  • Not big enough for the BMW E39 control arm joint.
Probably works fine on smaller jobs. Another 1/4" would have been enough for me. At their widest, the jaws barely fit over the bolt end, but the angle is such that it only slips away when you tighten. The jaws open to 2.25" but I wouldn't try this on anything bigger than 2" for that reason. UPDATE. I decided to keep this, and cut off the end of the bolt instead. It was a horrible job - not enough access to use an angle grinder. However, once the bolt was short enough, BANG, success. The Harbor Freight version opens a bit wider, which is great, but I have broken three of those now. They aren't tough enough. ... show more

  • It'd very small
This thing is very small. It's not for trucks or even SUV's. Also it's made for pushing down so if you need to pry apart not the right tool. Ball joint separator is the wrong name for ot.

  • Works like a Champ!
I needed a well made and reliable tool to remove tie rods on my 91 Mercedes. I tried the OEM type pictured with this post and found it to be ill suited for the job. It didn't fit the ball joint correctly and slipped several times as I tried to tighten it down. I saw a video which featured an ABN Universal Ball Joint Separator type tool and decided to give it a try. I selected this tool for its value, appearance and functionality. Turns out it was just what I needed to get the job done. The fit was spot on, the operation was smooth and the ball joint was separated within 30 seconds of me applying pressure to it. No hammers required! This is a heavy duty well made tool which will be part of my tool box for years to come. Highly recommended for anyone needing a well made ball joint separator. ... show more

  • Works as intended
Great for popping out tie rod ends and lower ball joints on my ‘00 tundra

  • Built cheap
Broke within an hour from taking it out of the box. Thread stripped very easily during ball joint removal. Pin that holds the clamp together also broke while I was adjusting the fixed position from the first hole to the second hole. Great tool, poorly made.
