I paddle my canoes and kayaks a lot--year round here in the PNW. I basically wanted a lightweight portable cook stove that I could use to heat up water for coffee, ramen noodles, and freeze-dried backpacker meals. this stove works GREAT for that! Seems to be very well built and heats 1 liter of cold water to full boil in about 3 minutes. I really wanted to be able to make coffee with this, so I purchased one of the Jetboil silicone french presses, and it works great!! The 1,000mm/grande size works perfect--all I had to do was drill a small hole in the Fire-Maple lid to accept the shaft of the french press plunger/filer, and Voila! Hot yummy coffee with no grounds!! Highly recommend this--all in with coupons etc. I paid $60 for the stove and french press kit--which is about a 1/3 the price of the equivalent Jetboil system. I couldn’t bring myself to spend almost 3 times the price of this maple fire set on the “other “ brand. I was willing to roll the dice on this hoping it would at minimum be half as good and at least useable. I am now a fan. This thing is built just as well as the jetb and works great. Solid but very light weight. All the reviews I saw said to be careful with the Coleman brand fuel cans that they don’t really work as the valve seat is made too low. No such issues for me I have both the green and the red Coleman cans and they work just fine. It boils very fast and efficient. I am skeptical when buying cheaper brands of tried and true products but I got to say after trying this out I will be happy to recommend it. ... show more

This is exactly what I was expecting. I don’t see any flaws in design - plastic base was cool to the touch after boiling water. I really can’t see how the plastic would melt as mentioned in other reviews - maybe it was left unattended for a long time. This unit is very well built and performed as expected. Easy to use, light, great little bag to carry the whole unit in. Boils water as quickly as advertised and easy to handle with the built in handle and wrap around protector. Only drawback is that in a light wind (less than 5mph) it blew out a couple times. Once I set behind my water tank, it worked like a charm. I have had a lot of backpacking stoves over the years and while this system might not be the most fuel efficient system I have ever used its by far the most well thought out! The design is amazing and fits everything you need including your fuel inside the cook pot so you save space in the pack. You can use it with the pot provided or you can use the system as a stand alone and use any pot, pan, or otherwise and it so works wonderfully! It's hot a large base so it's very durable and stable when using! Another bonus is you can heat up enough water in one go for two "mountain house" style meals, which means my wife doesn't need to pack a stove at all which is awesome because it saves her pack weight! If you're an ultralight kinda person it's fairly large and kinda heavy, but if you are a normal backpacker and you want a quality way to consistently heat up quite a bit of water this is for sure the way to go!!! Also for the price you really can't beat it!!! I will be buying more from these guys in the future!!!!! ... show more

Update: company contacted me and we did some troubleshooting. Unfortunately it looks like it was a flawed ignition. New one is being sent. I am a customer for life because the customer service is top of the line. Got the product and set it up. Ignition does not work but can be lit with a lighter. Nice size and packs up perfectly. I love this thing! Jetboil is getting ridiculous on price and this comes with a larger pot. I use this for coffee, oatmeal, soup when I'm in the field and it's flawless. If you use the smaller jetboil fuel canister, everything will fit in the pot with the lid on for easy carrying. This is a game changer for long field ops. ... show more
