Total junk! Cast leg support cracked during the first use and the tripod is not functional. Been using a similar tripod from Manfrotto for 5 years without a problem. I take care of my gear and this is very disappointing. The adjustable arm did not lock in firmly. Very poorly designed tripod.

  • Amazing Functionality and Quality Tripod!
I may be a bit new to this video making stuff but this is exactly why I purchased this tripod. Let me tell you one thing, it's generally amazing and the design is superb. Also, friends of mine who are into photo and video were extremely jealous when I pulled this out. I mainly do automotive related filming and such, I thought this would be good for leaning it over the engine bay and getting some cool shots. It definitely does more than the average tripod and well, that's why I picked it. The quality is strong but light enough to where it's not annoying to carry for long periods of time. The spikes on the feet or paws you might say are pretty cool, you can turn the paws clockwise to reveal them or counter-clockwise to retract them. The tripod comes with a nice storage back which is also made well, it's easy to wear on the shoulder. It does extend very high, taller than me and I am 6' approximately and it will get very low too. What's pretty cool is if you want even lower shots, you can pull the neck out and insert it from the lower end which works well too. Overall, this is a great product! ... show more

  • Finally.
PROS - Multi-angle head is the best one in the industry (in my opinion) - Leg Angle adjusting buttons are best in the industry (in my opinion) - Lightweight but feels solid - Goes super low and quite high - Came with a free bag which is good enough for me - Price is BETTER than the name brand rivals which aren't as good as this one CONS - Haven't found any yet. Seriously. I must have bought 10 different tripods trying to find one I am happy with. I finally made it to this one and really feel satisfied. Let me tell you why I hate every other tripod that is comparable to this: The multi-angle feature that is becoming standard on most tripods are very insecure, flimsy, and overall feel clunky. This is the best one available in the industry, by far. Manfrotto includes this feature on their mid-to-lower end tripods and I swear it almost broke on me when I tested it out. It look like the center column chamber was going to split. When the Manfrotto center column isn't standing straight up, it shakes like it's a cold, wet dog. Not sturdy at all. The Alta Pro has a separate tightening knob just for the center column which I have not seen on any other brand. The angle buttons for each of the tripod legs are nice big push in buttons compared to everyone else's smaller push in wedges. Those wedges are a joke compared to these guys. The Alta Pro is so much easier to push. If you tried to push in one of those wedges on a cold day with frosty hands, you're eyes will water from the pain it causes. And it pinches me all the time! Those two features alone are why I would award this tripod "The Best In Class" award. Also, it has the actual flip locks for the leg lengthening which I prefer over the circular screwing. And it includes the metal spiked feet which are non-standard on other brands. I am really surprised I haven't heard much from this brand before. ... show more

  • I love the configuration and features
I have had this tripod for a year now, and no longer use it. I love the configuration and features, but the manufacturing quality is horrible. I have now had three of thes (This one that I ordered first, another one that I ordered to use while the first one was in for warranty repair/replacement, and the new one they sent to replace under warranty). On each one the same issue occurs right away - the legs become "floppy" and do not stay put when moved to a position. This is a real PITA when you use your tripod every day as I do. I lived with this for 11 mos, and finally returned it because in addition to the legs being loose (even after adjustment). the leg detents failed and no longer stopped one of the legs. Since I would be waiting for warranty return, I bought a new one ( I needed a spare anyway). That one failed in 3 weeks. One of the leg sections stuck in the extended position and would not move. So I returned the one bought as a replacement, and still have the new one that was sent under warranty replacement. I dont use it though. Instead I bought a Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 055. Nearly identical in features and with the Manfrotto name. There is an amazing difference in the feel of these two tripods. The Manfrotto legs feel secure and stay in position, wheareas the Vanguard/Alta feels weak and insecure. The Manfrotto costs about $50 more and is well worth it. I really wanted to like this tripod, it is such a great concept. Unfortunately, the implementation and execution of the design is sub-par. If you use your tripod regularly, you will probably be disappointed if you buy this item. ... show more

  • My new go-to tripod...this thing's a beast!
Pros: Heavy duty, infinitely adjustable, well made. Cons: It's pretty heavy - may consider the carbon fiber one if you'll be backpacking with this thing! Though, the heavy weight is handy on windy days! Bottom Line: I frickin love this thing. It's my new go-to tripod. 90% of the time, I just use it like a regular one...but it's very handy if I need to get an obscure angle, or get close to the ground for a macro shot. Definitely recommend!! ... show more
