It's not solid wood. I think it's manufactured wood, but it's sturdy enough, with great functionality, and looks way better and more natural than the picture. Large, spacious, and easy for this energetic older lady to put together. The holes are perfectly aligned, but follow the directions CAREFULLY or you'll end up undoing and redoing some steps! I bought two of the rustic brown ones and had them both assembled within a couple hours. P.S. I forgot to add that it comes with a really nice screwdriver and extra screws, dowels, etc., in case you lose any. Very considerate, and a great value for the price. ... show more

Purchased for 6 year old twin grandsons. Assembly was easy with clear instructions. Very sturdy . Full of toys and they use the lid as a seat or to play games on. Very happy with purchase. May order for granddaughter if it ever goes on sale.

We couldn't get the locking inside hinges installed because there were no holes for them. That is okay in our case because we don't have any small children in the house. I got this chest for my daughter and her thousands of toys that I had no where to put. I love it. Took me about an hour to put together with a bit of help when attaching the top to the hinges but it was a fairly simple project. What I love the most is the feature it has to hold the top up on its own, that way my daughter’s little fingers are not hurt by a falling top. We are using this as a toy box and it’s very spacious to fit most of the kids toys. It was pretty easy to put together….just be sure to attach the safety hinges correctly. It’s beautiful and matches our distressed furniture very well.
