  • Some assembly required
They say you get what you pay for. I figured I was getting a roof kit for casual use because this price point is a fraction of what you pay for the professional setups. The parts all seem robust and well built so the issue is less about whether or not this will hold up in comparison. The reason for the price is that the entire kit is pieces. You have to assembly the racks fully which is very different from the big names in this market. Those racks come pre-assembled and bolt on as accessories to a system. This is where this kit is interesting, because it gives you a lot of flexibility on how you mount them. You could conceivably modify these endlessly to work for many different situations. Set a couple hours aside, get some tools, and build this racks before installing them. They have held up well so far and will last as long as I keep them maintained. I would not recommend this kit for anyone who has trouble assembling IKEA furniture though. ... show more

  • Quality product
You have to assemble this product the same as everything else now days and to some extent that is good, because you get a feel for and get to examine every nut, bolt, and peice of hardware. This item came very well packed. Every item was either bagged or sleeved in bubble wrap. I couldnt find a scratch or blemish on any peice. The bolts, washers and nylocks were acceptable quality not the over seas junk that gets pushed on everything. The best part was assembling, as every peice lined up properly and went together like you would expect quality things should. It also came with all the straps, bunjies, and other stuff I dont know how to use yet so, in otherwords... you get a complete package. After ordering, assembling and then re-reading the ad, it is obvious to me the company or seller is trying hard to sell a fair priced quality item as the ad tells you all kinds of situations this rack doesnt work with instead of trying to convince you that it is a fits everything item. I recomend this product. Also just a PSA.... If you have a sun roof....check the height when it is up before you bolt it down. Mine cleared with about 3/4" but I can see in some situations where you might turn you hard top into an open top. ... show more

  • Complete roof rack system for a pair of kayaks
This Yima Accessories kayak roof rack is just what you need if you need to strap a pair of kayaks or paddle boards on the roof rack of your car. The racks themselves go on on easy and are just the right shape to receive your boat. The ratchet straps are a bit much. Tried using them instead of a standard tie down strap you simply pull on, thinking they would hold things better but they did not. That isn't important since then Yima Accessories kit also includes tie-downs for the bow and aft of your craft. If you use all of the resources that come with this kit you will surely secure your vessel effectively to the roof and not worry about it going anywhere while you drive. ... show more

  • Really great deal on these racks!
I've had a number of kayak racks in the past, and this package is really a great deal! Two pairs that come with everything you might need. Easy enough to assemble, definitely sturdy and reliable, and very strong straps to secure the kayaks to them. I'm definitely really impressed with the quality and accessories of this package, and especially to get 2 pairs for only $80! I don't know how you could go wrong! Definitely worth the money, and I expect these to last years. I definitely do recommend these racks! Very nice! ... show more

  • Awesome
Needed a kayak rack that mounted to the type of roof rack bar that is not round. Basically if you took a round bar and flattened it a bit. This one works well for that type of bar. It does come in many pieces and requires assembly. It was only slightly painful to do so, but just be ready for that. As far as the quality goes, it's pretty good. The brackets are stable and feel relatively solid even with the kayak on them. Both the straps and the lines for the front and back are good quality and do a nice job of securing the kayak so you can feel confident even at higher freeway speeds. Overall I'm happy with these and can recommend them. ... show more

  • Complete kit, works well
Overall, I am very pleased with this kit. It has allowed us to carry our two 10' sit-on-top kayaks securely at highway speeds. I especially like that the kit not only includes the racks, but straps and ropes. Assembly was straight forward. The instructions are decent enough, thought they could use a bit more detail about washer placement. It did take me a few minutes to figure out the routing of the straps, though once I figured it out, it made sense. A little detail on the ropes and the other component would have been nice, but a little internet searching allowed me to figure out that the ropes are to secure the bow and stern, and the other component can be used under the hood and trunk if no other tie-down places are available on the front and rear of the vehicle. I particularly like the ratchets. They are large enough to provide good strength, without being overly large. I also like that they are continuous strap, rather than having S hooks. The kit uses 1/2” SAE locking nuts and there are enough nuts to use if there is not enough to clearance for the knobs. Even if you have to use nuts rather than the knobs, there are extra nuts and washers in case you lose one. I also appreciated that the design is such that the same nuts that are used to assemble the racks are the nuts that go in the knobs. The kit also includes a wrench to tighten the nuts. I had a few relatively minor complaints: There were paint flaws on a couple of the plates that left bare metal exposed. I had to paint these before assembly. There is no padding on the surface of the metal clamping plates that go on top of, and below, the cross bars. I am concerned that this will eventually cause wear / scuffing on the plates and the cross bars. One our compact SUV, here is not a lot of room between the roof and the cross bars. There is enough to allow use of the knobs, but tightening them is awkward. Not a deal breaker, just a bit annoying. ... show more
