    • This superb little dynamo cut down the cost of firewood
We heat our home with two wood-burning stoves. The living room has has a high 16 foot ceiling. I bought one of these heat-driven fans years ago, but it was a disappointment. 1) High quality shipping container -- they come in slick, tight, well-thought out reinforced cardboard boxes. 2) Good simple instructions -- you can use right out of the box 3) Small size, and quiet - and they move a lot of warm air. Before the fan I had to crank up the stoves to warm the rooms, but now I can build an average sized fire. And the fans continue to push air long into the night without having to stoke the fire again. 4) No batteries or cords. The fan comes with a magnetized thermometer which you can use to monitor the temperature of the stove, but now I just build an average-sized fire and set the fan on the stove's flat surface. Set the fan at the rear of the stove as it pushes warm air that is hovering above the stove in the direction you wish. 5) The fan makes our stoves much more efficient and we've already cut the amount of firewood burned in a week by half. Also, by cutting down the size of the fires it lessens the chance of a chimney fire. 6) Solid and silent. The fans seems to be well-engineered. They have the heft of a quality product and they are silent when turning. In this age of never-ending disappointment, I am overjoyed with this fan. Finally tried out this purchase during a power outage. The device is simple, using a scientific principle I won't go into - suffice it to say it powers a small fan without the need for an electrical plug or batteries. As long as your Mr. Heater Buddy is burning, this will help distribute the warmth in the immediate vicinity. Don't expect it to heat an entire room; that's not what it's designed to do. The airflow is low, but an improvement over the static "upward" thermals generated by the heaters alone. Note: since it IS made of metal, it can get hot to the touch when resting on the heater or it's grate. Also, I recommend setting it as firmly as possible on its perch to avoid the clunk of it falling on the floor. Overall, I am impressed most with not needing any batteries or plugs. (I have another Buddy that DOES chew up batteries for it's fan and a ventless heater that uses an AC plug for its fan which obviously won't work in a power outage.) ... show more

While it doesn't produce a huge wind, the fan definitely helps push the hot air into the room. I have it on top of a direct-vent furnace that has no blower. The fan starts up within a couple minutes of the furnace kicking on. It's extremely quiet--basically silent. like it so much that I'm considering buying a second one. ... show more

I read reviews to make sure i did not get a lemon or poor quality product. This thing impressed everyone. My friend has a cabin in the mountains and he just installed a small and very old wood stove. With no insulation the heat escapes really quick. When the low was about 30 degrees out he could only get the cabin temp about 60 degrees and it only got colder as the night went on. With no electricity the cabin stays a lot colder on one side and only fairly warm by the wood stove. His last trip it got down to 33 and with this fan blowing all night the temp never dropped below 68 and it was comfortable at the farthest corner from the wood stove. ... show more

Everything looks good, the fan starts whirring, silently, as expected once the heat builds. The thing is I can hold a match in front of this "fan" and the flame doesn't even flicker. Zero air is moving, so it's useless for what it's supposed to do. I have another fan, years old, on the stove in my cabin and you can't wait for it to start moving air it makes such a difference. But this one may as well not even be on the stove. ... show more

I placed them in opposite directions on the top of the stove. They both started working a full 10 minutes before the stoves blowers came on. Love that they do not need batteries or electric. Made of solid metal. Nothing to melt. Makes use of the heat escaping from the top of the stove. Well worth every penny. Going to be a cold winter with high oil prices.
