  • Very long bolts - seems to be very well made!
As others have mentioned, the rubber base is very tight to adjust, so a bit of warm soapy water or WD-40 helps dramatically. Also, throw the straps in the trash, they're garbage. The screws are long, but my rack is very tall and won't be a concern. I did end up with 16 extra nuts and a washer or two, after double checking every possible place I could've used them. Instructions are worthless, but it's not hard to figure out, just keep the two short bolts in the middle of the plate and the four longer bolts on the corners as shown. Use a proper 13mm socket to get the locknuts started, then a wrench to finish them off. The mounting bolts are about 3". I used a hacksaw to trim them down to 2". There's no reason for them ever to be that long from factory. Now, it takes just a few spins to lock the nuts into place. No need to stand there for an hour to screw or unscrew them. First drive went great! They were rock solid at highway speeds, with no loosing after an hour drive. ... show more

  • Solid!
These things are heavy and very well made. I was surprised how heavy the box was they came in. You know, sometimes it is surprising how cheaply things are packaged knocking around in a random box. Not these. They came very well packed in custom cut out foam, and generally alot of attention put to the detail of making sure to protect them well for shipment. They are solidly constructed, come with everything you need to secure them to your vehicle, and to secure your kayaks, and packaged very well. It should be a crime what others charge for kayak carriers. Some of the more popular outdoor stores charge $200-$300 for the same thing. These are a steal under $50. ... show more

  • Easy assembly
Assembly literally took me about 5 minutes per mount. You need the proper tools for this quick assembly though. I used a battery operated nut driver with a deep well socket to get the lock nut as low as I could. From that point, I used a ratcheting wrench to finish it completely down. So my suggestion would be to have these tools handy if possible. You could easily use a ratchet with a deep well socket if you don't own a battery operated nut driver. If you try to do everything with just a normal wrench, it will take some time. All the nuts are lock nuts and you can't simply turn them by hand. This is great for the product because you don't have to worry about the nuts backing off. These lock nuts are how it should be built. Once assembly is done, these are good and stable. There's no wobble or play in the fits of the product. They attach securely to the roof rails of the vehicle. This is a decent option to carry kayaks. I say decent because a kayak can be a pain to load onto the top of vehicles. Especially if you have a taller vehicle. That's no fault of the product, but something good to consider. After I tried it a few times, I decided that a double kayak trailer was better for my application. The trailer avoids me needing to completely unload all my tackle and gear. Both my kayaks are pedal drive fishing kayaks and weight over 100lbs empty. This product would work great for non pedal drive kayaks with a weight around 50 or 60 pounds. I'm not saying that this product couldn't handle more than 50 or 60 pounds. I'm saying that I personally wouldn't want to handle any more than that. I also don't like the weight of my kayaks on top of the roof rack. It pushes the limits on what the manufacturer recommends. So these are great depending on what you plan to do with them. ... show more

  • Great roof brackets!
These are hearty, strong, well made brackets! They are easy to install! Taller sides hold my Canoe on top great! These are a good deal!

  • Sturdy Heavy Duty
The quality of the base is good but the bolts are too long. Not easy to install, the rubber base is hard to adjust and takes a while to set it up. So I’m not going to be using it, maybe during the summer as it’s pain to take off. I’ve been using my truck bed and will continue unless I find some other way to easily mount these. ... show more

  • Hardware is galvanized
Deisgn is alright. Handles could be larger and have more grip. The hardware is galvanized steel. NOT stainless. Less than a week on the rack and it was leaking rust all over my suv. Had to pay about $30 for replacement actual 304 stainless at my hardware store. Not a great purchase in retrospect.
