  • Best metal detector I have ever owned.
I reluctantly invested in the XP Deus after sustaining an arm and back injury that would not allow me to carry and use my older, heavier Garrett detector. I had heard a lot of great things about the Deus, but it was hard for me to stomach the price. I have owned this detector for almost a year now and it is already paid for. The finds I have made so far, both relics, coins and gold, were on areas I had already been over with my other detector. Even in new, highly contaminated areas, I was able to fine tune the easy to use control panel to totally filter out the crap iron and soda cans, which I was not able to do before. One of the things I was concerned about when I first purchased the Deus was that it was going to become obsolete in a couple years. but since I have owned it, XP has already come out with three firmware updates that were extremely easy to install from my PC via USB cable. Each update brought my machine above and beyond the previous update. I love that the Deus is wireless, and connects easily between the coil, control panel and lightweight headset effortlessly, even in a dense urban area with beaucoup electronics and high-voltage overhead lines, and I never lose the connection. I could probably ramble on more about the joys of using the XP Deus, but other reviewers have done a great job in their details. I am just another satisfied Deus owner. This is the best detector I have ever owned and I strongly feel it is worth every penny. Probably not suited for a beginner detectorist, but for someone like me with years in the field, it is a godsend. ... show more

  • good to see a company truly innovating
it's obvious that xp, when planning the deus, took a deliberate step back to consider what many, if not most, detectorists wanted or needed in a field metal detector. light weight. wireless--no external cables or connectors linking components (coil-to-control box) to snag or corrode--not even a headphone cable unless you exercise the option. ability to program and control from the headphones alone or the control box or both. multi-frequency from 4-18khz covers most of the range needed. well thought out programs so even a beginner (that's me) can choose one and go. but not forgetting the most advanced of program modification options for the pro. computer connection to allow for firmware updates and new features. bleeding edge battery technology and component materials--lithium-ion and carbon fiber). granted, the price is high, but it's easy to see the value for the money once you get it in your hands and start using it. ... show more

  • XP DEUS COIL DEAD
Have owned for less than a year with light use. Works well when coil is working but have had intermittent coil problems and now complete coil failure. In the past have charged coil and controller up and when I get to field, coil is sometimes dead. No light on at all. Had to plug back in to charger briefly to get it to boot. Now will not boot at all - light is out completely whether on charge or not. No blinking light. No charging light. Nothing. Controller cannot find coil at all. An expensive machine but now useless with a bum coil. ... show more

This Metal Detector is the future of the hobby, providing multi-frequencies, the fastest recovery time and the tools to fine tune the machine to the current conditions on the fly. The wireless design makes it very convenient to swap coils and so much easier to operate in and around the bushes and trees, and the super lightweight materials allow you to swing it for extended periods without the arm fatigue associated with other detectors. ... show more

  • GREAT machine, but don't feel bad if you can't afford it. There are great machines as low as $290.
Let me start by saying, yes it does cost a fortune. Now let me answer what's on your mind right this very second. "Do I really need to spend this kind of money to get a great detector?". To answer your question in one word, no. Look, this hobby is a great hobby, It's a great, fun, outdoor hobby that honestly I've enjoyed since I was 8 years old. I even know a guy who dug a $35,000 dime. Yes that was 5 digits. Another guy in Mass. dug a very very rare knights ring that is valued around $85,000. It DOES happen. Just not often. So skip ahead 40 years and WHAM!! I buy one of the most expensive machines out there. Lets put it this way: You can buy a Garrett AT PRO for $594 and you'll get a top performing, waterproof, amazing machine that you will never have to replace as long as you live. Even the Garrett ACE 350, or Fisher CZ3D, Teknetics with DD coils are great performers. Whites M6 is tops as well, Tesoros's are good but older technology. Minelabs just about any level are great performers. I probably would avoid the lower end Bounty Hunters unless your looking at the higher end units like the Platinum which is a very good unit. However when you get an XP you get just about every feature you could ever want, AND ease of use for a novice as well, if you happen to have never detected before. Its a blast to make your own programs and the instruction book makes it easy even for a computer idiot like me. Just keep in mind, if it's ever stolen, or damaged beyond repair it's a very expensive toy to replace. I do find some cool things with it, but then again so does my girlfriend with her $160 Bounty Hunter. Okay, so the XP is more sensitive and you get far fewer false signals, but you will STILL DIG SODA TABS and bottle caps and tin cans but once you learn this until well it will be less frequent. You can even take a XP Deus boot camp course for a full day given in different areas of the US. So XP support is great. I live in New England and believe it or not I bought mine from a guy ED at Treasure Mountain Detectors in TENN of all places. He had the best price, quick free shipping, and great great support. I never feel like Im bothering him and he has taken 2 of my trades in the past couple of years and always does well by me. Im not selling his place but telling you that in all of New England this place in the south beats them all for price and service. Okay, enough of that. YES< it does still give you false signals even if you do know how to hear and read the tones. I'm sure with more time I will be even more impressed with it and the more I'll learn to love it even more and more. I do love it and it does work very nicely, just keep in mind it won't reach in and grab the item for you and tell you hey, there's a dime dig it. Nothing is simply that advanced, it's still a metal detector and it won't snap a picture of your item and do the digging for you. I just want you to know that as cool as it is and as much fun as you will have with it, you do not need to spend this kind of money to get a good machine that tells you a lot when you get a signal. The XP however has really fast response so your less likely to skip by a signal because your machine spent too much time thinking about whether or not it can read the signal before you swing past it. Thats one of its best features. If you must have the newest, coolest, and the most impressive machine out there , then this is it for sure. Buy it if you can afford to, Just don't be unhappy with what you have because it's more about the operator who knows his or her machine in this hobby then it is about most modern machines.many machines in the $300-600 range and over will probably make you pretty happy. Amazon has a great selection as well so you won't go wrong. Happy Hunting!!! May 2015. The machine is great. I should also mention that it is VERY light weight as mentioned in comments below. It is also most importantly wireless. So your headphones don't have wires attached to the machine which make using a normal wired unit a big pain in the tooth. Also, this folds up so it's easy and inconspicuous to carry into areas you may want people to know your detecting. These features are wonderful. Light weight is really important and a requirement for me. Like I said in my earlier post above, if you can afford it buy it, if not a Garrett AT Pro is a great machine for under $600. Also as mentioned earlier, my girlfriend has the Garrett ACE 350 now. Pretty much the only real difference between that and the AT Pro is that the AT Pro can literally be dunked under water, it is completely waterproof including the box. On a little Vermont spot we discovered she found civil war military buttons, musket balls, 2 1700's Mass. Coppers. I found about the same amount of cool stuff as her machine and even her lack of experience she still found a lot of great things with her $290 detector. ONE BIG REMINDER. PLEASE whatever you do ALWAYS cover your wholes and make it look as good as you started. NOT doing this is the worst thing you can do as it will eventually BAN detectors from places even towns as it has in many circumstances. Cover your wholes and we can all enjoy this great hobby for a long time. Leave your area better then you found it. Happy digging. ... show more
