    • Great for an off label use

I have a power wheelchair and cannot walk at all. It can be equipped with foam filled tires (bumpy ride) or pneumatic tires (smooth ride)). I prefer the pneumatic tires but this comes with the risk of a flat tire. I can install/repair the tires but the wheels have to be off the ground. Until now this meant calling my adult daughter who would come over and I would transfer to another chair and we would lift one side of the wheelchair and put something under it, then I would make the repair and we would get it back to the ground. My mobility has taken some recent hits, six months ago I could walk some and I could get back into the chair should I fall. Now I can't walk at all nor can I get back into the chair unaided. My wife passed this fall so I live alone, meaning that I am really dependent on a functioning wheelchair. If only I had a flat jack that would fit under the chair.... Enter this jack. Oddly enough I had a flat the same day the jack arrived, a piece of wood had punctured the tire and inner tube. I unpacked the jack and tried it out. It was a very close fit under the chair but a bit of wiggling got it under there. The chair weighs 250 pounds so the jack is way overkill but I like a big safety margin. The jack was considerably harder to turn than expected but it probably needs some greasing which I plan to do. I think with a motorcycle you would need some extra leverage to turn the handle. The jack appears to be well built and is pretty heavy. It was very stable with the wheelchair and I got the repair done quickly. For me this is a godsend. I can handle these repairs by myself now and I keep spare tires and wheels on hand along with a small battery powered air compressor. To anyone else considering this application GET ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS OF THE CLEARANCES ON YOUR CHAIR. Except for removing the rubber mat on the top of the jack you cannot make it any shorter. But it handles the load easily and safely. I would recommend this jack for this application. ... show more

A common complaint about jacks like this is the fact the jack screw quickly wears out if they are not lubricated before and/or after every use. So, I have taken those negative and enlightening reviews to heart and religiously and fanatically apply Valvoline grease on the jack screw before every use. This particular jack comes with a socket and ratchet wrench and spans the frame of my '09 Harley Ultra with room to spare. My bike weighs at least 950 lbs. with full gas tank and bags full of stuff. I do not know how legit the 1400 lb. rating is but I fell for it. So far jack works great but time will tell. As many others have said about this and similar jacks, do not use a pneumatic wrench to speed up the process. You will only achieve jack failure sooner if you do that. It only takes a minute or so to manually crank on the provided socket and wrench to raise your bike. I will still use my hydraulic bike lift when needed but I am seeing that this simple screw jack can handle about 99% of my maintenance jobs. ... show more

    • Broke on second use of the jack. Unable to find contact seller link.
I bought the stainless version expecting an even tougher product for the long run. First time I used the jack replacing engine mounts last spring it worked great and I was excited. Now the second time was last night and the jack went up maybe 3" and locked up with the ratchet. I had to use a 1/2 breaker bar to force the screw back down to get the bike off the jack. Just before it reached the floor the forcing screw snapped. I have been a professional diesel tech for 23 years in a dealership and know how to use and care for tools properly and how they can be abused. This tool was NOT ABUSED at all until I was forced to use a breaker bar just to lower the jack after it hung which should be the easiest part. I had even well greased the forcing screw and thrust bearing as soon as I opened the box because I know these parts are under stress and I wanted it to last. I hope that the seller will replay and stand behind this product to refund the cost ASAP. Very disappointed in the product and all the good reviews read. ... show more
