  • I finally feel empowered!
I've gone to therapy off and on since 2010 but I never felt better. I always felt so out of control; ruled by my depression and anxiety. Back in February it got really bad...the department chair of my grad program had to pull me out of class and take me to an emergency counseling session because I was on the verge of having a breakdown in the middle of class. But finally I feel in control. Finally I feel empowered. I finally feel like I have tools to help me with my anxiety and depression when they rear their ugly heads. I've also become much better at identifying my thoughts and feelings. The Mindfulness Toolbox helped me do that. This message is for anybody who wants to feel more in control. Who has felt like they have done things before that have just been temporary fixes. For the person who doesn't want to have to depend on another person to help them through their problems. For the person who wants to have the tools to "DIY" CBT. CBT is soooooo expensive. But it's such a great model for depression and anxiety. This book uses a CBT perspective. I recommend this book to so many people. I suggest getting the paperback copy because it's easier to make copies of worksheets. I plan on using this book with my clients (I'm studying to be an occupational therapist) and I currently use it for myself. But having the paperback version made it easy to unbind, make copies, hole punch, and store in a 1" binder for future use. ... show more

  • Great way to build tools for self or clients, adjust as you would a recipe to your own liking!
I do actually like the layout of this book. It's part of my resources working with my patients on adapting mindful techniques into their daily lives. I keep it simple, but I like to read in this some to prompt my own thoughts for ideas which come with the concepts gained from reading in here. I like the title, think it really is quite fitting. I've always used the analogy with patients, my job is to help them build tools they can place in a toolbox they will carry with them a lifetime when I'm long gone. Truth is, this book has some good mind provoking ideas you can stem off of as you build your own as a therapist or a layman. Even if I don't read the entire thing, I gain from it, as do those I work with. I do suggest it to others without a doubt. Why not 5 stars, I'd have simply done a few things differently, but I'm not going to tare it apart, it deserves respect for the author! They did a fine job. Super would be 5 stars. If I change my views later Ill update. ... show more

  • Excellent Source for Therapists/Counselors....
Great book for therapists to give handouts to their clients. This book I use to help clients with mindfulness. I am a trauma therapist and mindfulness is one of the tools I use to help others to be in the moment and relieve some of their anxiety and stress. This is a wonderful tool for every day life and living in the moment, to be free and anxiety, panic attacks and depression. Many of my clients have been relieved from their symptoms from doing the work in this book and practicing on a daily basis. ... show more

As an addiction and mental health counselor, I am using this book at least weekly. I like that it is organized into tips for therapists and each practice is prefaced by what type of learning style could use it most. I also like that the practices are broken into problem areas they would be most helpful for, such as stress or pain. I work with clients of varying attentional and cognitive levels and many of the practices seem to be useful regardless. ... show more

  • May help someone else
I found it easier to bury everything I’ve gone through which is probably super unhealthy. Not to say this book couldn’t help someone else.

  • Excellent Source to Learn Mindfulness
Great tool for learning mindfulness. It was recommended to me by my Psychologist. I did all the exercises in the book and found them to be most helpful. I had never heard of this concept so it was interesting to learn. Some of it pertains to the professional however, I felt I learned from that information as well. If you are really interested in learning this concept I would recommend starting here. ... show more
