  • reasonable expectations were surpassed!
Color: 2MP 8CH + 8 Cameras + 1TB
After having worked a few jobs where I worked with security systems I knew what to expect with a cheap system. what I expected was: grainy image, failing camera: bulky and hot running equipment. night vision of a blind man. what I received was: super clear- read licenses plates from the passing cars clear, cameras that all worked out of the box, equipment that doesn't get hotter than a playstation 2, and reasonable night vision that lets me see clearly about 100 feet. for the price I was expecting a product that would let me try the concept of video monitoring around the outside of my home. Then, if it was something our family felt has promise we'd replace the system a part at a time with higher end gear. This gear is way better than we expected and better than I could have hoped for. IT by far surpasses all of the professional systems I've ever worked with. A wonderful side note is that if there is a blind spot- these are my camera and I can adjust them. when they are work cams I just dealt with the blind spot. there is a nice feeling looking at a tv full of the area around your home and knowing it's safe. My 8 year old is in love with the ease of use of the software- she's able to switch cameras and (digitally) zoom in on the cats (click and drag a box, click inside the box). I am able to watch for ups, fedex without leaving my chair. I have used the app with it some on my tablet and it works great too- allowing standard resolution or high and viewing of all the cameras or just one at a time. It looks like the app supports multiple systems too- which will be nice because we have decided to buy a second 8 camera system and install more looking our at out neighborhood so we can keep a bit of an eye on out entire surroundings. The ease of install was great too- the only thing that could be better there is having some zipties on hand and some cable wall clasps. I had both of those things and that made it simple for me. Installing the cameras is 3 holes with a drill and 3 screws to hold them in place. I took a scrap of paper- marked the 3 holes on the paper and then took the paper up the ladder with me. I taped it on the siding- drilled my holes and that made screwing the camera in a breeze. there are only 2 lines that need connected- a power cord and a camera cord. If you can plug in a cell phone to charge- you can hook up the cameras to the cord. there is no screwing it up. I did have a bit of an issue with the quality of one of the cameras- so I contacted customer service. This was the second time I contacted customer service actually- the first time was to obtain a copy of the manual for planning purposes before my system arrived- which they were quick and awesome about btw. They were also quick and awesome trouble shooting the poor cam quality- going waaaay above and beyond what I would expect for the cost of the system. bottom line- if you're thinking about buying your first system- you can not go wrong with this one. If you have a high end system- then make sure this isn't a downgrade- or go into it with reasonable expectations. (i plan to add photos and maybe a video on a day where it's not raining- the rain just gives a gloomy look) ... show more

  • Great Value with a learning curve.

I would say that this camera set up is excellent for getting started. Another words you don’t own a surveillance system, and don’t have a bunch of money to throw down on a really nice one. There is a lot of value here. It comes with the full 8 cams rather than 4, the NVR has an installed HDD already, night and day vision are both good(clear for the most part, you will have to mess around with the settings on the cameras and your monitor for the first couple of days and nights to find what’s going to work for you. Could be a more clear image, but not bad either), it’s not wireless but in my case I wanted a wired system (plus the provided cables are very long, I think I’ll be able to route a camera all the way to my front lawn). They set up isn’t hard, I will say that if you do not have a basic handyman ability, it will be difficult to figure out what you need to do, you may also need a basic technology understanding as well. For me, I’m above intermediate at both. The initial set up is fairly straightforward but it reminded me of messing around with The Windows 95 comand prompts and the English translation on some parts had me laughing. I still don’t have all the cams set up after the first three days, and the four I do have I’m still fine tuning and then need to officially route cables. This is where you will struggle if you don’t know about wire management. First off I recommend that you take your time and set one camera up at a time, and perhaps not even screw it into the location, use tape or something and see how it looks and check all the angles. If you don’t like it you can move it. That’s why I’m only on 4. Then you will have to figure out how to get the wires there and how to hide them properly. For me so far, this has involved running the wires straight up to my ceiling and then through it untill it come to the exterior wall where I then drilled a 1/2 inch hole to run the wiring for a couple of cams out of. I’m going to probably use pvc to run the cable into, but that will be after I get the final locations figured out. It’s a process to get this system set up for your individual needs, but worth it and you get a lot for the price. My complaints are that I was supposed to get a sticker set that says you have cams, that’s not the biggest deal in the world because I have similar things, but I was supposed to get some. The big one though is that I’m still having problems setting up the app on my phone to view the cams from there. It keeps telling me that my email is not valid although it is, and yes I double triple and quadruple checked my spelling. So that’s annoying, but great but either way. Lastly I will say if you read this and you are confused by the set up process I described, then consider finding someone to help you before you buy, or spend a little more for a wireless system or drop cams. Like I said there was a reason I wanted wires. ... show more
