  • Great First Plane!
Color: P51 Fighter-blue
As a novice RC Pilot, I was pleased by the ease of use for this plane. I own a few others, and was grounded for "maintenance." I saw this plane go on sale for October's Prime Deals, and I had to grab it. UNBOXING: Everything was safely packaged and neatly arranged. The book (which I didn't read until my 3rd flight) was well-written, with only a few misspellings. It explained the flight modes and features well. The box was sturdy, and I return everything to the box for safe storage and transit after each flight. BUILD QUALITY: This plane is awesome, with some really thoughtful details. The colors and detail on the paint is really good. The silver gleams in the sun, and the yellow nose helps you keep track of the angle/direction while flying. The control surfaces are molded into the plane itself, so they won't fall off or break easily. The connection rods have a horseshoe built into them, allowing for permanent adjustment of the length using just a pair of pliers (or strong fingers, if you don't want to grab tools). The snap on/off propellor design really works great. My last plane broke the motor mount loose, because the prop hit things during "landings." (Ahem.) This design lets the prop pop off when it hits an obstruction, saving BOTH the prop and the more expensive parts of the plane (e.g. motor/airframe). The foam is very flexible (less fragile and less likely to break off), and the wings and control surfaces have stiffeners/spars inlaid in them for responsive flight. The built-in leveling/Xpilot features deserve their own section, but let's just say it's a dream to fly. A few nit-picky criticisms about the quality. There is a little excess glue on the wing fairings. But it's not that bad. The form vents leave little hexagonal constellations of bumps on the bottom of the wing. I'd cut these down for aerodynamics, but then it would show white dots through the paint. The landing gear is a little bouncy, making it pretty hard to take off and land safely, and the nose is a bit long and heavy, making it prone to nosedive over its own wheels. XPILOT/ELECTRONIC FEATURES: This is amazing! Having done some accidental "landings" because of my own error in the past, the Xpilot on "Beginner" settings is a life saver (and money saver, too)! I was able to hand the controls to first-timers and they had no problems handling the plane. Intermediate gives more response/control. You can use more aggressive controls and bank angles, but it helps you "keep the blue side up." Expert just turns off the assistance and let's you do whatever you want. Straight up until it stalls? Sure. Dive like you're trying to dig a new hole in the ground? Sure. Roll upside down and burn in? If that's your jam, nobody's stopping you. So I recommend giving yourself lots of altitude to recover with and practice switching back to Beginner in a panic (muscle memory is a thing). Another part of the computerized controls is the 1-key acrobatics. Push the left "shoulder" button on the remote, and it beeps for a few seconds, allowing you to roll left, roll right, or loop (eyeballs in) with one touch of the aileron/elevator controls. It makes the beginner mode fun and exciting, without risking a failure to recover after the maneuver. I've had spectators literally cheer from across the field because of the "tricks" the plane does all on its own. A surprising feature is the auto-take-off, which I have to say is pretty cool. I only used it once, but for true beginners, it would be nice to have the plane get itself up in the air like that before you start steering. You just turn on the throttle, and throw the plane. Then it levels itself and climbs up in a circle, so it stays close by but gains altitude. The low battery warning is a nice feature. Gives you just enough time to bring it in for a landing close by. The low signal warning is a bit annoying. It will go off randomly because of a weird angle of the plane or controller. But it's nice to know that most of the time your plane is responding to your commands. I've had no interruptions/unresponsiveness in signals. I turned off the controller while the engine was running, and it automatically shuts off the throttle after about 5 seconds, which is a great idea if you don't want your plane to just ride off into the sunset. DURABILITY: I'm about 5 hours of flight time and probably 15 crashes in. (Hey, don't judge; they weren't all mine!) The only thing that broke was the Propellor Saver connector. It was an easy, 1-minute, no-tools repair, and the part was included in the box. So it was painless to get back up in the air. Shockingly, the propellor hasn't broken yet. That's usually the first thing to go. There's one scar on the wing from impaling it on a tree branch. But the paint is surprisingly durable. The spongy foam construction holds up really well to abuse. The controller feels sturdy, and would probably survive a few drops. There's a place to connect a lanyard, so you don't have to worry about that. EXPERIENCE: I love this plane. It's not my first, fastest, or biggest. But it's becoming my favorite in many ways. Mostly, it's just fun. It helps that it's so easy to transport and easy to fly. I get about 15 minutes of flight per battery. Keeping the throttle below 50% obviously helps it last longer, but you need 70% or more to complete a loop. The 3 modes (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) allow you to enjoy a relaxing experience or take on as much of a challenge as you like. It's relatively fast in the air. And the acrobatics are great fun for the pilot in command and spectators. I've had 3 successful ground take-offs (starting on the ground and slowly increasing speed to take off). That's a real challenge (the gear is bouncy, the rudder is small, and at slow speeds it completely inert, the engine torque pulls the plane left, and the power of the prop and rolling resistance of the wheels make it really easy to nose-dive over your wheels before you ever leave the ground). I usually just hand throw it. Landings in soft grass are fine. I keep the gear on for this, and it cushions itself pretty well. No visible damage from grass landings. I've had 2 successful catch landings. IMPROVEMENTS: 1. Add a label to the 3-position switch on the remote (Beginner, Intermediate, Expert). It's hard to remember whether up or down is beginner, and it's annoying to have to look it up in the book. 2. The black "protector" on the battery cable is loose, useless, and bulky. Leave it off. I cut mine off. The battery compartment is already cramped, so having that in there taking up valuable space is a waste. 3. Increase the size of the rudder. The rudder barely moves, and has too little effect on the plane's steering. If it were a larger control surface, the plane would handle better. 4. Make the 1-button U-Turn feature work. Mine doesn't do anything. 5. Make the Propellor Saver a little stiffer/stronger. I've had the prop just fall off when I hit the throttle too hard. Also, I had to replace that part from the drive shaft already (2nd flight). 6. Include more than one replacement Propellor Saver connector. ... show more

