  • Happy but not what it says it is.
Color: GUO035-1
Got this because we have a yearly issue with both mulberry and maple trees growing everywhere in our yard. But also initially because last winter our house was half destroyed by a tree strike that crushed the upper living area and we were out of the house for about 9 months till it was repaired so had tons of clean up to do. So far I'm pretty impressed with this little machine. It's compact, easy to assemble and very powerful. In fact it's (for me) almost too compact. As I'm slightly more than 6 feet tall It's a little low to easily move it around the yard. It isn't terribly difficult but will be better for someone even just a little shorter than I. Assembly took about 45 minutes solo. They may have changed some of the items with the model I have because I read repeatedly that you needed metric wrenches and sockets and yet most of what I needed were half inch. As for functionality, it went through a very large amount of brush up to 2 inches diameter and barely slowed down. Mulches most everything up very finely, almost to sawdust and reduced that large pile of brush to two MUCH smaller piles of mulch in about 4 hours. The ejection chute did clog twice on me when I got into more green wood, once badly enough to cause me to have to shut off the engine rather quickly so as to not burn it up. The clogs were pretty quickly cleared and it fired right up and went back to work. Very easy to start. Runs efficiently, have ran it for hours and still on the first tank of gas. If you're looking for something to handle a lot of brush fast this little powerhouse is a great buy from what I've seen so far. The one downside to it, I've found, is that I wanted it for my yearly leaf invasion and this does not do what the description says. It's a chipper not a chipper shredder. WON'T be helpful for getting the leaves out of the yard. Overall a great machine just wish it did all they said it would. Addendum: ok one other little gripe about the chipper. After the 3rd large load of brush I had to sharpen the blades. Not sure how they expect you to take the blades off to sharpen or replace through the tiny little access door you're supposed to since it is slightly larger than the blades but has no access to nuts on the back. If you try and remove the blades just with the hex screws you'll likely strip them as they are in fairly tight but either way you would have no way I could find to reassemble them. The one saving grace is that though you have to partially disassemble the machine it isn't terribly difficult to do so and put it back together. Hopefully they will address this issue with future models. Still happy with the machine but want everyone to have eyes open as to what they're getting. ... show more

  • Does what is advertised to do (with one small issue)!
Color: GUO035-1
We live in a heavily wooded area and therefore, a lot of trees and limbs end up I our backyard. For years I would burn any shrubs and leaves we accumulated. I decided to try this product instead. The chipper was easy to put together. It took me about 30 minutes. The machine started nicely and was working perfectly. Then the blades began to dull. This happened after about five hours of usage. I was able to take the machine apart and remove the blades. They were in terrible shape. They are not durable at all! So, I ordered two sets of new blades from Amazon. I was able to easily replace the blades and the machine is working better than it did before. I hope these blades last longer. I am by no means a mechanic. However, the way the chipper is put together it makes it easy to take apart if you need to replace parts. My only complaint is the original blades are not durable. Other than that I am quite happy with this product! ... show more

  • Great chipper so far (after 4-5 hours)
Color: GUO035-1
This is a great wood chipper for small (~2" diameter or less) branches. My brush pile is gone! I chose this over one of those combination chipper/shredder units and I'm glad that I did. I doubt the chipper port on those units would work as well with wide/branching branches. This unit is also smaller (compared to the chipper/shredder that was in stock at my local home store) and therefore easier to store. One suggestion is to check the alignment of the input hopper when/after you install it. I found that I needed to pull the hopper upward when tightening the bolts. Otherwise, there was a lip that could hinder small branches from easily entering the chipping area. Update after 1 month and about 8 hours of use: I'm still really happy with my purchase. It's not perfect. It's not an industrial chipper. But it has helped me get rid of lots of branches and brush that would otherwise sit in my yard. I agree with other reviews about watching the output chute (if you don't see chips, it's probably starting to clog) and listening to the engine (if you bog it down, it's going stall). I've sharpened the knives once (angle grinder with flap wheel) and that made a huge difference. I also have a replacement set on order. Be aware, it's very easy to strip the bolts that hold the knives, so I recommend loosening the nuts on the backside of the flywheel first. On that note, I've damaged or lost a few parts. Here are my tips: * The majority of bolts are M8 and you'll need a 13mm socket/spanner. * The outside of the machine is held together with M8-1.25 flange lock nuts. * The knives are attached with M8-1.25 x 25mm flat head hex countersunk bolts, grade 10.9 (and a flat washer, a lock washer, and a non-flange lock nut). ... show more
