  • Just the tip
This pocket scriber works great. It's sharp and hard and fits in my pocket. I also use it to align holes sometimes when print together a piece of equipment, but generally I use it to mark my wood work pieces for pre drill holes or lines for chiseling. My only complaint is that the tip doesn't always stay in as securely as I'd like. I tighten it as much as I can by hand, but it falls out sometimes. I like to flip the tip back into the handle and keep it in my apron pocket when I'm not using it and it's come out and almost went into the washing machine once or twice. Luckily I realized before it was too late. Just something to be aware of ... show more

There is no question that this is the real thing made by Starrett. Sharp knurling, fine threads on the collet and fine straight point. Additionally it has a very nice balance and heft that should make it a pleasure to use. I can also swap the point for the harder carbon steel point that is featured on the Bx. I have read complaints that the point falls out. I did notice that it requires some good strength to tighten it fully. I assume that this is to prevent any wobble between the point and the handle. I am always happy to pick up a fine instrument. ... show more
