  • Comparable to my $700+ Manfrotto tripods for a fifth the cost
Size: 72 inch
This tripod (the 72" version) seems to be a pretty close approximation of the Manfrotto tripods that I've bought, which IIRC cost me about 5x as much. It is perhaps not *quite* as solid (I'm not comparing them side by side — going entirely from memory here), but if it isn't, then it's not very far off. It has what seems to be (upon only cursory testing so far) a solid, well-built pan head with spring counterbalancing and a sliding plate to center the weight of your camera over the head, complete with a latch to prevent the camera from falling on the floor if you accidentally loosen the wing bolt that locks the plate. (This design is fairly standard in high-end tripods.) The slide plate supports both sizes of camera threads (though I've never actually seen a camera that didn't have 1/4" threads — even larger pro gear tends to have both these days — so I must admit that I'm wondering why the industry continues to bother supporting 3/8", but I digress), with the usual design, where you can remove a rubber stopper, slide the screw pieces to the end where the stopper was, and remove them so that you don't have to deal with the extra piece that you don't need. And like most high-end tripods, you can screw the unused screw piece into a hole at the front edge of the tripod head (with the smaller-sized hole on one side and the larger-sized hole on the other) to get it out of your way without accidentally losing it. The tripod also has a bowl swivel under the head and a bubble level for getting things exactly right even on crappy, uneven surfaces. This is pretty standard on expensive tripods, but pretty much unheard of anywhere near this price point, AFAIK (at least as of a couple of years ago). The handle is pretty similar to Manfrotto handles, but not quite. (These tripods' handles use larger bolts and smaller grip surfaces). The handle has teeth on the grip surface to prevent you from accidentally rotating the handle up or down (while still allowing you to do so by loosening the screws far enough). It also has a collar that you can twist to allow you to extend the length of the handle for better leverage. All in all, this seems like a very solid tripod, particularly for the money, though it remains to be seen how well the fluid head will hold up in real-world use. Ask me to re-rate this product five or ten years from now, and I'll tell you. :-) The only obvious things missing when comparing it with my Manfrotto tripods are: 1. This doesn't come with snap-on clips for holding the legs together while carrying it, nor for setting the default length to which the tripod opens. For a tall tripod like this, those clips are really useful, so they should seriously think about adding them. 2. No Allen wrench attached to the leg for tightening loose screws and set screws that inevitably eventually happen to any tripod that gets significant field use. 3. No separate pouch in the carrying bag to hold the handle(s). 4. No additional handles available from the seller. (Compatible handles do exist, though.) Other than #4, these are all very minor nuisances. #4 is a slightly bigger headache. For pro use, a lot of folks prefer to use two handles, because it gives them more control (not to mention the ability to attach a manual focus control to one handle and a zoom control to the other). Fortunately, it is possible to buy additional handles that work with this. Determining a specific compatible product involved figuring out which manufacturers use M8 screws for their handles, then counting the splines that prevent the handle from rotating in product photos. But I just did the work so you don't have to. :-) To make a long story short, if you want a second handle, order the Varizoom VZTK75AH handle. It is both fully compatible with this tripod and visually indistinguishable from the handle that comes with this tripod. (This is not to say that the rest of the tripod is the same — they're not the same size — but they do appear to use identical handles.) ... show more

  • Excellent tripod! Extra height and heavy duty!
Size: 75 inch - Lightweight
This tripod fit perfectly on a dolly base that I already had. Nice stable and smooth operation. Would recommend this tripod to anyone who is looking to upgrade their gear. The price is very reasonable and photog friendly!

  • Seems awesome
Size: 72 inch
The media could not be loaded. I have an older DSLR. I'm a little late on learning my Canon 5DIV has some decent video capabilities. I had the urge to shoot more video (surfing) so I needed a good video tripod. I don't have anything to compare it too, but it seems to do the job pretty good after two uses. I'm far from mastering video and this tripod but it has been easy to use so far. It seems sturdy, panning is smooth left, right, up and down which is what I was looking for. ... show more

  • Great quality for the price!
Got this to replace a cheap thrift store tripod my wife had picked up a few years ago. This tripod is literally head and shoulders above that one. It can go so high, which will be great if I ever have to ask a 7 foot tall person to take our family photos. The legs are very sturdy, and the mount head is smooth, adjusts easily, and holds its settings quite well. I’m sure there are better tripods, but the amount you’re going to have to pay is probably only going to get you a tripod that’s 5-10% better. R you’re just starting out and need something solid yet affordable, this one meets those demands. ... show more

  • Sturdy heavy-duty tripod
Size: 72 inch
If you're looking for a lightweight tripod solution, this one may not be the best for your needs. If, however, you want something with some weight and stability, this is a great choice. It's a great choice for a heavy camera or, in my case, a heavy teleprompter setup with camera. Unlike my other basic tripod which tips easily, this one is solid. Great value for the money. ... show more

  • Amazing!
Size: 72 inch
I was skeptical but after I set it up, It definitely compares to a pro tripod, even my little Manfrotto one. This tripod is sturdy and works smoothly. A great price and it compares to any professional tripod.

  • Great tripod. Appreciate the fluid mount.
Size: 72 inch
Mounted 20x80 binoculars, works well! My adapter is a bit flimsy but no fault of the tripod. Nice!
