UPDATE: (Original review below.) After contacting the vendor via Amazon, they sent me a new one, completely free. It's definitely accurate (measured it with the micrometer just to be certain). So, great customer service for a great tool. My only gripe is the fact that you read the distance from the face of the wheel itself, and since the wheel has a small recess to accommodate the marking knife, it's hard to be 100% precise as to where the mark is to be read. Otherwise, a great buy, and I'm happy to update the review. ___________________________ ORIGINAL REVEIW: This tool feels solid. It looks great. Maybe that's why people are rating it so highly. But if you need accurate measurements, it's useless. By the time you get out to the 5 and 6 inch marks, they're off by at least 1/16th. Which is just ridiculous for a tool that has literally ONE job. The brass wheel isn't flush with the gauge either, so you're constantly guessing about where youre actually setting the wheel lock. I'd give it zero stars if I could. I'd give it five stars if the gauge was marked accurately. As it is, I have to set the actual depth with a carpenter's square and then set the lock. Just ignore the markings and use a different tool to lock it in...you'll be more accurate. ... show more

Simple, accurate marking gauge. Extra cutting wheels a plus. I use for laying out joints. Wheels are sharp enough out of the box, but I touch them up on a diamond stone because I’m fussy. The wheels don’t spin which is perfect for hardwoods and fine for softwoods. My primary gauge is a TiteMark, but, truth be told, the layout lines are no better. TiteMark is the Cadillac and Clarke Brothers the Chevy. Both get you where you want to go. ... show more

I am new to woodworking, but figured out early enough that low quality tools amplify any mistakes I make. The CB marking gauge is a solid quality product that would last for many years. Quality materials. Extra wheels is a plus. Both imperial and metic scales help as I often use both. Easy to tighten with you thumb and stays tight.
