Description

Kölsch is a crisp, clean, easy-drinking ale. It has a straw-yellow hue similar to a pilsner, but is less hoppy, a bit sweeter and uses pale malts and a small amount of wheat. The lager-like characteristics this ale is famous for are achieved by using a liquid Kölsch yeast. Our private brand of all-malt ingredient kits are designed for the beginner, yet challenging enough for the intermediate brewer. Contains: Brewing Procedures, Specialty Grains, Hops, Fermentables, Priming Sugar, Yeast, Bottle Caps, and Grain Bag(s). All recipes conform to AHA Style Guidelines and include all the ingredients with proven recipes to produce prize-winning brews. Kölsch is a crisp, clean, easy- drinking ale. • Great Brew Kit
I have used several of the kits from this company and they are all great. This was a great choice for a summer beer. Nice and crisp and light.

  • Easy refreshing beer!
The media could not be loaded. This Kolsch turned out nicely. It is the second kit beer I’ve brewed and it is a flavorful refreshing beer with light hop notes and very little bitterness. I think it has met my expectations. The instructions were super easy to follow. The only confusion is they recommend an alternative yeast - I used the included yeast. I think the liquid yeast would have lead to a clearer brew but I don’t mild a bit of hazziness. I’ll be ordering this kit again. ... show more

  • Not bad, not great but still refreshing
Update: I lowered the rating because this was one beer I got tired of drinking. I was trying to give it away. After the first 6, the overall taste became ok. This was the worst flavor I have ever made. I will not buy it again. I just opened my first one early and it's not bad. Its crisp but not a whole lot of flavor. I did open it early so it's possible the flavors havent fully developed yet. It was easy to do and no issues brewing it. It rates up there with some other kits I have purchased from other vendors. ... show more

  • Tasty beer.
This is a very easy drinking, tasty beer. I knocked it off one star because mine came out honey colored and cloudy--not straw colored and clear like a Kolsch should be. Probably needed to purchase liquid Kolsch yeast separately and use a wort chiller instead of ice bath for faster cool down. I used German dry ale yeast and fermentation temps a little higher than normal (70-75) and the beer came out really crisp and clean flavored with a bit of a lemony tang. Get the liquid yeast, use a wort chiller, and find a cooler place and I think your results will be perfect. ... show more

  • So good I have bought 20 of them
Love this brand and kit for making home brew. Comes with all needed to make a home brew. Even comes with bottle caps. Be sure you follow the directions each time as each recipe is different.

  • Good Value
This is a good ale, but it's not really a Kolsch brew. The Nottingham is essentially an English Yeast strain, and it will make a nice brew, just brew it on the cooler side (below 70F) so you don't get any weird flavors. This kit is worth the buy for under $30; would cost more to buy ingredients online or from brew shop. You can throw in 1/4 cup of table sugar/brown sugar, or 1/2 cup of corn sugar if you want to increase the alcohol and not change the taste. ... show more

  • Not my favorite type of beer but is a good tasting well put together kit. Used liquid Kolsch as suggested by others.
Decent beer, I used liquid Kolsch yeast and followed included instructions. Beer turned out great, clean crisp, nice carbonation, good head etc. Good refreshing beer for after work or on hot day, not too heavy but more substance and flavor than a light beer. Kit was put together well, boxed well and the instructions were easy enough to follow. Good beer just not quite my preferred type of beer ( I like darker beers), probably won t brew again. ... show more

  • Good Kolsch kit when you get all the ingredients
I Enjoyed this kit the first time I bought it. I used it as the base for a rhubarb kolsch. Bought a second kit to brew a second batch of rhubarb kolsch and the kit was missing the Willamette hops . Make sure your kit is complete before starting.
