This bolt cutter is strong and cuts well through all kinds of metal and pretty large thicknesses. The jaws do not open particularly wide, so this puts some limitation on its effectiveness. Definitely the best of its kind in my experience. What EASE it is to cut 1/4 inch steel shelving to size them down to build shelving for a pantry. We purchased just for that use, but keeping it in the case we have another need for it! I am an older male, and don't weigh over 125 lbs. Yes, and was able to use this easily!

I used this to cut metal mattress frames apart. This took quite a bit of time & many cuts. I was successful. That said, these are heavy. What I ended up doing was putting one end on the ground & pushing the other half down onto it. Use this method for repetitive use. It works well. I didn't cut anything that wide. I purchased this solidly built bolt cutter to speed the process of installing wire shelving in one or our closets. Although half the price of some other options, it has proven to be a solid choice. The double-action makes cutting through steel rods a quick matter. Not effortless - it still takes a bit of muscle - but sizing a wire shelf took four clips in 20 seconds.
