    • Where do I even start!?

Okay so first off, I’m in the military and where I’m currently stationed we are allowed to use hammocks which is pretty cool. After receiving this product in the mail, my initial impression was that it’s pretty small when all packed up so it could practically fit anywhere. I understand some might think that the weight is a bit much. But to me that’s nothing compared to what I have to lug around. So it was a win for me. After opening it and laying it out I noticed the straps are suuuuper long. Which was perfect! HOWEVER. The hammock itself is a bit on the longer side. So when finding a spot you’d probably want some space. And I can tell you after using this product in the field for 2 weeks I managed to hook this thing up between two trees that were like 30 ft apart ! Might be exaggerating but they were pretty far apart and still managed to hook it up and lay in it. As far as durability, this guy can handle quite a bit. Straps are great and super tough! No suspicious snapping or tearing sounds when you stretch it out and lay in it. You can move around in it quite a bit without worry. I will mention that i’m about 180lbs so that just might be me. The netting was a lifesaver! I wasn’t bothered once by any bugs! No centipedes, flys, MOSQUITOES, or any bug of the sort! Now I will say be careful of the netting when you are going to get in the hammock because it could get caught up on your rear end and tear like mine did. I was a little sad but ended up sewing it back up and boom! Perfect. MAKE SURE you bring a tarp or something to cover you up if you think it’ll rain! It’s not waterproof. However, it dries up fast! Last thing, one thing I noticed people complaining about was mosquitoes biting through the hammock itself. If you bring a sleep sack or something like that you’ll be just fine. And if you say “what if it’s hot”. Well it’s hot and humid where I’m stationed and I had to wear my pants and shirt a few of those nights. I did just fine lol.     • Comfortable hammock that's quick to set up

I have 2 different hammocks from Sunyear, this and and older version which uses 2 guylines to hold up the bug net. This new version, when packed down, is larger and heavier than the old one, but it's still small and portable enough to satisfy all but the most hardcore ultralight enthusiasts. The majority of the additional bulk comes from the bug net which is very heavy duty, even more so than the already very well lived net on my older version. This new bug net is fully removable and allows access from either side. This might not seen like a big deal but it's incredibly useful to open the other side of the hammock after an errant shoe rolled to the wrong side in the night. This hammock is also incredibly quick to take up and down because there's no need to deal with guylines to hold up the bug net as it "self hangs". The bug net follows a more traditional single ridgeline triangle and won't rub against tarps. Sunyear hammocks come with very nice tree straps with adjustment loops that run half way down the 10 foot strap, giving you plenty of flexibility. The entire package is sturdy, and well made, and the company is very responsive and customer service oriented. At the time of purchase, there were no instructions on setup, care, or how to use. There is also an included elastic ridgeline that isn't particularly useful. If hung correctly, there is some tension in the net and it holds itself up without a ridgeline. If you want to set a proper ridgeline to hold the correct amount of sag or to hang heavy items from, you will have to use some Paracord or similar as the elastic ridgeline won't help. That being said, there are spaces on either end which allow you to fit a ridgeline without compromising normal operation. IF YOU CAN'T ZIP UP THE BUG NET OR IT IS BUNCHING, you are pulling the hammock too tight. Either hang the hammock higher and allow more slack or attach a proper ridgeline. TLDR; Overall, this is a very comfortable and easy to use hammock. Setup is quick, and even if you've never tried hammock camping, you'll soon be sleeping off the ground like a pro. ... show more

Just took my Sunyear hammock on its first week-long camping trip (along with my Sunyear chair). It's my first time ever camping in a hammock, and I gotta say I slept absolutely awesome in this thing. The bugs out in the woods were pretty bad too, so the built-in bug net was crucial for staying sane at night. Setup was super easy, and my Sunyear tarp kept me dry in some pretty heavy rains two of the days. Comfort was top notch. I slept great once I learned how to lay in it. I'm new to hammocking so this was my first experience. Setup was effortless and it all fit snugly back into its own stuff sack. I will very happily use this hammock again in the very near future.
