for water temp, and I'll be removing the bot when I'll be away from home for an extended period of time. I tossed two handfuls of leaves in the pool today, and it picked them up in no time. When I removed the bot from the pool this evening the top water is absolutely spotless! ... show more
