  • THE ORIGINAL WATERROWER - HANDCRAFTED AND BUILT TO LAST - Designed in the mid '80s by Yale and US National Team Rower John Duke. WaterRower continues to combine stylish design, handcrafted workmanship, our unique WaterFlywheel resistance and ethically sourced materials create the world's finest rowing simulator
  • MADE IN USA - Hand-built in Rhode Island; all timber used in the manufacture of wooden WaterRower rowing machines is sourced from sustainably managed hardwood forests in the Appalachian Mountains. The A1 Oak Rowing Machine is specifically designed to be lightweight, portable, space-saving, and vertically stackable. In fact, 3 A1 rowing machines can be stored vertically in the same amount of space as ONE indoor cycling bike!
  • SMOOTH - Water rowers use a water-filled flywheel to provide resistance as you row. The resistance is created by the paddle-like blades of the flywheel moving through the water, creating a smooth and natural resistance that closely resembles the feeling of rowing on water. Like water, the harder you fight, the more resistance you get
  • BURN CALORIES IN SHORT TIME - There are many benefits to rowing. It is a low impact cardiovascular exercise that puts less stress on your joints. Full body workout that includes your legs, core, back and arms. Perfect for all fitness levels. This water rowing machine targets all major muscle groups (84 percent of total muscle mass)
  • BEST WARRANTY - 1 year manufacturers warranty (upgradeable to 3-year parts while 5-year frame is free of charge w/ registration). No call center - Work with U.S. representatives. DIMENSIONS - 82" L x 20" H x 22" W / weight: 98 lbs (with water). Easily store it on end

  • A Great at home machine
I am a graduate level student, and bought this machine to have in my apartment, for those times that I am too lazy to go to the gym after classes. I have had the machine for about 7 months now and love it. It was not difficult to put together, the instructions were fairly easy to follow and only took me about 45-65 minutes ( no more difficult than a piece of ikea furniture). The good: Solid! solid! construction, quiet, great monitor (simple stats), smooth and easy to use and overall great feel to the row, easily stands up on its end (has well constructed wheels to roll on) and fits in the corner of my room without any issue and takes up about 1.5X2 ft of space. Water tank is air tight! I also (sadly, at the age of 23) have back and knee problems, and conventional running on the sidewalk tends to kill my knees and make my back sore. This machine provides awesome cardio and has not once bothered my back or knees. The Bad: Filling the tank was cumbersome, and the included plastic manual pump (crud to start out with) had a crack in it, and did not keep a solid seal to fill the tank. (this was fixed with a little ingenuity and duct tape! but the pump is still crud). After about 40 minutes of filing my plastic recycling bin with water from the kitchen, holding the bucket at a level higher than the tank and vigorously pumping, the tank was full. My recommendation to ameliorate the situation would be to go to measure the diameter of a faucet that is closest to the area you will be keeping the rower, buy yourself some nice inexpensive tubing and stick that sucker on the faucet and fill the tank up directly. something like this would have done quite nicely. http://www.amazon.com/Watts-SVKI20-Pre-Cut-Diameter-20-Foot/dp/B0046ECL80/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1398126465&sr=8-3&keywords=clear+tubing The only other issue is that you can not adjust the level of resistance without adjusting the volume in the tank ( read the above again if you think this is fun/easy). So I just keep it on the "max fill" and alter my workout by changing the distance/time/speed of my row. I would suggest the same, as the resistance at full is about what I need for a good work out. Bottom line: I would highly recommend buying this if any of the above (back/knee problems/ too lazy to go the gym) applies to you. It really is a wonderful machine with the exception of filling the darn tank! But you only need to do that once. If you're looking to make an investment in something you will probably have for a long period of time, this is the machine to buy. It is expensive, but you really do get what you pay for. ... show more

  • I wanted to rate this lower
I actually wanted to rate this device lower than 5 stars as I was assembling it. More on that later. I have had it more than a week and use it every day, sometimes more than once. Others have touted its exercise benefits and I don't doubt those, but I think it is overlooked as a mind-focusing tool and a stress reliever. Although it's quiet enough to row and watch TV with, I have found it mentally refreshing to just focus on the rowing without background noise. It somewhat compares to running in that respect. I cannot compare it to its chief competitor, Concept 2. I can say that functionally it provides a very good workout to someone who has recently had to cut back on running because of ankle problems. Although I've run for years, I have to say the rower gives the quads quite a workout. I have also found my ankle is a wee bit sore after a session also, although it's not nearly as severe as when running. As advertised, it stands erect and does not take up much room when not in use. It has wheels that roll easily which allows you to store it in a place different from where you use it. As you row, the water makes a swish somewhat like gentle surf. It's audible but not distracting. Things fit together when it is assembled. It is sturdy. My only real quarrel is with assembly. The instructions do not identify all of the parts they refer to. At one step in the process it is necessary to sink some nuts into the footpad before attaching bolts. That is not stated in the instructions and if the nuts are not sunk, the bolts aren't long enough to reach them. That is when I entertained the idea of a one star rating and return to seller. But a helpful, friendly customer service rep quickly diagnosed my problem and things went smoothly afterwards. After assembly and considerable use of the product, its quality overwhelms my initial frustration and I don't hesitate to recommend it with five stars. ... show more

  • Love it!!
I love this rower! I am so glad that I chose it. I had been using the Concept 2 at the gym and enjoyed rowing. I wanted to have one at home for when I was too tired to go to the gym and would still be a way get a good all body workout. I read reviews and here are the reasons why I chose the waterrower over the C2 1. The Waterrower is almost therapeutic for me with the sound it makes. It sounds like you’re really on the water. It is smooth. It is also quiet and you don’t disturb the rest of the house if you have limited space and you can watch TV easily. The concept air rowers are much louder, take up more space, and don’t look as good. 2. I wanted to have it right where I would use it regularly in my smaller space, in the living room. It takes up very little space when standing up right, it is easy to move even with one hand, and it is beautiful. It looks almost like a sculpture! 3. The more advanced monitor and interacting with apps wasn’t important to me. I have now had my rower for eight months. I use it usually 3 to 5 times a week. It is important to watch your videos and start out slow to ensure you are using the correct form. When you do this you’ll feel it all over your body. Great work out and stress reliever!! This was a great investment . ... show more
