I purchased this unit to replace the red dot installed on my 1911 pistol, due to the red dot not showing up in bright sunlight outside. It did not fit my existing 1911 base pin, so had to install the furnished base. Installation is simple. The product is very well packaged, and all components needed are included, with the exception of your small screwdriver for adjustments. The slip-on rubber type cover is great, compared to the hard-to-get-off and plastic covers of others. I was concerned about the recoil, due to the instructions stating, yet advertised specifically for 1911, but so far it is Great. The dot size on large is acceptable, although could be a bit larger. The selection of dot sizes is good. This did solve my issue for outside, bright sunlight shooting at the range issues. I would recommend this unit to anyone in need, with a small budget as mine. UPDATE-This optic did not last. The first couple of trips to the range were good, after a small period of use, the green dot seemed to start moving around. As time passed, with additional attempts of use, the green dot is so far out of alignment that the adjustment screws will not compensate for correction. I removed the optic from my base and moved my base with a site tool to the left, reassembled the optic and was able to finally get the green dot on horizontal left to right plane. As time passed, that day the dot would shift, then return to setting. The height started to be appx. 2" off, with adjustment screw bottomed out and not compensating for height. I placed .040" of brass shims under the rear section of the optic in hope of gaining the ability to adjust the height. It is still 2"-4" too high on the target, and still increasing with no adjustment performed, with each shot fired. Our of disgust, I placed a dime under the rear section and retightened the screws. This massive angle change made no difference, as the green dot continues to move higher and higher with every shot. It is now 8" too high and moved over to the left 4". Nothing lose anywhere, just the junk optic moving internally. I would suggest against any purchase of this product for a 1911 pistol. Spend more and purchase a better product. ... show more

    • Very poor machineing.
Installing on a Charles Daly 1911. The C.D. claims to have 'Government sights'. The wedge did not fit at all. I had to perform considerable filing to get it to fit. Than came the greater frustration. The mounting screws countersink is far too deep. The chamfer of the mounting screw bottoms against the wedge before the sight base gets tight. I have filed the top of the wedge almost level with the slide but still loose. The machinist really messed this one up. These screws are so deeply countersunk I could probably replace them with panheads and they would still be flush. I tried using the longer set of screws that mount the sight to the sight base. Hoping that they would go all the way through and push against the slide to secure it. That did remove the wobble from the sight but made it point so high I doubt it can be brought back down to alignment. I am a novice gunsmith. Trained in the U.S. Army on small arms repair. This sight is frustrating me badly. Summary - do NOT buy this sight. ... show more

Does not work in sub 30 degree temps, dove tail was very hard to install. It is accurate though when you can get it to come one. Overall not bad for the price.

This is one of the best red dots you can buy for under 100$ I use it on my Colt 1911 .22 it is easy to set up and use and I enjoy how bright it is on a sunny day. After zeroing be sure to set the screws with locktite and it should stay zeroed.
