  • Fundamental Reading!
Mr. Turvey has again expanded the subject matter and content of the 4th Edition of Criminal Profiling. I have known Mr. Turvey since the publication of the 1st Edition and the "set" of four editions provides a great collection of discussions and materials written by Mr. Turvey and a prominent collection forensic scientists, psychologists, psychiatrists and criminal investigators in the world. I know Mr. Turvey to be an obsessive fact checker and the cases and assessments he makes regarding case forensic analysis and profiling methodologies are well researched and documented. Similarily, his contributing authors are solid and focused on their topics. Criminal Profiling, Fourth Edition: An Introduction to Behavioral Evidence Analysis, continues to lay a broad and solid foundation to the subject. It is no wonder that it is a leading textbook on the topic at various universities throughout the world. There are several approaches to behavioral evidence analysis ---some are based on sound research and methodology and others fraught with fraud and politics. Mr. Turvey does an excellent job of educating the reader/student as to what questions to ask to tell the difference. Needless to say, when the light of science exposes those practices which cannot be supported by a scientific method, the scientist doing so is occasionally the object of criticism by those fleeing from exposure. Mr. Turvey has never shirked controversy and his striving for intellectual honesty make this text refreshing in a field all too often in need of more professional accountability. This text is a great primer and reference to understanding the topics discussed. ... show more

  • Very Interesting and Written Very Well-Keeps Me Wanting to Learn More
This is such an interesting book! I love it. I am using it for my psychopathy & criminal profiling class. Most text books are very dry but the majority of the information in this book is written very well. There are many real world examples too so you can see how the theories and statements apply to actual life and real situations. Very informative and makes me want to learn more! ... show more

  • Interesting book!!
This book is not in any way boring like I thought it would be. I had to get it for a course at school, and it's very detailed and easy to understand. It gives you the learning you need, plus cases related to what your learning. It was a six week accelerated class so we didn't get through the whole book, but I plan on keeping this one, not reselling it and reading what we didn't cover in class. ... show more

  • The Gold Standard Criminal Profiling Textbook
I am a retired NYPD Detective who has read hundreds of forensic science text books over the years. There are some books you read and find some gold nuggets to use in your work. Turvey's work is pure gold. There is no better text to be found on the subject of criminal profiling. I have over twenty years of police experience and have been involved in the investigation of thousands of rapes, serial rapes, sexual assaults, child abuse, false reports, and sexual homicides. Unlike any other text or mass market paperback on the topic, this text can be used and practically applied by the criminal investigator. This is the "Bible of Criminal Profiling." ... show more

  • Must have book!
Awesome book with tons of information. Great for students or anyone in the field of Criminal Justice. I am a board-certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst & graduate of the National Forensic Academy at the University of TN. Even the older editions are worth the buy!

  • Passive aggressive
This book contains a lot of great information and explains how, why, and the sequence of comprehensive criminal proofing. However, this is overshadowed by the authors passive aggressiveness toward other profiles both past and present. He makes the case that criminal profiling is a relatively new discipline. In trying to assert his own expertise, he works very hard to prove that he is better than anyone else in the field. ... show more

  • How not to profile!
This book is not going to tell you how to profile, but it will tell you some of the ways not to profile. It explains some of the many ways "profiles" should not be used, and why they are imperfect. (Hint: The BAU in TV's "Criminal Minds" does it wrong and the profiles are unrealistically accurate.)
