I am using these in combination with mosquito bits and insecticidal soap to get rid of fungus gnats in the soil of my indoor plants. The combination of these three products seems to be doing the trick. I'm not sure that the insecticidal soap is necessary, but it does get rid of the flying gnats instantly. I try not to spray it on the plants, though. The sticky traps are a nice size and easy to use. I found some gnats stuck to them within minutes of adding them to the pots. Very easy to peel off the protective paper. Easy to install in soil of plants. The stickiness lasts for weeks. The strength of the stickiness is great for catching flies, gnats and other flyers and crawlers that might be in the soil or on your plant. To keep the fungus gnats population down to a bare minimum to none at all these sticky traps are well worth the buy. They were even a cute design. First off I was very skeptical that this item would catch knats much less than anything else. When I water my plants I do see knats from time to time but they’re not swarming by any means. Anyway I thought I’d place an order and see how they worked. I ordered the bright yellow because I know bugs are attracted to bright colors. What I was really hoping to catch was mosquitos because as many times as they’ve taken chunks out of me, I should weigh close to nothing! I placed a couple in my plants but had a great idea to stick some in the corners of my windows. We have a boxer dog and no doggie door so we have to let her in/out all day and no matter how quick you are, mosquitos & flies always get into the house and this year they’ve been bad. These are not gooey like fly paper but stick like packing tape and there is no mess involved. You just peel the paper off and place where you want. The triangular part does not have sticky on it. I stuck them on the window frame in the windows that the flies gravitate to. OMGOSH, I couldn’t believe the number of flies that it attracted and were stuck to the paper. I hate to admit, it made my heart happy, like super happy! The ones I had placed in my plants had a couple of knats on them within a few days. Overall I’m very pleased with this product, works great, price is great, products does what it says, I would buy again and highly recommend to others. 2nd purchase because these sticky traps are GREAT in your windows! Good price and works, but sticks to hands and "plants" so be careful. The butterfly is hard to remove the protector strip but the flower is easier. I've used these before and forgot how irritating it can be trying to remove the backing. I will remember this and buy the window ones next time. So much easier to use. ... show more

I was desperately in need of something to take care of these darn fruit flies and gnats or my plants were going to have to go. I love my plants, but I abhor those obnoxious little flies! I figured I'd give these a try and they are freaking awesome! They work. The first day I was super disappointed to only see one fly caught. But the next day... wow! There were a bunch of little buggers on the yellow sticky! Yay! Far less tiny flies driving me crazy. And I love the accessories. The tiny shovel to make the perfect slot to plant the sticky stick, the cute silver holders to some outside of plants, little green stick holders to place some higher up, and ties to help too. And with the 100's that come in a pack, these should last through the season. I 100% recommend! Oh, and a full size fly even landed on one and got stuck. Note- don't swat at the flies with them... they will super stick to anything they touch. (I know that's probably a no brainer, but sometimes I'm the scarecrow.) ... show more

Yes they are sticky and that's what makes them work. It's relatively easy to get the protective paper off but you can easily get them stuck to your fingers or a leaf that you place it next to. It's not a big problem and it does the job very well.

I circled the pot at the outer edge with these things, sticky side facing the base of the plant and caught a lot of gnats. But you have to treat the larvae too. That's a different product. (If they stick too much to you lightly wet the area with water.)
