  • Great stove, Great customer service!
The TRANGIA 27-3 Ultralight Alcohol Stove Kit is a nice compact cooking solution. It is very light weight, compact and includes the TRANGIA spirit burner which sets the standard when it comes to alcohol burners. I was disappointed to find my kit was damaged during shipping. It was a little difficult to get in contact with the seller through Amazon (It just kept linking to a page that said no returns), but once I was able to get in touch with them, Tazeem was very helpful in resolving the problem and sent a replacement. I would highly recommend this stove and this seller. ... show more

  • Primus multifuel stove BOOO .... Trangia stove YAY!
Bomb Proof! I wouldn't look at a primus stove. This is light, simple, quick / reliable to light. I think there is enough positive reviews for this product so i'm going to talk about an alternative that some might be thinking of buying. ========================== The primus option: ========================== My Bro gave me a brand new primus multifuel stove.... complete cook set (top of the line from a sponsor for a trans amazon trip he took a few years ago). The primus stove supposedly could run on gas, diesel, kerosene ... whatever by changing out nozzles. I messed the the primus stove for a couple years (yes years.... probably 50+ times).... never took the thing camping since it was so dang heavy (the reason my bro gave it to me prior to his amazon trip). I used it to boil large pots out the in the backyard to cook lobster. The heat output was intense when it worked. FAR greater than the trangia stove. So the major downside to the primus option was weight and reliability. I know i know the primus is the "best" in the world / can be used anywhere. Guess what... its finicky, gets dirty quick, requires constant disassembly / reassembly. I wouldn't trust it in a life / death situation where I needed to melt snow or provide heat. Very hard to light if its not in the best conditions and put away clean. Too much to go wrong, and now i don't even try to use it since i'm sick of taking it apart and cleaning it each time. It sits in my garage awaiting to be sold on ebay. The thing requires small sensitive nozzles much like what you find on a oil burning furnace in your home. Those nozzles can get clogged with the slightest bits of dirt or soot and renders your stove unusable. If you are lucky you can take the nozzle apart and poke the hole of the nozzle with the provided tool. This sometimes works. However, sometimes you literally have to disassemble everything and wipe / clean thoroughly. I don't like the fact I can loose small pieces and my stove doesn't work out in the field any longer. The tear down / assembly process is messy and fairly time consuming even doing that in your garage. Up on a mountain in blowing winds / freezing hands and I would say mission impossible. You'll end up loosing your pieces in the snow and be SOL. The other mechanism that might be prone to failure is the pumping bottle.... the cork inside requires grease to create pressure. I've had to tear that apart to service and again.... you mess that up in the field and you are SOL. Again people swear by the primus stove so what do I know? I might have just had bad luck and got bad fuel or nozzles or something else. The trangia on the other hand runs on one fuel, but it ALWAYS lights and runs. Heck I just use a ferro rod and it kicks up no prob. No it doesn't output enough heat to boil pots for lobster, but for back country use I am melting some snow to drink / cook and it does that well EVERYTIME.... not like the primus option. The primus option was actually a bit hard to dial back / keep a flame going for that delicate cooking (i.e. not scorching your meal). Okay a few more bashes on the primus stoves (the pump / multi fuel stoves): They are noisy (not a big deal if you are in a small group), and have a mini jet engine noise going on. Definitely can wake others in a group. Also, I couldn't imagine cooking in a confined space w/ a primus stove that was running on gas or diesel due to the fumes during startup / shut down. The trangia fuel is pretty benign and not offensive. ... show more

  • A must have for ecofriendly folk!
I bought this set to replace a tiny butane stove. Butane works quite well unless temperatures drop bellow freezing. Also, I don't like throwing the empty cans in the common trash (only option where I live). I wanted a reusable alternative. So I bought this alcohol stove and cooking set (I also bought the kettle). It works great. Boiling half a liter of water takes 5 minutes, and you can cook or simmer easily. The pots are really small, so beware: it's ONE PERSON ONLY! (I put a regular 300 mlt mug inside one of the pots for comparison). I have two complains: First one is the material, aluminium. It is really thin, so you have to be carefull or your food will stick. Also, it get's stained by boiling water (unless you add some drops of lemmon or vinegar to the water). And the alcohol will stain the bottom of the pots and kettle (see pictures 1 and 2). But my main complain is that the set doesn't include a lid for the pots (that's why I took a star off) and they don't sell one separatly. And no, they claim you should use the frying pan as a lid, but it doesn't really work. You can only use it upright (you place it upside down and it would kill the fire) and once it's wet finding where to put it (and then lift it again) on the dirty floor is a pain. I WANT AS LID! Now, I bought this set because it was the only one available on Amazon at the time. If you can find them, go for duossal or non stick. So, a couple complains, but all in all, the set works great, so go for it! ... show more
