  • This "could" be a great pistol vault... if......
Overall, I think the manufacturer has failed in making some very easy changes to the design so that it would generally get all 4 & 5 reviews. The primary changes that MUST be made to make this a great gun vault are: (1) re-engineer the pistol holder with the rods. Remove the gigantic steel bar, it is not needed. Just use a flat metal back with the rods welded to it and mount it where you can easily slide your Streamlight mounted pistol on the metal rods (1A) Just FYI... the shelf is a little annoying... you might just throw it away.. as it gets in the way of the pistol being put far enough on the rods to hold the pistol as the shelf hits that trigger guard of the pistol (2) add an additional red light in the back of the safe cavity need to be added so that you can see where the rods are to place your pistol (3) At least you did add some insulation to the rods, but it was poorly done and stuck out from the end of the rod by 1/2-1 inches and was bent over... it had to be trimmed so that the pistol could be inserted onto the rod (4) the mounting holes on the bottom and towards the front of the safe need to me moved back about 1 inch so that you can more easily place a nut on the bolt that you might want to install on the mounting surface. Currently it is way to hard to get your fingers into this spot to place a nut or bolt and the current holes are just a tad under the door shelf so it is hard to get a bolt inserted because of the angle. (5) Copied from someone else's review: "It may seem like I'm nitpicking on the combination and door release lag, but if you do the math it takes 1.8 - 3 seconds to open the safe, at best, assuming you get the timing just right and enter your combination as fast as the keypad will let you. If you go too fast, you're set back an additional 1.8 - 3 seconds plus the time for the keypad to reset after an invalid combination attempt. In an invasion, every second matters, so that's something to consider and be aware of here." I too found this alarming... it just will not recognize the code if input too fast... this needs to be improved. (6) It may be beneficial to some, if there was a second place to attach the steel locking cable... like an additional option on the side of the safe... I mounted the safe against a back wall, so I could not use the cable and thus had to use wood screws, drill a hole in the back of the safe, and put the screws into a stud inside the back wall... which probably makes it even more secure than the cable... ??? If these items above would be "fixed" I would give it a 5 star rating... the safe is well made but needs these items fixed to be a GREAT pistol vault. If the supplier/manufacturer is reading this, I would WELCOME a new gun mount mentioned in (1) above... and if I received it in the mail to me, I would increase my rating to a 4 or 5... • Good but not great
My overall impression of the safe or that it is relatively well-made, it’s heavy gauge steel and it feels quite sturdy and secure. I’ll make two observations which i think are significant if you’re considering buying the safe. First the safe comes packaged in a box with a shipping invoice and nothing else outside of the safe itself. Obviously there’s no battery when they ships so there is nothing powering the keypad. This means the only way to open the safe to insert the battery and get started is by using the hard lockout keys. When I initially opened the packaging I could not find these keys in fact I opened the box inspected the safe inspected the box and threw away the packaging. I then realized that I could not activate the safe so I contacted the company (they were very responsive) and they told me the keys are somewhere in the box. I went and retrieved the packaging that I had thrown away and discovered that the keys are in fact taped inside a void molded into one of the corners of the Styrofoam packing material. This is an extremely important point because if you throw those keys away your safe is useless. I confirmed that the company cannot send you new keys. Secondly once the safe was set up it was easy to input my six digit passcode, however the keypad Is a little finicky. If you press the keys too quickly or not hard enough the combination isn’t accepted. Additionally even when you successfully enter the combination there is a latency of around one second (I timed it) during which the safe is processing your input and then opening the lock. I think that’s an unacceptably long period of time given the context, so to those considering buying the safe I would suggest you think about the particulars of your use case and whether you’re comfortable with a somewhat unreliable and slow access keypad ... show more

  • Not bad for the price, but not great either.
I purchased this safe about a week ago (2/25/2017-ish) My purpose was to store 3 firearms + magazines (total of ~ 5 loose mags). Pros: - The safe seems to be built pretty solid, at least for what I'd expect when for something this inexpensive. - The 1st button on the keypad has a dimple on it so you can easily identify the first button in the dark - When you press the a key, each button has a blue light ring around it that lights up. - The barrel pegs on coated with a foam-like material (more dense/rigid than foam) that seems like it'll be okay on the insides of your barrel - There are 5 holes on the bottom that can be used to bolt the safe down to something, to prevent theft. - It comes with a steel which can be used to keep the same from walking off. - The interior is padded with a thin foam material, so it should keep your firearms safe from scratching or making noise on removal Cons: - The beep emitted when you press the buttons is quite loud, especially in a quiet room. If you want, or need, a safe that you can open discreetly -- this ain't the one. - There is a small amount of time (maybe 300-500ms) after you press a key on the combination during which another key press won't be registered. So, if you are trying to open the safe quickly you can very easily go too fast and have to start all over again. - After putting in the correct combination, the delay for the door to open is another 300-500ms. - The interior light is a low wattage red bulb, it doesn't put out much omni-directional light and is aimed directly at the bottom of the safe. If you have a full size pistol hanging in the center position, the light basically won't illuminate anything on the floor of the safe. - The shelf under the barrel pegs is about 1/2 the depth of the entire safe, and the pegs themselves don't have any clearance beyond the edge of the shelf. This makes it basically impossible to hang any sub-compact pistol on the pegs without removing the shelf. I tried to hang my Sig P238 and Taurus PT145 with the shelf on, and the trigger guards hit the shelf before the peg was inserted in the barrel. - The pegs are shallow, and there's not much clearance from the mounting bracket they attach to (the bracket is underneath the peg). If I attach a tac light or laser to any of my pistols (even with the shelf removed) they won't be able to mount on the pegs at all. I did see that someone else said (in one of these amazon reviews) they flipped the peg mount over and it helped, so I may try to do that and see if I get the same results. It might put the pegs too high up in the safe, making them unusable all together, though. It may seem like I'm nitpicking on the combination and door release lag, but if you do the math it takes 1.8 - 3 seconds to open the safe, at best, assuming you get the timing just right and enter your combination as fast as the keypad will let you. If you go too fast, you're set back an additional 1.8 - 3 seconds plus the time for the keypad to reset after an invalid combination attempt. In an invasion, every second matters, so that's something to consider and be aware of here. This does the job for now, but I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for something else affordable that will work a little better for me. ... show more
