Definitely does what I need it to do .... keep medications out of the hands of youngsters. But .... not the sturdiest safe out there and you need to be careful when closing that the lid doesn't close to hard. It has the ability to drop the entire battery case out which means that it then requires the key to re-open it. The keypad stopped working one day. I thought that two months was a short battery life, but no problem, I had two keys so I figured I'd just change them. However, simultaneously the lock/key/handle mechanism jammed and the keys didn't work. Three different relatively intelligent adults made multiple attempts over several days without success, in the end we had to break into this by force and now it's useless. The one pro is I will say it was pretty difficult to break into by force, so two stars instead of one. ... show more

What a piece of GARBAGE!! The safe has instructions appropriate for a 2 year old, that's how simple it should be. The key is VERY difficult to get in the lock and to unlock. I put the batteries in, put in an entry code, close the door and VOILA...THE SAFE DOES NOT OPEN. I use the crummy key and the alarm goes off. There's a way to deactivate the alarm.. That DOES NOT WORK. There is supposed to be a reset button on the inside of the safe, so you can reset the entry code. That reset button is NOWHERE to be found. I call Yale customer support, only to be told that this safe is NOT sold in the US, only in the UK???? WHAT??? I live in NYC and ordered it from amazon. Needless to say it is packed up and ready to be shipped back. I would give this no stars, only minuses!! ... show more

Even though I followed the product instructions to a T, creating a numerical code does not work. Also, even though the alarm has been disarmed, it still goes off. All in all pretty disappointed. I don’t want to hassle with a return, so we will just use the keys manually to open.
