Description

There are ten golden rules if you want to survive an encounter with a fae:Don’t ask their name.If they ask you what your name is, lie.Avoid looking directly into their eyes.Don’t invite them to your book club. Don’t instigate a snowball fight.Never let them burn their mouth on coffee. Don’t ask them where they’re from.Don’t tell them where you live.Never mention their queen.Don’t try to kill them with an ordinary human gun.If you fail to do any of these things, enslave them immediately. On a cozy fall morning, Kate Kole is nestled in a coffee shop in the city of Toronto reading her favourite novel when she accidentally kills a guy who's being rude to the coffee shop's cashier. Unfortunately for Kate, the person she killed was a fae assassin of the North Corner of Ever, visiting the human realm in secret. From there, four deadly fae assassins come to the human realm to hunt her down for breaking a fairy law and killing one of their own. Leading them is Prince Cressica Alabastian, the most feared and deadly fae assassin of the North and heir to the North Corner of Ever. After the assassins arrive in the human realm, things go terribly wrong. To Prince Cressica's horror, his assassins unwittingly get roped into running a cozy café on Kate Kole's behalf. To blend in, the fae assassins are forced to learn how to do basic human activities like cleaning up after themselves, driving without road rage, reading popular fantasy books at book club without getting into alpha male fights over what they’re reading, and in general, be nice, all to blend into regular human society. With a temper like no other, and deadly power that's unmatched, Prince Cressica seeks to get revenge on Kate Kole. But as he aims to strike where it will hurt her the most, the Prince finds himself enchanted by his human target in more ways than one. And when the darkness of the Ever Corners comes knocking at the human realm's door, he needs to make a choice that could cost him everything. WELCOME TO FAE CAFÉ is like Holly Black’s tricky FOLK OF THE AIR schemes meeting your grandmother’s freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. With a sweet, comical romance and relatable slice-of-life moments colliding with manipulative fairy games and deathmatches, this book puts a spin on the typical fae stories readers know and love and aims to be the coziest rom-com fae book of all time. This book may leave you with answers to questions you never knew you wanted to ask, such as, "How many fae assassins does it take to screw in a lightbulb?" With coziness for days, WELCOME TO FAE CAFÉ is a new spin on some of the most popular fae fantasy tropes, in a setting where fae most definitely don't belong. If you like fantasy and you like rom coms, this may just be your cup of tea. (Or coffee.) Read more

  • A unique modern fantasy perfect for any fae lovers
Fantasy and rom-com have the perfect meet-cute in the newest release from Jennifer Kropf. Welcome to Fae Cafe dares to ask the question: what would happen if fairy assassins came to our world…and were enslaved to run a cozy coffee shop? Kate Kole finds herself on the wrong side of fairy law and is pursued by a handful of the fairy queen’s best assassins. Luckily, she’s able to bring them to her side with a little enchantment, and that’s when the comedy ensues! Picture pumpkin spice lattes, book club, snowball fights, and ugly sweater parties. Now picture having to explain it to four grumpy male fairies who are begrudgingly required to protect you from getting killed every time you walk out the door. That’s pretty much this book in a cute and cozy nutshell. If you’re looking for a different type of fantasy book with fall/wintery vibes, then this just might be the book for you. While definitely within the realm of clean, this story does strike a nice balance between humor and fantasy suspense. The stakes are life and death, but there’s also freshly baked chocolate chip cookies! So dive into the High Court of the Coffee Bean and find yourself a new favorite comfort read. ... show more

  • Absurd and adorable
What's the best way to keep someone with an enchanted crush on you away? Lock him in a closet until the spell wears off! Don't like raisins in your cookies? Threaten murder! Welcome to Fae Cafe is a collection of whimsical "what ifs" concerning how fae men would react to suddenly being planted in the human realm with zero prior knowledge, mixed in with a cozy heroine who makes you aspire to be a better person. I don't know how she's so kind yet relatable, kudos to Jennifer Kropf on that feat! This story is propelled by little moments of absurdity and witty quips, but there's real human emotion in here, and it all comes together to feel like a warm hug (or latte?). What a cute take on the fae world. 🤍 ... show more

  • Clean Romance, Fae Enchantments.
Kate has her nose in a book when the unexpected happens. A fae walked in to her favorit coffee shop. But she dosnt know he is a fae and she cant help but stand up to his rude behavior. What happens next? Well... Welcome to Fea Cafe is a fun mix of fantasy romance, comedy, and cozy vibes. If you are looking for a clean fantasy romance with a twist of Fae a sprinkle of fall leaves and a dash of christmas sugar, this will fit the bill. There are many moments in this book I enjoyed but it never dilly grabed me like the authors other books. It was fun, but lacked that true magic spark for me. I read is slowly and enjoyed it when I was reading but often put it down and read other things inbetween. So maybe just not quite my favorite cut of tea, but still good. I disagree with a few readers who think Kate isn't as well writen as Cress the main male lead. I felt it was quite the opposite. Kate felt real.to me and Cress was a harder sell. I enjoyed many of the side characters though and am looking forward to book two and learning more about one of them. ... show more

  • So much fun :)
This was well written with a continually growing, nicely paced, plot. I was laughing and crying and holding my breath at moments. The individual and relational growth was great and I absolutely adored the fae assassins. There was a nice array of side characters that added to the plot and enjoyment of the book as well. Count me in for the next one! ... show more

  • Cozy and High Stakes at the Same Time
A fun, urban fantasy read where a fae assassin squad is sent after a normal girl after she accidentally kills a fae. And then she puts the assassins to work staffing her coffee shop. This story was a bit darker and less cozy than I was expecting. It had its cozy moments for sure. But then it had moments of high stakes, action, and lots of blood. Not a bad thing. Just not fully what I was expecting initially. I look forward to the next book in this series! ... show more

  • cozy, sweet, silly, fun, touching
coffee shop + fae prince + writer FMC + fall coziness + new girl vibes = a damn good time for fans of legends & lattes and the villains & virtues series i love when i take a chance on a new book i haven't seen rec'd yet and am pleasantly surprised. for fans who might know another underrated series villains & virtues by AK Caggiano, this very much had the same vibe of "bad" mmc meets good fmc with absurd humor, though this is set in a portal fantasy in our real current world. the fae prince Cressian is looking to avenge one of his assassins, accidentally (whoops!) unalived by the ambitious but sweet Kate. much to his surprise (and misfortune), he is immediately smitten against his wishes and some slight chaos ensues. there are a lot of chuckles, a dash of exciting adventure, cozy slice of life vibes, found family, and some heart-touching moments. i really loved Cress's relationship with Grandma Lewis, and his four assassins were so endearing. also, shoutout to Jennifer Kropf for writing an Asian fae, i don't think i've read one yet! i also LOVE when authors find really fun ways for fantasy characters to describe "our world" things in v creative, out-of-the-box, comical ways beyond just being confused. just a fun trope thrown in here. His stomach growled. “Hush,” he commanded it as he walked. “A really boring chat about character-driven plots,” she answered without looking up. “Ah. My favourite.” “She’ll probably smack me if I try to kiss her again.” Another grin spread over Shayne’s face. “Yes, she seems absolutely fantastic like that.” i'm excited to see the next book follow the broody assassin Mor on his own adventure. fyi, this is not a spicy read if that matters to you - if not, you're sure to enjoy it! i recommend having some freshly baked chocolate chip cookies on hand when you do ;) ... show more
