  • Reliable and exceeded expectations
I got this yesterday and I gave it a test run for a camping trip next week. So, the pros: Lightweight, portable, and easily assembled. Not terrible on usage but I'll get to that. It makes a goodly sized fire for it's size if you're using the right fuel. Overall, I enjoy it and think it will provide sufficient heat to cook. Cons: I don't know whether or not this is worthy of a con versus something that's expected for what it is but you will have to feed it pretty often. Since it's not a full campfire, you can't shove a big log and let it burn down. However, since this is tiny, and only requires small sticks, there is never a short supply of those in the woods! If you're looking for something easy to use, small enough to fit in a pack, and don't mind staying on top of it, this is perfect for you! If you don't want to put the extra work in and rely on cumbersome propane tanks, then I'd say move along. Overall, I would certainly get this again even as a gift for a fellow backpacker ... show more

  • Better than what I expected
There have been numerous reviews on this product and many claim that the Solo Stove alcohol burner does not fit in the stove. This is not true with the Lixada Stove I received. It fits perfectly! There has also been claims that it doesn't assemble easily and that the locking pin is too easily lost. I found it a very common sense item that is very sturdy and affordable. if you secure the pin with stainless steel loop wire before you start cooking, you not only prevent the pin from being lost, you prevent the pin from coming out during cooking. My only "pet peeve" is the square cooking platform is too prone to spilling if the pot being used isn't larger enough to fit with enough space to accommodate smaller based pots! I fixed this by purchasing two stainless steel spikes that can be slid through the circular holes on either side of the top of the cooking platform. Not only do these spikes stabilize the cooking platform and fill the void that could allow smaller based pots from slipping into the heating element, but the steel spikes increase convection and decrease heating times. A simple design that is sturdy and efficient. I like it! ... show more

  • Great stove
Only one use so far to check it out and it does what it's supposed to so far. It'll get some proper field use soon. I'll update my review if I lose a pin or anything like some other reviews have pointed out. I did poke and prod at them quite a bit to try to force one out and they seemed very secure. The price definitely seems more along the lines of what I'd expect from a few sheets of stamped metal. I couldn't justify the similar items at much higher costs. It's a hobo stove, it doesn't require a ton of engineering. It's smaller than I expected, but that is not a bad thing. It's almost oversized wallet sized once its folded up and in its pouch. Very convenient to carry and something I can throw in my pack with no thought to the space/weight it takes up. ... show more

  • This product requires some inspection and modification to be useful
Usually, a 3 star review indicates that I'm not at all happy with the product. However, given its cost of under $13 and minor mods required I actually am quite happy and plan on buying another one. I was looking for a lightweight stove stand for a Trangia burner that could also burn wood. While I have not used it with wood, I have used it with Trangia and after some mods it seems to be working out well. First off the plate to hold the Trangia required 5-10 min with a circlar file to get the Trangia to fit. I might have been able to force it in but would have probably bent the plate doing so, so choose to file it. Now it fits perfectly. With the plate to hold the Trangia installed it sits appox 1" from the top. My understanding that this the sweet spot for the Trangia burner, so that is really good. The opening at the top of the burner is a 3" wide square. This size means that while my nesting nalgene mug will fit, its not very stable. So I believe that if you plan on using a nesting cup for a nalgene, or something smaller, you need some kind of a grill on top. I'm using a computer stainless steel 120 mm muffin fan grill which seems to work prefectly. The fan grill can also fit into the pouch provided, although its tight. Using a 775 ml MSR Alpine pot I was able to boil, approx., 600 ml of water in around 7-8 minutes. I do not consider this to be to bad. The top of the burner is quite open and I think that it would benifit from the use of a wind screen Using the Trangia seems to have warped, slightly, the two of the pannels with the four holes in them. While it still folds flat it doesn't do so quite as well as before. I do not think that it will warp much if any more, as it seems to have fire formed to the plate. The Trangia also discolored the metal, turning it blue in spots. Not a major issue. After using it, I almost lost one of the pins which hold the side panels together. I guess, with heat the tension loosed off the pin and it just slipped out. Looking I seen that another one of the three joining panel pins was also very loose. So I used a pair of vise grips to pinch the top and bottom loops where the retaining pins for the panels go. The loops holding the side retaining pins are a little longer than the actual side retaining pins, so I pinched off the top and bottom enought that I do not think the side retaining pins will fall out anymore. After doing this the unit still folds up flat and works fine. The unit itself is a little ackward to put together but I don't think there is anything you can do about that. There is a pin that is used to close the unit. Mine came with a cable to attach it to the unit which was nice. If you loose this pin, I think, you could still use the unit but it would not function nearly as well. So retaining this pin is key. Note, I have not used wood in it but I see no reason why this would not work out fine. Overall, I am satisifed product based what I paid for it and what I want to use it for. However, without the Mods to the alchol burner plate and the side retaining loops, discribed above, this is just Chinese junk. Thus, the 3 star rating. ... show more

  • Perfect holder for an alcohol burner.
I got this stove to hold an alcohol burner to make hot water for tea and coffee because it’s much quieter when using it than a gas burner stove. It goes together easily using the hinge and pin assembly. It stays put once assembled. It took just a tiny bit of filing the burner plate to get it to work without binding with the burner I used. The size is perfect for use as a pot base with any steel cup that nests worth a liter bottle. It’s quite pleasant. ... show more
