  • Great Inexpensive Tripod/Fluid Head for DSLRs
Executive Summary: This is a sturdy, well-made tripod/fluid head for an amazing low price. I needed a video tripod to film a music recital for my daughter-in-law. It was to be held in a mid-size auditorium in Washington, DC. I used my Fuji X-H1 with my Canon EF 70-200 lens. The Cayer performed great, easily supporting my rig and providing a rock-solid image. I selected the Cayer because it uses a ball base, which makes fine tuning the level very easy. The ball base worked well, making setup quick and easy. The legs are sturdy and the locks are strong. The fluid head is nice and smooth and the pan and tilt lock work great. The plate is large and balancing the camera on the head was easy. When I filmed, I was at medium to long telephoto and the movements were smooth. Be aware that the pan is not as smooth as the tilt. If you are looking for an inexpensive solution that can stand light to moderate use, this fits the bill. Based on my prior experience with television and motion picture cameras, mostly using Miller heads, I don't think this would stand up to hard or heavy use. Still it is well worth the price. ... show more

  • Best video tripod for the price
As a self-employed videographer, I am always on the looking out quality equipment at a good price and this tripod did not disappoint. It is plenty sturdy to support a DSLR rig, and it has more than enough variation in height to suit all my video needs, from interviews to events. The head is easy to level, and the pan and tilt is fairly smooth but not perfect. If you are going to be following lots of motion, it might be worthwhile to invest in a higher quality tripod head, but if you are mostly going to be shooting static shots, than the stock head is more than adequate. I also really appreciate that this tripod uses a standard Manfrotto plate instead of a proprietary plate, meaning that I can easily switch between this and my other tripods without issue. I do find that the screws holding the central stabilizer braces can come loose, and do require the occasional bit of tightening, but at this price, this is not enough to ding it for. Just keep an extra baggy of screws and nuts in your gear bag, just in case. All said, I cannot imagine finding a better tripod than this for the price. I have bought two of them already, and would not hesitate to buy more if the need ever arises. ... show more

  • Super mighty impressed - perfect for recording your kids' games
I am Engineer, with little video experience. We bought this tripod to record Pop Warner football for our team. We looked at the local photography store, and this tripod is at least as nice as those three or more times as expensive ones. This tripod is no gimmick. As an Engineer, comparing those I saw in the store, my opinion is that this tripod is meant for the professional videographer. This is no amateur, or starter gear, although super easy to use for beginners as well. We are now using it for two months and eight games in various settings, from fancy video box, to speaker tower, to shaky scaffolding, on bouncy bleachers, in heavy Texas rain and blistering sun, and on the muddy turf. It can be put up within minutes, and is rock solid. Even being on the speaker tower with the whole thing shaking from the bass of the loudspeakers, this tripod did not flinch. Same thing with kids running and jumping on the bouncy bleachers. Material is casted and milled aluminium, extruded aluminium piping, and hard plastic with all stainless steel screws. No worries of rusting. The workflow is, you extent first section legs, and if needed second section to the degree you need it. You adjust ballhead to level. Adjust pan-handle to your requirements, mount camera to plate, and adjust sled so that camera tilt is level depending on your position over the field. The drag for the pan and tilt is medium (compared to what I tested in the store of big-name brands) and cannot be adjusted. It works very well with DSLR and tele-zoom lens. Movement is smooth and I would say slightly progressive. Tripod folds down into bag, within three minutes. It does not feel too heavy to carry, but I would not take it on long hikes. Planing to mount monitor onto head, but have not done this, yet. I subtracted one quality star as the first one had a machining issues that made head movement "crunchy" at times when. Seller replaced within days, ready for us for the next game. Second one arrived perfect. Very nice attention to details in machining otherwise. ... show more

  • Fantastic Value with the necessary features for producing great video!
A few years ago, I recommended this Cayer tripod to my Church for both Sunday services and remote applications. I already owned a similar, shorter tripod, but wanted a bit more height for the Church, and this Cayer tripod and video head ticked all the important boxes. Ultimately, I decided to purchase the same Cayer model tripod and video head for my own productions. The Cayer BV30L really deserves the "Professional" label in the description, meeting or exceeding the basic functions for 'professional' video production; i.e. smooth pan and tilt, with sufficient rigidity in the tripod/lower-section to eliminate jitter during those basic motions. I've been involved in video production since the late 1960s, working with old plumbicon-tube studio cameras with rack-mount prime lenses, attached via large umbilical cables to the control room, where camera-switching and recording took place, using Ampex 1" open-reel B&W tape recorders. I'm fully retired now, so the Church and my personal video productions help to keep the video part of my brain alive, and the Cayer BV30L is my goto video support system. Bottom line: The Cayer BV30L 72 inch- Professional Video Tripod System solves my video support and smooth movements needs, and I highly recommend it for most users from entry-level consumer through Indie-Video and low-end professional. ... show more
