For a magnetic one this appears, so far, to be quite a catch. It's not an easy task picking out a good "affordable" rower. However, a decision had to be made as we prepare the break area here at the office for when people start coming back to work in the building. It's going to be a break-time wonderland when everyone sees what has changed and this is just one of the many improvements. Mostly because it works really well. At first (right now), we have built it at one of our homes alongside some other equipment. To break it in and make sure it works ;0) -- This is also because the break area at work is getting a new floor. So might as well get some use out of it somewhere until it is ready to be slid onto the back of a small truck and taken there. With that being said, it is easy enough to move around that it won't be difficult at all come time. It doesn't take up much space outside of the length (like most small to mid-size rowers), and two people can easily carry it around without breaking much of a sweat. It went together within 20 mins with one person putting it together as the other one hung out for emotional support but didn't touch anything. There wasn't a difficult step in the procedure and they give you everything you need. Outside of a knife to open the box and materials with, no tools were needed. When it comes to performance, it isn't a Concept 2, but it wouldn't be fair to associate the two since the Concept 2 is so much more expensive than an affordable one like this. So if you are hoping for Concept 2, get a Concept 2 (we've noticed a lot of people recommend it in the comments here on Amazon). However, not everyone is looking to spend that kind of money. So if you are looking to keep it reasonable in price, this is a top option for sure. It seems to perform quite well and quietly at that. The only downside is the LCD display is as simple as it comes. You get your normal stats and that's it. No games or anything special. It does, however, handle a good amount of weight and function well for what a rower is supposed to do (row). So it functions well and does it quietly, and goes together quickly. One person can do all the work and the price is right (especially when it is on sale). Is it perfect? No. Nothing is, but the only thing we could find was that the middle support foot doesn't' touch the ground unless you have someone heavy enough on the machine. So worst-case scenario, if this bothers you, stick a thin-ish piece of wood or a book under it to help add some support. It hasn't been noticeable to us thus far, but it could change when it moves to the hard surface at the office. Beyond that, we haven't run into anything to complain about. Of course, we will update if anything has a meltdown. The media could not be loaded. My wife wanted a rower, so after a thumbs up on the Sunny Rower from Coop at Garage Gym Reviews, I pulled the trigger on this. Let's get the obvious out of the way: it's an ugly piece of equipment. It's not going to be the centerpiece of your home gym based on it's looks. Assembly - there are only seven steps to assembly and my son and I cobbled it together in about 45 minutes, at least 10 of which was just unboxing and getting all the parts free of packaging. Resistance: This rower uses magnetic resistance instead of the industry standard fan. Considering the target audience for this rower isn't professional rowers and hardcore Crossfitters, I think it's plenty (with the added benefit of being whisper quiet. There are eight levels of magnetic resistance which should be plenty for the average person to get in a decent workout. I did 20 minutes of Zone 2 with only half the resistance set, and I'm a fairly big, strong guy. Stability - this machine only weighs 50 pounds, so while it's easy to move around and store it in a corner, it's not going to be as stable as it could be if you're really getting after it and trying to generate 100W during a HIIT workout, but again, for the average person it's going to be just fine. I haven't had any issue with this machine tipping or walking around on me yet, and I'm about 6' 1" and well over 220lbs. I have a 34" inseam, and I'm able to easily fully extend my legs on the stroke. Users over 6' 3" might find it difficult, but everyone else will be fine. Durability - the main and slide rails are a fairly heavy gauge steel and should hold up well. The plastic cowling over the flywheel, in addition to being ugly AF, feels cheap and brittle as do the foot rests. Another item of potential concern is rather than use an industry standard chain, to hit the price point this rower uses a nylon strap which will certainly wear out with use, as will the nylon rollers under the seat. In a high use commercial setting these items would wear out quickly, but should be okay for awhile in your average home gym with only one or two users. Fit and finish - nothing about this rower looks or feels premium. You're getting exactly what you pay for, a good, solid budget rower. The cheap foam on the handle neither looks, nor feels good in the hand and will also be a likely point of failure for wear. The few welds on the rail are all good welds with no sharp points anywhere. The high density foam on the saddle is comfy and feels good to sit on. It seems to be one area they didn't skimp on. In use, it feels smooth and is very quiet. I know one other reviewer posted a video of the rower making creaking sounds, but I would guess that's due to loose bolts or the nylon rollers needed to be replaced. The foot rests are designed to be used with shoes. This might not be a problem for most, but I always workout barefoot, and it would be nice if you could tighten the straps down enough to work well for barefoot trainees. All in all it's a very functional, budget rower that most people will be happy with until they can upgrade to a Concept 2 (or a clone). ... show more

Day one, this seems like a great little row machine-so far. Easy assembly and light at 50 lbs, I carried up stairs w the straps on the box solo(albeit awkward). Literally took 10 mins to unbox and 20 mins to assemble. It appears very stable and sturdy. I’m a petite gal and this will be just fine for our house of 2. I can def see that this has its limitations: 1)for heavy and large persons this prob isn’t the best choice and 2)for elderly or older folks, it is small and basically on the ground and 3)resistance is basic,1-8 are weak in my opinion and about 10-16 are more natural, also poor for HIIT (trying to row very quickly causes the resistance to feel weaker as it lags a bit when stressed). Overall, a lot smaller than I was expecting, but the resistance feels appropriate for price and features of a home machine and solidly 4 stars for these reasons. I love rowers in the gym and this is certainly the infant to those, but it made for a very good, mostly quiet home workout. In sum, I would recommend to others as long as you tamper your expectations a little and appreciate the machine for this price and size - then it is a great purchase.
