I do most of the trimming in our yard which quickly becomes overgrown, so the need for trimming is a never ending challenge. Tools can make or break some of these jobs, based upon their efficiency and I am glad to report that this Vivosun Pruner does a great job! There are a few features I evaluate prior to adding pruners to my roster. One is how wide the blades open, wanting the ability to cut some wider branches/twigs, allows me to keep cutting rather than to have the need to default to loopers. Another feature, not used while working, but equally important, is whether they have a secure locking mechanism that is simple to operate. And finally, the degree of comfort it offers in operation. The media could not be loaded. My wife needed a new pair of pruning shears and these are working out well. The blades are sharp and smooth which allows cutting a breeze even with one hand. One handed, she can cut about 3/8 inch branches with ease. So far, she is very happy with the shears and she has used them a lot. MY PERSONAL COMMENTS: I am an approved Amazon Vine Member. Great shears for pruning around the yard. They are sharp, and I used them to cut a variety of types of branches, thin, thick, dead, live. It cut through them all. In fact, cut through branches larger than I should have been cutting with them, lol. They are comfortable to hold onto, but not slippery. The lock is really easy to flip on and off with your thumb. One of the most annoying things about those cheap, generic shear is that if you leave them in the rain just once, they all start rusting and become harder to use. These can take a little water like a champ and continue to work. Very strong and I like the ergonomic ridges on the handle to prevent hand strain. I like it very much and would recommend. These shears are big and heavy duty, and so much nicer than the cheap ones out there that come in the various gardening kits. What I've noticed about those is that the kit shears tend to only last a few weeks, then start falling apart. These however are built to last much longer. The blades are thicker than most and very sharp, so they can handle branches, brush, thick weeds and such with ease. These don't feel like they're going to slip or break on me when I'm using them. And the grip on them is so comfortable. Unlike cheap shears that have little or even no grip at all on them, these have a thick grip that makes working with them so much easier on the hands. I spent a day in the garden using these Vivosun 8" bypass shears to prune holly and rhododendrons. They work beautifully. They're sharp, cut clean, fit well in the hand, and have a satisfying sound at the finish of the cut. I would compare the design and size to my Felco #8 bypass shears. The only issue I had was with the safety lock. It became loose almost immediately, preventing the lock from working properly. I tightened up the Philips head screw and that seemed to have resolved the problem, but it became loose again towards the end of the day. The screw was very hard to turn so I'm not sure how it keeps loosening, but I'll keep fiddling with it because I really enjoyed using these pruners. This is the only reason I knocked off a star and would give them 4.5 if I could. At 1/3 of the price of Felcos, you can't go wrong with the quality and value of these bypass pruners. ... show more
