  • Very poor "user experience"
Size: King Style: Vertical Quilted Pattern Name: Mattress Pad
This purchase was to replace another Sunbeam mattress pad that did not work so well after only 3 months of use (poor heating). I have several issues with this new heating pad design: 1) Jut like the previous pad, the cords between the two controls are not long enough for the controls to comfortably rest on the night tables without slipping. As a result the cords aren't resting on the floor behind the bed, and their weight pulls the two controls unless you secure them with something, such as going around a lamp or clock radio. But then it's not long enough on the other side. If the designers had added another foot and a half or more of wire on each side, this problem would disappear. 2) The buttons on the controls are extremely clicky, i.e. noisy. For something that is to be used in a bedroom where two people sleep, it is extremely irritating that they make so much noise when pressed. I suppose it never occurred to the designers that a couple does not necessarily go to bed at the same time. Silent buttons do exist, so there is no excuse. 3) There is no indication that the unit is on after the control's display turns off. Again, when in complete darkness, you can't tell if it's on or off since the display is completely dark and there is no other light on the control, let alone reading what setting is on. 4) When you press any button on the control, the display lights up so bright that it illuminates the entire ceiling of the bedroom. Again, for a product that is supposed to be used at night, they should have included a light sensor to adjust the brightness. The display's current brightness is meant for a room where the light is on, not for a dark room when someone else is already sleeping. 5) The buttons on the control are too close to each other and that makes it difficult to differentiate them by touch because there is no tactile feedback. The above reveals that the designers did not have their thinking cap on when they designed their product. This is NOT the first time by any means that I find glaring design snafus in any type of product. Examples abound: - a humidifier where the water container has sharp angles (collecting dirt), making it hard to clean, where it should have been rounded angles (not an issue with molded plastic). - a salad spinner that can't be disassembled, making it impossible to clean where the water goes - a printer where the touch display is so small that you can't press your finger on the right control and keep doing something you don't want to do. - a car dashboard that has a shiny texture, reflecting itself onto the windshield on sunny days - and on and on and on. I can give you plenty of similar examples. My engineering background, coupled with the fact that I have designed computer user interfaces for a living in the past, makes me super sensitive to this kind of issues. It is as if the designers never actually used their own product. If they had, they would have immediately noticed the shortcomings of their design. The above being said, the pad heats well, and fairly quickly. We will see whether that lasts. The previous one worked well for 3 months (February to April), but when I tried to use it again in the following fall, it would not heat up as much as it used to, and quickly got worse. By then it was too late to return something purchased in February. This time around, I didn't make that mistake and bought it in the Fall. We shall see. ... show more

  • Nice range of heat, works well
Size: King Style: Vertical Quilted Pattern Name: Mattress Pad
We have gone a year without a mattress pad heater and my wife made it clear she wasn't interested in going another one. So off to shopping I did and purchased this to give it a whirl. PROS - fits our Tempur-Pedic mattress just fine - cords are plenty long to stretch from the connection at the foot of the bed all the way to the headboard and over to the night stands where power resides - nice range of heat, very very low for me, and very very high for my wife CONS - the back lighting turns off and does NOT come back on easily - not easy to quickly see if the unit is active/on or not The primary reason I really like this specific model is that I can set it to a temp of 5 for me and a temp of 12 for my wife. 5 just barely takes the chill off the bed, but really doesn't generate much heat which is absolutely perfect for me. All of our previous pads on their lowest setting still generally generated too much heat for me and I had to turn them off in the middle of the night....which led to being ice cold in the mornings making my way to my wife's side of the bed seeking warmth...which of course was greeted with a swift kick back to my own side. ... show more

  • Not worth the extra money
Size: Queen Style: Vertical Quilted Pattern Name: Mattress Pad
Several years ago, I purchased a Sunbeam Heated Mattress Pad that had zones that you could pick the heat for; i.e., head, torso, legs and feet. Unfortunately, the mattress pad itself got taken to Goodwill and I was never able to find it. I saw this mattress pad and thought I was getting much of the same. There are no zones and while you can pick the heat setting and how long you want the pad to stay on, it is nothing like the other one. And hubby informed me that Sunbeam is no longer making that particular mattress pad. The only thing I paid for is the name. It's not a bad mattress pad but for us, it leaves a lot to be desired. ... show more

  • Warm bed
Size: Full Style: Vertical Quilted Pattern Name: Mattress Pad
I like to sleep in a cold room but HATE to be cold. Solution? Heated mattress pad, of course! I prefer the heated mattress pad to the more common electric blanket because it warms where you are and doesn't overheat my body. I have 2 complaints---and I saw them both when I read the reviews, and I bought it anyway. 1) the cord from the plug to the control is too short. It barely makes it the width of the bed---it's a FULL size mattress and I bought a FULL size pad, so??? 2) the control unit is pretty to look at but hard to navigate in the dark as the cord isn't long enough to place it where I can actually SEE it and the buttons are not raised/distinctive enough to adjust by feeling it. All that said, I love the heat---and my dog is pretty happy too. ... show more

  • Awesome heat for cold nights
Size: Queen Style: Hourglass Quilted Pattern Name: Mattress Pad
I bought one of these a few years ago for my mother. She lives up north, and is always cold. Now, just before she’s ready to go to bed she turns it on so when she finally gets in bed, it’s nice and warm. She loves it and after a few years, it still works great. I just bought a second one to give as a Christmas present for a good friend because it is that good. ... show more

  • Works great
Size: King Style: Vertical Quilted Pattern Name: Mattress Pad
Warms the bed during the winter, can't feel the wires, easy to use controls. I like that it has 2 separate controllers, 1 for each side of the bed (King size). I usually use the 1st setting until I'm warm and then turn it off for the night. Extra cold nights, I use 5th setting until I'm warm and then turn it to the 1st setting for the night. So nice to have a pre-warmed bed in the winter! ... show more

  • Great for cold winter days
Size: Queen Style: Vertical Quilted Pattern Name: Mattress Pad
I personally hate winter and this thing has completely saved me the last two years. I turn it on about 20 to 30 minutes before bed and it keeps me warm all night. I read some of the other reviews that said that it starts to lose its heat throughout the night, that may be somewhat true, but it’s very subtle so when it happens, I just adjust the temperature again. It’s also great when you’ve got muscle or joint pain. Buy this to get you through winter! Highly recommend! ... show more
