    • Excellent Multi-probe Thermometer -- Only One Complaint

I have been using a couple of single-probe thermometers for many years. I always thought it would be nice to own a multi-probe unit, and even better to have one that didn't keep me "anchored" to the grill (or oven) to monitor the readings. I hopped on Amazon to look at the multi-probe thermometers. I first looked at the Bluetooth style, but found, in the reviews, that if you get out of range, the Bluetooth disconnects and can clear your readings. I also looked at some WIFI units, but I was hesitant to add another IoT device, especially wondering about the security practices of companies that are in the thermometer business. So I decided to go with an RF unit, and landed on the ThermoPro TP829. It has many nice features, including: -- 4 probes -- a small "base" unit that the probes attach to -- a larger handheld receiver/controller unit that you can carry with you to set the meat type or desired "done" temperature for each probe -- both the base unit and receiver/controller unit have fold out stands -- the system has a 1000 foot range -- nothing has to be installed on your WIFI -- there is no app to install on your phone I used the system today to cook a large package of chiken thighs on the grill. It was very easy to set up, and it worked very well. The thighs came out just right and were tender and juicy. So that's all of the good stuff, now for my one complaint... The receiver/controller has magnets on the back; however, the base unit has NO magnets, which is inconvenient for the piece that is supposed to be out at the grill. I know that many gas grills have side shelves, so you can stand it up or lay it down on one of those, but there are other grills that do not have that. I don't quite understand why they went through the trouble to put magnets on the receiver/controller that you carry with you, but did not put any on the base unit that is at the grill. Perhaps it's because the cases are made of plastic and they are worried about you sticking it to the side of a hot grill, IDK. But the other single-probe thermometers I have DO have magnets on the back and parts of those cases are plastic. Anyway, for my use, I had some magnetic tape strips, so I cut some to size and now my base unit also has magnets on the back. Purchased this thermometer set as was set to cook 3 briskets and a couple of pork shoulders at same time. My previous 2-prong thermometer was not reliable as one was 40 degrees off from the other. While it is a bit tedious to deal with the 4 probes and settings, it is great that each one can be set to a different meat type (as well as custom settings for BBQ) and hi/low settings. Unit worked perfectly, including the remote sensor. Also used on chickens once the briskets and shoulders were off. Found this thermometer set to be accurate, consistent, effective, and I am glad I made the purchase. Gave me the confidence of knowing where my meats were in their process towards greatness! ... show more

I use it all the time, even when cooking on my Traeger that already has a built in thermometer. I love the fact that there are four probes that you can set to monitor many different things. After using the probes in a smoker (max temp 250F) the bands appear near identical. The readings of the probes are spot on and the tool works perfectly otherwise.

Bought this as a gift for my husband to upgrade from a regular meat thermometer & he absolutely loves it. It’s very durable and great quality. Easy to use even for someone like me who never grills. The magnet strength is very good, hung it on the fridge with confidence. No issue with the reading speed and connectivity. Product has a great range of distance, around 30 feet or so. Really like that it has 2 probe ports. Reads temps well. Seems to be a couple degrees off from my instant read. I have no complaints so far. Easy to use and setup right out of the box with the quick start guide. I use the PROG setting rather than the presets so I can get exact temps in the smoker. Device already saved my ribs by audibly alerting me to the desired temp reached when I had drifted off to other projects. For a month it worked fine. Not exactly accurate, but consistent enough to be usable. Now with all 4 probes in ice water 2 read mid 40's, 1 upper 130's, 1 in the 190's. A tech email is in to the manufacturer, if this is fixed my review will reflect the outcome. As of now, it's useless. Of course this happened 2 days after Amazon return window. Update after 2 emails with ThermoPro, they stood behind their product 100%. Quality control is iffy in today's world, but the best companies stand behind their product.
