  • Make sure to buy oil
This works great and is more power than needed for my large Oak tree. Was not as hard to put together as I expected. Took about 2 hrs. With help from my 7 year old son. MAKE SURE TO BUY OIL. You will need hydraulic AW 32 (2 gallons) and oils for the motor (approximately 1/2 Qt) 10W30 or other weight based on your weather. Only negative is I wish it had a tow bar. It’s not hard to move but it will wear you out going up hill or over sticks. ... show more

  • Works very well
I was very pleased with the way that I was able to split even the largest rounds ... much larger than advertised when in the vertical position. The splitter operated smoothly and powerfully at a nice even pace that allowed for precise positioning of the round or segment. It rolls easily but is awkward to balance while doing so. There is no protection for the engine and hydraulic oil supply hose if you tip it too far backward and lose balance. Although I torqued the nuts to the proper value, the front support is tubular and bolts through to a flat plate, so after a couple of hours of operation, I needed to re-tighten them. All-in-all, I am satisfied with the value for the cost. ... show more

  • Excellent Machine
The TL;DR on this is that it's a good design that should be reliable for a home user. Don't even think twice. It's great. If you want a long drawn out review, read on: Bought this because I was struggling with some knotty, spongy wood trying to split it by hand. Could not, for the life of me, get a wedge started and the maul kept bouncing off. Kind of narrow too so it couldn't be kept upright to work on easily. Gave up in frustration and pulled the trigger on this that evening after some research. Received a couple of days later. I have to say that overall I was very impressed right away with the packaging. This is an often overlooked step in the manufacturing process, but this little crate was well engineered to be compact, secure and protected, but also not very heavy, so points right there for the SuperHandy people. I've crated up heavy products for shipment before, so I appreciate it when it's done right. This speaks to the professionalism of the people who work at this company. I also like the design of the ram head, which attaches to a piece of plate via a clamp on either side. I think this design is superior to the similarly priced ones you find at TS or HD which have a channel the ram sits in along the middle of the slide, which likes to fill up with bark and dirt and causes problems from what I've seen. My old man built a homemade one when I was a kid that was designed just like this for his professional logging business and we never had a problem with it after thousands of cords being run through it. I can't speak to the longevity of everything else on the machine, but I think you won't have problems with this part of it. You do need to grease it to keep it in good shape though, especially when you leave it sit to keep it from rusting badly. I have a container full of used wheel bearing grease that I use for applications like this. A good way to get it done is to brush some along the slide after each use. After assembly and adding oils, I gave it a try, using the most knotted up piece imaginable first. This one had a branch almost as big as the main trunk running through the one end. The ram did move very slowly through the piece, but it was because it literally cut through against the grain on a piece almost as wide as the wedge. That will require every bit of the 25 tons it claims to be and a sharp wedge to achieve, and it did it no problem. Did the rest of the pile I had sitting there (see pics) and it was a breeze, in spite of every piece being knotted up pretty badly. One of the nicest running machines I've used. The ram moves fast when not under load and everything is about the right height and location to be ergonomic. When I purchased, I was a little annoyed by the lack of a towing option, but honestly, after using it, I don't think i'll need it. The machine is light and well balanced enough that I can easily just walk it around the yard when need it with the included handle, which tucks away under the slide when not in use. In the rare circumstance I need to take it somewhere I'll probably struggle a little getting it on the trailer, but again, this is a home gamer type machine, so not a big deal there for that application. The one little chink in the armor for this is that on the suction hose, they used a smooth bead-rolled nipple on the pump end with a spiral spring suction hose and a worm gear clamp to fasten it, which means it will not seal no matter how much you tighten that thing. I get a little drip drip drip after shutting the machine off with the warm oil in there and it stops after everything cools down. I even tried re-cutting the hose and trying again with a little nicer clamp I had in my stash, and it improved some, but it did not completely stop the little drip. If they want this hose to seal, they need to put an actual barbed fitting with the sharp edges on it just like on the tank side. That fitting doesn't leak at all. Other than that, the only other negative to mention is the lack of a filter on the return hose. If you plan to put a lot of hours on this machine, I'd budget for adding one of those too. I'll probably do so myself, just to make sure any debris that might find its way into the hydraulic oil will be filtered out and help the pump gears and cylinder seals last a long time. Overall I'm really happy with this machine and I strongly recommend it. ... show more

  • It does take two people to assemble..
My husband and I were able to put it together with the help of the tractor.

  • No instructions you have to download them online.
All and all this is a pretty good unit. Beware there are no instructions on how to put it together, you have to download them online. It is a PIA to try and find your particular unit. The instructions are not the best. For instance mine for this unit shows absolutely NOTHING on the start up procedure. AKA on/off switch, choke, gas shut off and so on. You DEFINITELY need two people to put together, the Splitting Ram Assembly that is one piece is about 100 lbs. This has to be picked up and put in place. All that being said, it does work well. I split about 15 big pieces of wood for a try out. ... show more

  • Nice spliter!
Works well! Struggles a little with oak but still splits the wood.

  • A lot of assembly required
This machine is a beast. It has preformed as expected for what you pay for it but well worth it if you got a lot of wood to split. The assembly is not that big of a deal if you got common sense and follow the instructions. Much easier with 2 people.

  • best compact log splitter
The media could not be loaded. I bought this for my firewood buinsness only problem is the pin that locks it into horizontal position was to small I had to file it to size and hydraulic clamp didn't come tightened was also a pain to assemble alone 3 hours. One main downside is the wedge doesn't go all the way so I have to split the wood apart to finish most pieces off when the wood is green. Other than those problems it has split 10 cords of twisted knotted green eucalyptus, oak, and pine [massive rounds]. The black pushoff piece behind the wedge is bent after multiple huge twisted eucalyptus rounds so its best to push it off before it gets to the starting position at least it didn't snap so the welds are decent. Edit2024 may: I have split over 40 chords and going I haven't changed the oil since.. My bad and it's didn't let me turn it on I changed the oil and boom on the second try it turned on shortly after the hydraulic pump started squirting oil but that's normal since you gotta tighten thing once in a while with all the movement and shaking It has paid for itself 30 times over ... show more
