  • Works as advertised, be ready to jump though!
Style: 20 W bug zapper electric+ 20W bulb
This thing definitely does what it says it will. We had some food get "lost" in the kitchen which created a persistent fly problem. Set this thing up in the kitchen window and after a week there are no more visible flys. The unit makes absolutely no sound while running but as soon as anything flies into it.... just be ready for it. Makes a very loud SNAP sound, not unlike a black cat firecracker. You'll jump the first few times for sure. Flying insects are instantly killed though and land in a tray below the unit so it's easy to judge it's effectiveness. ... show more

  • Quiet and Effective
Style: 40W bug zapper
The lamps are bright and the bugs seem to like them. When I first set it up (indoors), several days passed with no bugs zapped. The thing is so quiet that I was concerned that it might not be working. (Perhaps the high-voltage was not present.) It zapped three bugs on the next day so my concerns were allayed. Like most similar products, there's a loud snapping noise when a bug meets its end. For me, it's a happy sound. ... show more

  • Working precisely as expected, no issues, really helping with the bug issues.
Style: 20 W bug zapper electric+ 20W bulb
Okay, my wife loves guinea pigs. Good Lord, they're the messiest little animals on the planet and are absolutely a ton of work. They're cute but WOW! Just plain messy. They eat more than any animal their size I've ever seen, tons of fresh veggies, lots of fresh hay and there, a massive amount of waste. The physics of guinea pigs is not quite understood, how three pounds of foot can generate four pounds of waste. LOL! Just kidding. Well, maybe not! With fresh veggies comes phorid flies, often referred to fruit flies, and they're excellent fliers, super difficult to catch. This trap is going to be precisely what we need to wipe out these little pests. To help with the task, I welded up a stand for the zapper that is mounted to the rear of the piggies cage safe and secure, definitely not going anywhere. To better the odds, I will be making the brackets to secure to 4 inch computer fans to the back of the zapper, as these will draw the flies and really knock em for a loop! Note to Manufacturer: Alter the injection mold for the insect catch tray, adding a small thumb/finger hold. It would so much faster and easier to remove the tray if there was small handle or tab to grab onto. Of course, time will tell just how well this works long term, but my hopes are high. To increase the zapper's effectiveness, I've added two 4 inch fans on the back, 12 volt, via an aluminum plate with appropriately sized holes. This creates a nice shroud effect and causes a vacuum within the zapper, drawing in the bugs as they fly by. So, far, working well. To sit within the bottom catch tray, I made a small aluminum pan with a thumb sized handle. This can easily slide in and out of the lower portion of the zapper, sits atop the bug tray and within the little pan, a slice of banana draws the phorid and fruit flys in. You can also place a small amount of apple cider vinegar which lasts longer than fruit slices and the tangy aroma brings the fruit flies straight in. ... show more

  • Works good, but very loud
Style: 20 W bug zapper electric+ 20W bulb
Shot's fired every time a fruit fly hits it. It will give you a heart attack if it has been a while since a fly landed in it. It is so powerful that, unfortunately, a lot of flies end up outside the tray. I've seen smaller files fly right through it without touching the zapper.....because of the spacing of the tubes. All in all, it does work. ... show more

  • This is the ultimate FLY TERMINATOR!
Style: 20 W bug zapper electric+ 20W bulb
Wow! You know, I really wanted to provide a video of how well this Aspectek 20W Bug Zapper works, but seconds after plugging it in -- and I do mean seconds -- it killed its first fly. Within a minute, two more. It happened so fast that I couldn't even put my iPhone into video mode to capture it. So allow me to go back in time for a moment... I have had a huge fly problem in my home for quite some time. The problem is people and pets coming in and out of the house. The flies just flock into my home and they are all over the kitchen. I bought one of those battery-operated fly swatters, but using those require a lot of patience. You have wait for your prey to land on something and then hope that you can actually swat the fly before it flies off. When I felt "enough was enough" and that the problem was getting out of control, I poured over Amazon reviews for days looking for the perfect electronic bug zapper. This one from Aspectek seemed to have consistently great reviews. Upon taking it out of its packaging I noticed that it was extremely lightweight. It's also well packaged in the box with a nice amount of bubble wrap covering the unit to avoid damage. Additionally, the plug and bug tray are secured with locking tie wraps. You should have no concerns about your unit arriving damaged. The Bug Zapper comes with a small chain that latches on to side hooks. That was a nice bonus. I actually opted to hang this on an abandoned plant hanger in my dining area. Once unpacked, you simply insert the fly tray into the bottom of the unit and turn it on. It's that simple to have it set up within minutes of unpacking. Upon turning on the power, two black bulbs instantly light. As I mentioned earlier, it took mere seconds for me to see positive results. Loud crackles told me that it had captured its first fly. Indeed, there was a fly hopping around in the tray. It had lost one of its wings during the zapping process. It was going nowhere. Two more flies were instantly killed within a minute later and their dead carcasses were deposited into the tray. All I had to do was remove the tray and deposit the bodies into the trash. Yes, I have noticed that some flies do get stuck in the mesh. However, the mesh is electrified and the flies eventually are zapped dead. Yes, this does make a rather loud crackling noise, but it's not to the point where it's really going to make anyone jump. Really, there is more satisfaction to the sound than negativity. I understand from some reviews that bulb life is not optimal. There are very good instructions included on what kind of replacement bulb to buy and how to replace it. I suggest keeping those instructions in a safe place. One tip I can provide: unless you have a huge problem in your home, don't keep this running for hours on end. You can keep it running for 30 minutes a day and get rid of your fly problem. Remember: the flies come to IT. For automated homes, I suggest buying a WEMO plug. I just tell Amazon Alexa to "turn on bug zapper" and the unit automatically turns on. I also turn it off with a similar command. WEMO plugs also work with Siri. You know why this is so great? You can be sitting in your easy chair, be bothered by a fly or similar pest, and simply command your bug zapper to turn on without having to leave your seat. It's so wonderful knowing that your investment has paid off mere minutes after unwrapping. For this thing to work so quickly and effectively gives me immense satisfaction. This bug zapper not only works, but it does so tremendously well. ... show more
