Sure its ugly. Biggest thing I was struggling with when buying this was the sizing. I bought the large and my Aussie, who's actually a full size Aussie but ended up being more the size of a large mini Aussie (think somewhere in between there folks) fits very comfortably in there with some room to spare when laying down, and can stand up perfectly as well. Did perfectly on our long, overseas flight. I was a nervous wreck but my dog came out the other side completely safe and sound. Some added bonuses, my dog is crate trained and sees the crate as her "safe space." Now that we have moved, she still uses this crate the same as her old crate. I was scared that since the visibility isn't quite the same that she would hate it, but it has proven otherwise. I know this is a lot of pictures, but I want people to be very aware of sizing. I purchased an extra large cage my dog is 40lbs. I almost wish I would have bought an xx-large. My dog doesn’t pass my knee when standing on all fours or sitting. Standing on her back legs she just reaches my waist and I’m 5’8. This seems like a lot of information but be sure to read the sizing of the crate you pick. I am getting this because I will have to put my dog on a plane soon. I am a little worried this may not follow guidelines. Only because of sizing. Everything else is really perfect. I was really intimidated at first by packaging but it was super easy to put together. Read the instructions and you can’t go wrong. Overall I love the cage just be careful, size up if you’re worried it’s the safest bet. If you look at an airline website and compare recommended crate sizes to this one. This x large dimension is listed as medium to large on airline website. ... show more

    • Great size?
I had purchased a larger kennel for me 65lb lab/blue heeler. The airline said it was to large for the plan from Phx to Boston. I then purchased this kennel Arriving at the airline cargo area, the airline stated this kennel was to small, because the dog could not have his head all the way up. There still was 4 inches of clearance obove his back...I informed the cargo employees of the previous airline email stating I needed a smaller kennel. While I was searching for the airline email they stated "ok, but you need to get him a larger kennel in Boston ( agreeing, but doubtful). Off the Boston, then the Azore Islands in the middle of the Atlantic....with a Veterinarian looking at him in Boston and the Azores They where good with the kennel size. Hopefully, this puts some input if your flying with your best little buddy. Update: the transfer at JFK to an international flight put lots of miles on the kennel, mostly on a luggage cart. You should highlight the 4 "LIFT" areas on the side of the kennel. The handles on top of the kennel are NOT intended for lifting the kennel with a large dog. Which is what one of the airlines attempted. The flight overseas was good, and the kennel cleaned up well for storage. I would recommend a rubber backed rug for inside the kennel. It will not slide around and will absorb most liquids. About to return to the US. Total flight time, 16 hours includes a layover and a flight change. Always remember, your pet is your priority. I purchased 2 large crates. I have alway used Petmate Sky crates in the past, but needed 2 more crates for occasional use in my pickup. These are very comparable, feature-wise and in quality, and a bit more affordable. One extra these crates have are the wheels that some may prefer. And the wheels can be locked down for safety. I did not install wheels for my situation, but they look to be of good quality. The assembly is straight forward and the directions are clear and have good picture too! You can assemble the halves together and use locking clips, which would allow for easy takedown if needed. But it comes with plenty of bolts for a more permanent and positive top to bottom assembly. I the fact that I can use this kennel for travel and home. It’s sturdy and just the right fit for my Pitbull/German Shepherd mixed breed dog. Her bed fits inside of it perfectly. I like the fact that I can leave her water and food inside the kennel and it makes no mess ( this is only if I’m going to be out for no more than an hour or two). ... show more

I chose this one over the petmate cage because of the wheels. Overall it's a sturdy cage. But it is smaller than the similar sized petmate cage. The petmate one is roomier and the door is larger and more securer.

Got this to transport a puppy across the Atlantic via British Airways. Also got a kit for outfitting a kennel for same which was a complete waste of money as this kennel came with everything that was required and better quality. Also, as BA is so strict about sizes, we erred on the XL which was overkill so returned it for this size L., the return process was easy and the replacement item was delivered in very good time. Has the tie down slots on each corner required by airlines to fl, and for generally keeping te kennel secured. It's very sturdy and well built, strong plastic shell with dog proof window grills and door. Even the x-large has top handles for trundling it with the wheels on, or just carrying between two adults without the wheels. The wheels aren't a pain to remove and haven't come off inadvertently either. My husband put it together without a hitch and it didn't take long.
