  • Great rack, but beware of weak lag screws that can break
Size: Large (25" Arms)
Well designed and sturdy, but with one major flaw. The supplied lag screws are quite weak. The heads can shear off during installation with relatively little torque applied, even after drilling pilot holes into ceiling rafters. Fortunately, I discovered this during installation of the second bar and before I stored our expensive paddle boards on the rack. The heads on both lag screws sheared off completely when final turns were applied to snug them up firmly against the rafters. I'd hate to think of what could happened if the lag screws suffered fractures but did not break right away during installation, only to give way later after our boards were stored on the rack. I remedied the situation with a quick trip to my local big box hardware store and returned with 4 stainless steel 1/4" - 2 1/2" lag screws and washers. ... show more

  • Easy install, great storage solution
Size: Large (25" Arms)
Great, simple storage for your SUPs. Other reviewers mentioned the anchor screws provided tend to twist off, but I didn't have that problem. I pre-drilled the holes and used my cordless drill with the appropriate size hex driver. They went into the joist perfectly. Because people said they had problems with them, I just snugged up the anchor bolts and then tightened them by hand with the correct wrench. Perfect and solid. I'd recommend this rack. EDIT (clarification): For the pilot hole, I used a very small drill bit to give the screw a guide. It appears to be a self-tapping screw, which makes sense. But some reviewers mentioned the screws not being sufficient quality and twisting off. They appeared sufficient to me, but I didn't want to snap one off with the kind of torque I'd need to get it tight. But I also didn't want to drill a big enough hole that the weight of the boards would pull it out. I'm very happy with the results. Summary: I used the supplied screws; Drilled small pilot hole just to guide the screw and relieve a bit of the torque necessary; Used cordless drill 'til almost seated; Finished tightening by hand with a box-end wrench. Thank you to the reviewers who shared your bad experiences and helped the rest of us avoid problems. ... show more

  • Really nice product - except for the stupid bolts
Size: Large (25" Arms)
Like everyone else, I have too many toys and not enough space to store them all. The StoreYourBoard product is a really nice solution. For me, it was maybe $10 more than a couple of the off-brands on Amazon. But the others were hitting me with sales tax - so the net difference was like $4 and change. OK - so I read all the reviews and planned my install. Found the joists by finding the seams in the drywall - and then verified using a studfinder. I used a small drill bit (1/16") to make my pilot holes. I then proceeded to hand tighten the lag bolts so as to not over torque. First bolt went in fine. Second one was 3/4 of the way in when the head sheered off. And like so many others on here, I went to Home Depot and got a set of 1/4" x 2 1/2" stainless steel lag bolts. Back in the garage, I had to shift everything along the joists by an inch. New pilot holes. And everything went up with no additional problems. I've got a pair of SUPs that are now out of the way. The product is very, very solid. I'd love to give it 5 stars, but after all this time and all the complaints, they keep shipping crappy bolts. For those who had them fall, I can only guess that you missed the studs. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUT THIS RACK!
Size: Large (25" Arms)
if you care about your boards, your cars, and/or your kids, do NOT buy/trust this rack system. had it up in our garage for about two months. followed the instructions to a tee and tested each arm with pretty heavy weight/pulling before putting any boards on it. install was spot on. no issues initially. it did the job great. had two SUPs, a long board, and soft top on it, well below the 150 lbs limit. but 2 months in and the system failed spectacularly. as i was taking my long board down the whole system came crashing down. banged up and dented over $1000 worth of boards. what a joke. luckily my kids and car weren’t below at the time. wasted $75 on a junk rack system and now i need to repair my basically brand new boards. pretty terrible product. ... show more

  • Great product however do not follow the instructions to use ...
Size: Large (25" Arms)
Great product however do not follow the instructions to use a 3/16th drill for the pilot holes. This will make holes larger than the screws and they won’t anchor properly. The screws included are self tapping screws so no need to drill beforehand. Please modify your instructions to account for this.

  • Great rack but hard to load the boards on it
Size: X-Large (30" Arms)
This is the best paddle board storage rack for my situation. Easy to install and I’m happy that my two boards are off the ground and out of the way. I went to Home Depot and bought 4 1/4 x 2-1/2 lag bolts after reading several reviews that the ones included in the package are defective. That gives me a little piece of mind because you do not want this thing to fall down on you or your car. I posted a question here asking if it is difficult putting your paddle board on and off this rack. Almost everyone that responded said it was easy. Well, in my experience so far, it is quite challenging. Part of the problem is that the boards don’t slide on easy, they get stuck on the foam. I am going to try getting a large diameter pool noodle and put it on the arms in hopes that the boards will roll on the noodles. But there’s nothing easy about loading a paddle board on this rack whatsoever. ... show more

  • Just What I Needed
Size: Large (25" Arms)
This rack is well designed and constructed. It was easy to install, and does what it is supposed to do, very well. Before I purchased it, I read many of the reviews. A couple of reviewers indicated they'd had failures of the fasteners that resulted in the racks coming down, and damage to the SUPs. After doing my install, I'm unable to understand how this could happen, unless the installer failed to sink the supplied 1/4" x 2 1/2" lag screws properly in a joist. I can hang on either of the mounted components without any problem, so the weight of My SUPs and paddles will not be likely to ever break those lag screws. But if, after examining the supplied lag screws, you have any concerns about their strength, just go to a hardware store, purchase four stainless steel 5/16th x 3" lags, drill out the bolt holes in the mounting brackets, and install with those. If you sink them into the center of ceiling joists, your SUPs will never pull the rack down. ... show more
