Description

Your child isn't broken! Transform your child's ADHD into a superpower that will turbocharge how they learn, think, and grow! Peter Shankman realized a long time ago that his ADHD was responsible for most, if not all of his success. After starting and selling three companies and writing five best- selling books (including Faster Than Normal, which in five years has become the bible of ADHD and productivity), Peter decided it was time to write a book that focused on children—one that would teach them that ADHD, and all forms of neurodiversity, can be gifts, and not a curse—as long as they understand how to use them. That’s what this book is about. Come meet Peter, his mom and dad, and Dr. Lisa, and understand why having a faster brain is the best thing that a child could ask for. Read more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource!
If you are a parent, educator, or care for an Amazingly Diverse Human Dynamo (my version of ADHD) you need this book! It's a great way to help kids embrace their super power and see their strengths when so many others keep pointing out their weaknesses. Wish I would've had this ten years ago when we first started fostering. So glad to have it now! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT Read for Neurodiverse Littles, AND Their Caregivers
First off, full disclosure, I've been friends with the author, Peter Shankman, for 15 years or so. His podcast, Faster Than Normal (and book by the same name) have been an unbelievable resource for neurodivergent adults like myself. And the drum that he's been beating there for over 7 years, and nearly 300 episodes, is: "Having ADD or ADHD is a gift, not a curse." His mission is all about helping people unlock those gifts and tap into their neurodivergent strengths. Well, now we get the children's book version! We have twin, b/g, eight-year-olds, and both have been diagnosed with ADHD. One's medicated, and one's on supplements to help them manage at this age, but this book is a FANTASTIC addition to our tool box. Just getting their diagnoses a year and a half ago was a game-changer because it allowed us to recognize there were other things at play and not just First graders choosing to be naughty on a regular basis. But having this book as a resource to help clearly communicate how they're wired and start to plant the seeds for their future thriving is awesome! Can't wait to share it with those around them to help our village better understand how to support and love on them. If you've got littles in your home, or you care for some on a regular basis that you know (or suspect) are neurodiverse, The Boy with the Faster Brain is a must-have addition to your library! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful book to help understand ADHD and kids with faster brains
My son has a faster brain. We are working with him to learn to drive it safely and productively. Yesterday we read The Boy with the Faster Brain by Peter Shankman together. He loved the book. He was so happy to know he wasn’t the only kid with a brain that works faster. Representation matters. My son matters. This book matters. You matter. If you have a faster brain, or you love someone who has a faster brain, slow yourself down and get a copy of this book for you and for them. Read it together. Soak it in. You’re worth it. Thanks for this beautiful book Peter. My son loved it and so did his mom and I. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Kids with ADHD will see themselves and know they're not alone
I started reading this book to my 9 year old grandson last night, and halfway through, the 5 year old joined us too. They both stayed engrossed in the book till the end! The 9 year old has been having a hard time in school with his fidgeting and joke telling. He told me he could relate to Peter. A few minutes later, he randomly started telling me math multiplication problems out loud and I said, "See! You're harnessing your fast brain!" His eyes lit UP and he gave me a high five. This morning, he told me he has nightmares sometimes. I asked if maybe he should go talk to a doctor like Dr. Lisa. He said, "you mean a feelings doctor?", and I smiled and said yes and he seemed OK with that. The book was obviously still with him. I think this book will be read more than once! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars YOU ARE NOT BROKEN!
What an excellent springboard for children and their parents to understand and accept ADHD as a positive rather than a negative. No child should ever feel broken. Mr. Shankman shares his pain so others can benefit and create situations for success.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great explanation of ADD for kids
Written by someone who has lived with ADHD his whole life, The Boy with the Faster Brain is a brilliant book that will help kids (and their parents) everywhere. The story of Peter and his issues in school and how he gets help from a therapist and some tips and tricks can inspire your kids and arm the adults with tips to share with those kids. I also recommend the "adult" version of the book, Faster Than Normal, and the podcast. All great resources for anyone with ADHD/ADD or for those who interact with anyone with this neurodifference. It's truly a superpower and not a disability or hindrance if powered properly. Great book to inspire and help so many people. Kudos to the author! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars A Must In Every Classroom
A fantastic addition to every classroom library. This is the only children’s book that tackles ADHD. Kids will relate with the main character even if they do not have ADHD, and for those that are recently diagnosed, the book brings to light the many advantages of having a super fast brain. This should be in the library of every elementary school classroom. ... show more
