We needed to lightly till our yard for grass overseeding. This took care of our medium sized yard easily on one charge. It will dig down about two inches to turn the soil over, which was just what we needed before seeding to get it to take after multiple failed attempts without tilling. We also tried a heavy tiller rental from the local hardware store, and it was just WAY too much for what we needed. We tried a dethatcher on a recommendation as well, and it was very cumbersome and worked poorly. We ended up getting a refund on it. This tool did better than the big rentals and also is perfect for turning the soil over in our garden as well. Can't recommend this tool enough. So glad I bought it for about 1.25x the cost of a rental for a few hours. ... show more

I purchased this to till clumped bagged soil that I added to my raised beds . It worked very well for that and regular tilling of garden soil . Would probably not work well tilling through new sod , but I never intended it for that . I highly recommend for regular tilling of garden soil . Our heavy duty tiller is great for breaking up the ground for planting, but once the plants are growing up, it is too big and unwieldy to use in between the rows of growing plants. This battery powered tiller surprised me for how strong it is, and how well it takes and holds a charge. It is very lightweight considering the work it can perform, and is easy to lift up or maneuver in between tight spaces. It is light enough to be hung on a hook by its handle when not in use.