  • Flies great, surprisingly well made
Color: P47 Fighter
This thing really does fly. Non steerable tailwheel means you have to take off straight but potentially an easy fix. In beginner mode it's very docile and easy, prop saver works like a charm. That being said, I flew mine once and it wound up in a tree. Without the prop saver I suspect I could've gotten it out, but alas. Some PVC pipe oughta get it out later. Alright, out of the tree update. The prop saver adapter on the motor shaft is crummy. Doesn't hold on, full throttle will throw a prop right off it. Crimping it a bit with needle nose pliers helped. I'll be ordering some replacements from a different cheap foamy brand and trying them. I believe the motor shaft is 3mm so I'll be starting there. ... show more

  • Easy First Plane
Color: P47 Fighter
Great first plane for a beginner like me. The foam is light but sturdy and the flight assistance is really helpful. Easy to assemble only took a couple minutes to put together. It has 3 different levels so I have been using as a beginner level with full assist. Just tossing it to get started is simple to get a hang of. The batteries last about 15min each and it comes with 2 batteries. That doesn't sound like much time but it is a long time and super fun during that period. It is rated for 655ft which I hadn't tried yet but I went about 300ft with no issues. I like how prop will come off i stead of breaking if you crash. I haven't broke it yet and hope I never do because it is so durable and fun to use. I can't wait to get better and try some of the higher difficulties with no assistance. ... show more

  • We were pleased with our purchase
Color: P47 Fighter
We are still new to this experience, but this is what we wanted . For first- light weight. It is important that the child uses it. For second- this plane is made quite realistically, with details that visually attract attention and contribute to longer play with it. We were also pleased with the use of it, without experience and skills, we understood what was what. We spent a long time selecting an airplane with remote control and we are glad that this time was justified with the choice of this model. Our first experience was good! ... show more

  • Great toy for my 10 years old
Color: P47 Fighter
I recently purchased this remote control airplane for my 10-year-old daughter, and it's her first experience with an RC plane. My daughter had no prior RC plane experience, and she's been doing remarkably well with this one. It's been quite a few years since I operated an RC plane, but getting the hang of it was relatively easy. While my daughter had a few slightly bumpy landings, the plane remained undamaged. It's been a great park flyer for us! ... show more

  • exceeded my expectations
Color: P47 Fighter
I recently purchased a Remote Control Airplane and I must say, it exceeded my expectations and offers a great flying experience, though it may have a few minor quirks that can be addressed with some DIY fixes. This plane is not only highly durable but also delivers an impressive flight performance. I think it's a good choice for beginners with user-friendly remote control and detailed user manual. The flight time on the included batteries is quite commendable as well, allowing for extended flying sessions. ... show more
