  • Pretty Handy Thing!
Style: Battery + Charger not Included
This thing is actually pretty powerful, and it keeps you from having to bend as much. It isn't the lightest thing in the world, but since it doesn't have to be lifted as high or for long, that is ok. I used this to cut up the smaller stuff while my husband used the chainsaw on the bigger stuff when we chopped down a maple that had been hit by lightening. The jaw saw helped me be able to help him and get through all the cutting quicker. The battery life is decent enough and because the little chainsaw part sort of retracts into the device, we even let our 9 year old help (with close supervision of course.) When I bought this, it wasn't exactly what I wanted, but the price was right, and now I'm glad I got it because it has been useful. Just a word of advice though, and I think this goes for most chainsaws, etc, the lubricant oil does come out and will get on things, so make sure you store it somewhere that the oil won't matter. ... show more

  • Good tool if properly used
Style: Battery + Charger not Included
The reviews for the WORX JawSaw Cordless Electric Chainsaw are wildly different. Some people have a good experience and some not. Issues? The most frequent complaint in the negative reviews seems to be the saw chain coming off. You should know that not everyone has that problem. I live in a forest. Clearing trees and branches is a regular part of our lives. My JawSaw has performed well for three months with about 2-4 hours of use per week. We have made hundreds of cuts and the chain has not come off when I was using it. Then I let a friend (who has no experience with chainsaws) try it. I noticed he changed the angle of the saw while making his cut and positioned the saw so the wood closed on the bar. The saw chain came off. Looked like a safety feature to me. If you have experience using a chainsaw, you know it is best not to change the angle of the saw while making your cut and to avoid letting the wood close on the bar. If you don't have experience using a chainsaw you, might consider getting someone to help you before using a chainsaw or a JawSaw (or writing a review). After a brief lesson, my friend made another 30 cuts and never made the chain come off again. That is the only time the chain ever came off our saw and it took less than two minutes to put it back on. Will it cut? The JawSaw chain rotates slower than a gas chain saw so it cuts slower. That said, it also cuts any kind of wood we throw at it. We have mostly hardwoods: oak, cherry, maple, hickory, Ironwood and Osage orange (Hedge Apple). The JawSaw cuts them all. It also stays sharp much longer than a typical chainsaw because the housing keeps the cutting edge out of the dirt and because it cuts slower. Batteries I have several different kinds of power tools and the different batteries do vary in important ways. The WORX batteries are good. Compared to other brands, they deliver good power for a better than average duration. Charger The tiny little charger that comes with the WORX tool sets is a good candidate for the trash. If you are comfortable waiting for 12-18 hours for a single charge you may like it. I used that twinkie charger once and immediately ordered WORX WA3835 25-min Quick Charger. I have two small (2 Amp/hr) WORX batteries. I find that each battery lasts about as long as it takes to charge the other one so with two batteries and that fast charger I can work continuously. Warranty/Customer Service My original JawSaw worked fine for three months, then it simply stopped. I phoned WORX customer service and they immediately shipped me a new one. They required me to pay $14 shipping but they paid shipping on the return. They reminded me that their warranty lasts three years (if you register the product). I found WORX warranty team to be polite and helpful. Ease of use/safety My wife and son, who are not even slightly comfortable with a chain saw, can work safely with the JawSaw without difficulty. Does it do everything? No. But, used as intended. it does a good job of what it was designed to do: cut limbs and small trees under 4 inches in diameter, slowly and safely. Summary: I would buy this product again. I would recommend it to a friend. ... show more

  • Good trimmer saw
Style: Battery + Charger not Included
I was looking for a saw I could use to trim some annoying brush and scrub trees on our property. Notably one that was growing up near a deck and had become a nuisance - that one had REALLY hard wood near the base. I've been reluctant to get a full-size chain saw just for this, and was looking for a smaller/lighter one. This one filled the bill perfectly - it's battery-driven, light, and I like that it has the protective 'sleeve arms' that the blade withdraws into when not in use. It was easy to get going (using the oil and oil can supplied with it), once the battery was fully charged. Within minutes, I had cut away one of the scrub bushes near our shed, with almost no problems. Next session, I'll tackle the one by the deck! Pros: - Light, easy to maneuver - Battery charges relatively quickly (using the standard WORX charger) - Easy to fill/refill with the blade oil, and the 'window' lets you see easily when it needs it - SHARP! (The manual warns you not to touch the blade with bare hands, even with the saw turned off and the battery removed, and they aren't kidding! The edges are like razors....) - The retracting blade feature for safety; and generally the guards around the blade when in use - Reasonable price - Shipped expeditiously Cons: - The guards can get in the way when sawing, depending on what you're sawing - in my case, scrub bushes' smaller branches can get snagged on the guards when trying to get at the main branch. But a bit of careful maneuvering gets around this. - The little gizmo that has to be pushed into a slot in the handle before the motor will turn on is a great safety concept. But [1] it takes a bit of doing to push the handle slide in so the two bits of slot line up and the thing can be pushed in. And [2] it's pretty loose in the slot and can be jostled out occasionally (in which case the chain instantly stops, so not a safety issue, just a nuisance). All in all, it's a fine tool for what I got it for. I doubt it's robust enough to handle cutting logs of any size - but I don't need that, and anticipate it will continue to meet my needs quite nicely. The "cons" I noted are (for me) minor, and the "pros" easily win out. ... show more
