    • I did 10 windows in my house, and I am happy with the outcome

I have ten windows, and one of my neighbors is a bit nutty, so the privacy was the first concern. We also have a small 1935 house that heats up like crazy when it's sunny, so heat reduction was also a concern. When I started, I bought the gold silver, the blue silver, and the silver. The silver worked out best. I ended up ripping out the blue and gold. The gold was the worst for us. Gold translated into looking like a sepia tone fire watch. The sunlight had the same quality as the smoggy forest fire when smoke was everywhere. We replaced that with silver. The blue was better, but darker, and not great for the kitchen. it made the food blue tinted. So we ripped that out in favor of silver. The silver was only mildly visible, like a very lightly tinted set of sunglasses, and didn't do anything weird. It was the best option. Some things I learned. The color is only visible from the inside. It effects the color of the light coming in. The adhesive side is not remotely adhesive to the touch. I pealed the backing off the first one and thought I had done it wrong, but trust the process. It will work. Order more than you think, because you need a few extra inches on all sides for install. It's far easier to cut it a few inches larger and have more to slide the film on the glass if need be. Watch some YouTube videos on how to install. It can be tricky to get installed without bubbles. Buy an install kit with one of those fuzzy velvet squeegees. You'll also need some sort of metal flat thing, like a dough knife or putty spatula, to run the exacto blade across the edges. Don't skimp on exacto blades. I ended up using a fresh one for every single window, and it really helped. You can carefully peel back the film if you find some grit under it, but be super careful. That way lies madness. Be prepared that perfection is not gonna happen. I got mine 95% perfect. I have animals so there is an occasional pet hair or wife hair. I had one window with a weird latch that was super hard to cut around. However, 95% is good enough, and nobody can notice unless they are up there looking for errors. You literally cannot see in my home from right in front during daylight hours withe the curtains open, and certainly not from across the street where my nutty neighbors sell whatever it is they sell 24/7. The film also works really well with repelling heat form the sun. It made an enormous difference. Because of this I put some on my clouded glass windows in the bathroom, and it really really worked. I was shocked at how much it reduces heat. The cat is not thrilled by this, but the rest of us are. We are very happy. After the first couple windows we got into a groove, and it was pretty easy to put them up. I got better at it the more I did, so I don't begrudge doing the gold silver and blue silver first, then ripping them out. They were great practice windows, and helped me learn the process. This was very very easy to install (we did 8 windows total). Before purchasing I read a bunch of other reviews and used their tips for install and it was a piece of cake. I could feel the reduction in the amount of heat radiating off the windows as soon as I put it up. My main priority in purchasing this was not for privacy but for reducing the amount of heat in our house. We live in Central Florida and the summer heat is intense, which means insane electric bills! I'm really hopeful these will reduce our electric expense this summer. The amount of natural light coming into our living room is obviously dimmer, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make to save on our AC bill over the summer. The mirrored effect from the outside is cool, it really just looks like a reflection on normal glass, so nothing crazy for the HOA to gripe about. ... show more

I got this window cling to hide my cats from the birds eating in my window bird feeder. It worked instantly but the installation wasn’t easy. Although I used a lot of soapy water to try to get a smooth install I still have bubbles.

Ever see an 18 year old in a 1998 WRX with a terrible window tint job they did themselves? It looks ridiculous. Ever seen a pro window tint job? it’s flawless. I have a double hung window in my shop/garage that has 2 glass panes about 23.5 x 16. I had a plastic Venetian blind on the window that was filthy dirty that had to go. Preface here - I am a very experienced DIY person with a wide variety of skills and abilities including roofing, siding, wiring, building furniture and even making custom knife handles (see photo so you know I’m not BS-ing). I’ve worked as a diesel and auto mechanic and rebuilt burned out homes to put myself through pharmacy school 45+ years ago. This simple window tint film project sucked. I watched 60 minutes of YouTube videos, have seen this done professionally on windows at my house where it came out perfect. Since this was an out of the way garage window, I figured I’d give it a try. I followed every hint in every video, I used the right tools, cleaned the windows 4 times including scraping them twice inside with a brand new 4 inch razor scraper blade. I even mixed up the baby shampoo and water suggested in 2 videos. I used new micro fiber towels on the final window clean then blew the glass off with compressed air. I STILL got a weird looking small orange peel effect under this film. Not bubbles per se, just small areas of orange peel. It just looks a bit like Dead Pools face in some areas. And the film scratches very easily. Never use a hard hand squeegee without a microfiber towel on top - the film will scratch. If this was on my front door window lites or a door or window seen every day, I’d get this done professionally. You can try this film but it’s a challenge even for a grizzled old DIYer like me. My west-facing front window is always so hot in the sun! The difference between the heat coming from the untreated window and the treated one is huge!! Immediately after installation the temperature in my front room dropped 5 degrees. This stuff works! I originally bought it so I cat could watch the birds without scaring them, but the UV blocking benefits keeping the heat from coming through is a huge bonus! Great product. Measure carefully and buy more than you think you need. I didn't have enough for the window so ordered another roll. I think I'm going to treat all our upstairs windows too!
