I've had this pillow for a few months now, and I think it's great. I was a bit skeptical about this pillow, since most other memory foam pillows are just large flops for me. But this one really grew on me, and I can't sleep on traditional pillows anymore. When I first got the pillow, I was amazed at how it expanded from a rolled form, to a normal large pillow. The smell is relatively strong when you receive the product, which is why I let it air out for about 5 days. I would turn the pillow once a day to let the sides evenly air out. The smell even after 5 days was pretty noticeable, but keep in mind, I never threw it into a dryer or anything. The smell definitely goes away with time, so don't mind it too much. When I did start sleeping on this pillow, it did feel pretty resistant. If I had to compare it to some form of cushion, it is extremely similar to seats in a car. Which is why I had my initial regrets on this product. But don't let that scare you, since you do have to break in this pillow for about 1-3 weeks time. The cushion of this pillow after the breaking in period is just AMAZING. I'll try to explain how the cushioning of this pillow feels in comparison to normal pillows you get at general stores. When you get a normal pillow, it starts off as extremely fluffy for 1-2 weeks. But after that period of extremely fluffiness, you get a period of a "JUST RIGHT" sort of cushion and resistance. Then after that "JUST RIGHT" feeling that lasts for about 3-4 weeks, it is just flat from there on out. With this memory foam pillow, it is now always at a "JUST RIGHT" feeling for me. And it has been that way for months now, never feeling like it's going flat. So after you get past the initial smell and uncomfortable resistance, the pillow should feel pretty great. I'm a side sleeper, however I could easily relax on this pillow when on my back. I've actually found myself getting pretty sleepy with this pillow, just by resting on it to surf on my phone. I haven't experienced any problems of feeling too hot or cold when on this pillow, if anyone was wondering. I feel like it is easy to mold the pillow to how you want, if it somehow gets displaced. What I usually do from time to time is grab the pillow from both ends (left/right), and begin push + pulling. This usually gets the foam centered in the middle, and it naturally molds to where I rest my head. The cover that holds all the foam is actually extremely comfortable. It is very easy for me to use this pillow with or without an additional cover, and I might actually prefer it without an additional pillow cover. But I believe it is preference, I think the pillow would get dirty if you choose to sleep without an additional cover. I think if you're curious about getting a memory foam pillow, definitely try this one. I don't think it should go flat on you in any time. If you're wondering what size you should get, I would recommend going for the Queen size, since that is the one I'm speaking on behalf of. I've actually bought this pillow for 2 relatives, since I thought this pillow was pretty game changing to sleeping. But I did warn them that they did have to break the pillow in! TL;DR - Smell may be strong for others, but does go away with time - Initially has a relatively uncomfortable resistance at the start, takes 1-3 weeks to break in + Has a very pleasant cushioning after breaking in + Does not feel like it goes flat, even after a few months + Feels neutral in terms of temperature, doesn't make you feel hot or cold + Easy to mold + Cover is comfortable + Go for the Queen size ... show more

I've been using it for a week and it's really been a good support for my neck. I haven't had to fluff it either because it keeps it's shape really nice. I didn't even need to take any excess foam out. I read some complaints about the strong smell when you first open it, but mine only had a light smell, it didn't bother me at all. It only took about 30-40 mins for it fluff up completely. I even used it on the same night, no problems. The only thing I had to get used to was how heavy it is, I've never used such a heavy pillow before, but then again this is my first memory foam pillow. It's not really an issue either. When I read the reviews of this item in the NYT Wirecutter report I was concerned about the reports of chemical smells. I can report that I found absolutely no chemical smell and once the pillow took it's shape after shipping it was ready for a good night's sleep. I had been having shoulder pain upon awakening from my old pillow. I am amazed to report that this pillow provides sufficient support while not being too stiff that I have had less shoulder/back pain and decent sleep. While the pillow is firm I do not find it uncomfortable for sleeping. I did not remove any of the stuffing because I wanted to see how the fill settled. I have kept all the stuffing in place because I like a more elevated sleep position. This is a really good pillow without a huge price tag and would recommend it to anyone who sleeps on their side. It is also advertised for back sleepers but because I do not sleep on my back I cannot comment on that position. ... show more

    • A Stomach Sleeper Finally Finds "The One"....

***UPDATED - 4 years in*** Holy freakin' crap. I finally, FINALLY found "the" pillow. I feel like it was easier to find a person I want to spend the rest of my life with (a.k.a. my wife) than it was to find the right pillow for me. Seriously, why isn't there a site where I can date various pillows before committing, sort of a match.com but for pillows? I've tried upwards of 25 pillows over the last year and a half, trying to find "the one". Everything from $100 memory foam to down,k to down alternative to, to whatever the regular fluffy crap you find in pillows is, to....yadda yadda yadda. This was finally the pillow that did it for me. I'm a stomach sleeper, and I bought the slim version of this pillow in a king size. The pros: -The pillow had a light smell out of the box, but that was gone as soon as I ran it through the recommended fluff in the drier. No issues after that. -The pillow sleeps very cool. I'm a hot sleeper and a pillow that sleeps even warm is not an option for me. No problems at all with this one. -The shredded memory foam is what I think was the missing piece for my pillow hunt all along. Solid memory foam is just too firm for me, no matter which iteration of it I've tried. I tried numerous, and none worked. The shredded has several advantages - it just seems fluffier to me, you can easily "puff" it back up with a few pats at night, and it's movable (see next "pro"). I'd say the shredded foam is the perfect balance between the support that memory foam provides and the "fluff" factor of a more normal pillow. -The pillow seems to come a bit underfilled, which I suspect is the only difference between a slim and a nonslim. Don't care, just saying. In fact, they could offer another version with even more foam removed and I bet there'd be a group of people it would be perfect for. The benefit to this, for us stomach sleepers that have a huge problem finding a slim pillow, is that the shredded foam can be adjusted at night. I manipulate my pillow so it's flat in just the right spots, and I can sleep on this thing perfectly. It's slim enough out the gate that there's almost no effort involved in doing this, and it maintains that shape for the next nights (it only really loses it when I bunch it up to read in bed at night sometimes). -The price point - I would pay another $50 for this pillow and still feel that I was getting excellent value for my money. When it comes to a pillow, I have no issue spending $100 for one if needed, because it's critical to getting good sleep for me, and this one is a steal at this price point. Cons: -For me, I really don't have any. I will point out that pillows are similar to coffee or food for people - individuals just don't have the same preferences. What works for one might not for another. I can certainly see where some people would be put off by the shredded foam - I find it to be unnoticeable to me, but some folks may not prefer it, at least not enough to go the shredded route Same goes for thickness - this won't do the trick for you if you don't want a slim pillow. If you're looking for a good pillow, I highly recommend this one, especially if you're a stomach sleeper that's suffered years of agony like me. I have slept better with this pillow than I have with any other. Ever. I was NOT given any special discounts or promotions for this pillow - I paid full price. Just want to make that clear so it's known my feedback is 100% unbiased. ****4 year update**** The original pillow I purchased is still serving me as good as it was from day 1. Because these are fully washable, I blast it on hot every month or two and it comes out like new, no deterioration over the last 4 years. I even compared to a new one I've had on reserve and you really can't tell the difference outside of expected wear on the case. Both my wife and I exclusively use this pillow, and I've since had several family members purchase it as well, all with the same happy results for every person so far.
