  • So far so good!
Style: Magnetic Resistance
Keyword points: Quiet, sturdy, easy to use, fairly easy to put together, smooth, good tension differences Why I got this: Since the outbreak of COVID, I've been primarily working from home. I am at my computer desk for about 12 hours a day, 7 days a week (work and video games). My step count is laughable. In June of this year, I had a heart attack (MI) due to blood clots from a kidney stone. It scared me. I had always thought these under-desk exercise machines weren't really all that much "exercise" as they seemed too low-impact. After the heart attack, I reevaluated my stance and realized that while they may not help me shed any weight or gain any lean mass, they will help my leg circulation. Due to the MI, I wanted to work on my overall health and this seems to be a great means of doing so while I'm at my desk. Ease of assembly: Pretty easy. It's not like 'take out of the box and use' easy, but there are only a few parts to put together and the instructions are very VERY clear. It took me about 20 minutes total from unboxing to using. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for "Easy to assemble" only because if you're planning on using this for PT with your arms, it may be a bit of a challenge to get all the bolts tightened enough Ease of use: SUPER easy. The only issue I had after putting it together was that I could not change the settings and it wouldn't calculate my rotation/distance. I had taken out the plastic strap and the display was on, but there was no functionality to the display as far as options or seeing use. I followed the directions to replace the battery (this is probably the most difficult part of the entire machine) and now it works perfectly. I'm assuming the battery that came with it may have been old/not so full of juice, but whatever the case, they do send a second battery and it works fine. Turning the tension knob is easy and the pedals move exactly as expected. The machine doesn't slide on my carpet when in use unless I'm meaning to slide it. It has good enough traction that I don't worry about it moving while I'm using it. Other notes: This is very quiet. The nosiest part of it was that I could hear my pants leg rustle against my chair. Comfortable. I was worried that the angle I'd need to put my legs to use this would be awkward while sitting in my desk chair. This is not the case. I used to have a footrest under my desk, and this has replaced it entirely because it is very comfy and the height is perfect. It doesn't take up a ton of space, it's barely bigger than my footrest, not too high, and not too wide. The packaging was easy to open and the machine easy to take out. Each part was clearly marked. Even the pedals had little removable tags on them to remind you exactly how to attach them! The instructions were perfectly clear, not once did I have to guess what they meant by something or try to figure something out myself. Each step was outlined, there were diagrams, and all needed tools came with the product. Would I buy it again?: Yes, I would. I did get the warranty on it to be on the safe side (10% of the purchase price, so just under $10), but so far, this thing seems to be exactly what I had hoped it would be. I have not had this for too long, and if my stance on this product changes, I will update this review. ... show more

  • A must have for desk job
Style: Magnetic Resistance
I went from floor nursing, walking miles a day, to a telephonic phone nursing position where I’m sitting in a chair for essentially 8 hours a day. My legs would hurt from dangling all day in the chair. I needed something to help keep me moving, since I’m so used to waking. This was definitely my answer! I was a little hesitant at first based on the reviews about the pedals stripping and essentially becoming useless after a couple months of use. And I’ve only had this for 5 days so far. So I’m hopeful that the pedals hold up. If not, I’ll change my review. The display starts up when you start pedaling and shuts off after 4-5 minutes of no activity. No need to take the battery out. The pics above show what I did on my first day using it sporadically over 8 hours. It has a distance counter which is nice. The calorie counter seems to count a little less than my Apple Watch, but it is still a great counter for those that don’t have a smart watch. It said I burned 688 calories, while my watch said 753. The counter seems to be based on average, while my watch uses my heart rate. Yesterday I did 32 miles and burned over 800 cals. I do wish that this had a higher tension setting. I would say I’m in good shape, and I’m on the highest tension of 8. But I also know that this isn’t meant to replace a strenuous cardio workout. My heart rate ranges from 100-110’s but if I’m consistently pedaling for 30 mins or more, it will get up to 130’s and you can feel the sweat. Also, I can definitely feel the inner thigh burn. Setup was fairly easy. 10-15 mins max. You really only have to assemble the end plate, front stabilizer, and pedals. I do think the pedals were the hardest part. You screw them in, which was easy enough. But putting the bolts on the back was challenging. Sounds easy until you go to do it. They give you very detailed instructions and even warn that if you don’t put the pedals on correctly, it can harm the product. It seems I put them on right, so I hope it holds up with how much I use it. It does have a carrying handle and would be easy to move around the house. If you are thinking about lugging this back and forth to work, I would probably just get one for each location. It does create a little bit of sound, but mostly a hum. I use mine in between patient calls so I can’t tell you for sure if this hum would be audible on a phone call. I work from home, but I do think it’s quiet enough to not disrupt your office mates. I heard a click today and was worried it was the product but nope! It was my knee. So I’m taking a break. It is addicting and I can see how easy it would be to overwork yourself on this. You can apparently use for your arms, but I haven’t done that just yet. I was considering the deskcycle, but wasn’t sure how committed I would be to using a pedaler so I went with this option since it’s cheaper at $120 vs $190. So far I’m very happy with this option. As I said, I’ve only had 5 days so I will update if it starts making noise, pedals start stripping, or what have you. This product seems to be used a lot by the elderly or people who have had joint replacements and I can see it being great for that use as well. Very multifunctional for people of all different activity levels. ... show more

  • Heavy Duty Assembly Required
Style: Magnetic Resistance
So the good news is that this is a heavy duty piece of equipment. The bad news is that if you're over 40, and in need of some physical therapy, It's heavy, awkward and requires pro tools to assemble. It helps if you have a sturdy workbench or table with several blocks, rolled towels, etc to prop it in place while you work on it. The front and rear stabilizers go on more easily if you flip it on its back and prop it vertically. Don't bother with the tools included, they are worthless. Get a top notch screwdriver and your wrench set. It took me a little over an hour, Including two painful trips to the tool shed for my pro tools and reversing the front stabilizer because I put it in upside down. At least one of the bolts for attaching the rear bottom plate were so hard to insert, I was afraid I'd strip the head before I got it screwed in. Pro Phillips screw driver to the rescue, one quarter turn at a time. Now I need PT on my wrist and elbow. In addition to my hip! The very carefully labeled left and right pedals, with tags stating the left nut is blue on the inside and the right nut is red, was confusion taken to a fine art. First, there was no discernible color inside either nut.. second,, the screw directions appear to be reversed,, counter clockwise to tighten.. i managed to figure it out and get them on.. After all, I did get a degree in engineering some decades ago. The pedal straps are bizarre, catty corner across the pedals, both angled in the same direction. Not straight, as shown in all the drawings. I am pleased with the smooth motion, adjustable resistance from easy peasy to moderate, and once I got the front stabilizer bar on right side up, not much scooting around. It works best if you push it almost under your chair, so your legs are at right angles at the knees. Not bad for the price. ... show more
