First impression out of the box: This seemed sturdy and overall stronger than the one I was replacing. It does not telescope, rather, it is just long handled. Telescoping litter scoops don't make a lot of sense to me. Either you use a short handle or a long one - who needs a variety of lengths to scoop poop? Sorry, I digress. Anyway, the shaft came out of the box in 2 pieces and it simply screws together. There's a short rubber/foam grip about midway down the shaft I found that the shaft did not screw together tightly at first, constantly getting loose every time I used it. I got two of those silicone grippers you use to open stubborn jar lids and held the upper and lower part of the shaft and gave it a good tightening. It worked well. That's the good stuff... Now, the bad. The very first scoop I took out of my litter box, I heard what sounded like a soft *crack* come from the scooper. I pulled it out and examined it and it. It looks like there's a stress crack where the shaft meets the scooping end. I wiggled it and it didn't seem broken, but still looks like it has a faint crack in it. I have used it several times now and it has seemed fine, but I'm still keeping an eye on that. I gave this three stars because, hey, it's a poop scoop, and the thing with the possible crack doesn't impress me. ***Update*** So, I have 3 cats and 3 litter boxes and that's a lot.of poop and pee to scoop. So far this scooper has held up with no issues at all. I suspect that it was a coating on the scooper that cracked and not the scooper itself. It's sturdy, of good length, and a real back saver. Changing this rating to 4 stars because I am finding that the connecting pieces on the long handle come loose and it is slightly annoying to have to keep tightening it. Otherwise, I would recommend this for any single or multiple cat household. **Update 2** So, I've had this thing for over two years now. It's sturdy, durable, and I can't love it enough. I think the crack was in the outer finish and now the unit itself. And, let's be honest here, do you really care how “pretty” your litter scooper is? 😉 **Update 3** I still have this scooper, and with three cats, Three litter boxes in the upstairs living area and two in the basement, you can imagine how much scooping I do. This has held up admirably and I can't say enough good things about it. I've ordered a second one so I don't have to carry this one all through the house collecting up cat waste. The fact that I'm buying a second one after three years use of the original (and keep in mind, it's not to REPLACE the original, just for convenience for me) should tell you how well this has held up. I just received a few days ago so have only used this once so far, so can't speak to the long-term durability as of yet. The handles screwed together easily and seem solid, and the length was perfect to keep me from having to bend way down to scoop our cats' litter boxes, and my hubby won't have to do all the scooping anymore. The scoop itself worked very well, but I wonder about the durability of that since it seems slightly thin. It may be plastic vs metal but am not sure. I haven't had to wash it yet. So far, very happy with this purchase and hoping it will stand the test of time. ... show more

I use this to clean up in my chicken coop. I use sand on the floor and this scoop is strong and sturdy enough to do the job. The long handle helps to save my back so that I don't have to bend over as far. Well worth the money.

This metal litter scooper is very sturdy and sifts waste through my chicken coop coffee grounds easily. The long handle allows me to reach under the roosting bars. so awesome! Just what I needed. The item is not heavy; I scoop using only one hand. The only problem with it is the handle loosens every so often, so I have to tighten it before it comes apart. That has happened to me once, so I tighten it as soon as I feel it starting to jiggle to avoid that. Not really a problem for me. I use it ALOT in my chicken coop, so I will cut it a break. Chicken poop can be heavy when not cleaned out daily. Chickens can poop an ungodly amount every day, so it’s working over time with heavy duty poop . All in all, it’s a durable, lightweight, easy to handle product. I give it a thumbs up! ... show more

I use all purpose sand in my chicken coop run and this litter scooper to tidy it up on a daily basis. It's extremely durable and easy to hold, making this chore less miserable to do.

I have bought 2 of these and both broke in the same place where the scooper connects to the handle. The first one broke after I accidentally dropped it and while I didn't think it should have been enough to break it I did feel like it was my fault, and since it worked very well for scooping up chicken poop in my coop, I bought another. The second one lasted a little longer but broke in the same place without any drop or anything to explain the break. Combined the time between buying the first one and the second one breaking was about 6 months which is pretty bad, so while it works extremely well when it is not broken it's just too fragile to get another, so I've since bought a different one to try. I don't know if scraping it against the ground over and over wore down the joint or what. I will say for other uses like scooping kitty litter it may work fine, but for regular use scooping up chicken poop on the ground it won't hold up. ... show more
