    • Simple and very effective heater...and it oscillates!!
What's not to love about a lightweight, oscillating heater that can be used just about anywhere? This little heater is perfect for countertops, nightstands, coffee tables, workbenches, etc. I would even say it's safe to use in a bathroom so long as it's far from where it could fall into water or be splashed with water. The oscillation feature is great for balancing the heat dispersal in the area, and it keeps it from feeling too hot if it's stationary for too long (depending on how close you are to it). It has several safety features that make me feel much more comfortable using it, especially a timer so it can turn off during the night if you use it to get to sleep. I wish I had gotten one of these ages ago! ... show more

I started out feeling skeptical. I’ve owned space heaters before and was never overwhelmingly satisfied by their performance. I discovered that this Space Heater quickly gets to work generating heat. First, I unboxed it and plugged it in. I had to consult the directions provided in the box to understand how to turn it on and operate it. The directions were helpful. Three small buttons on the top left front side allowed me to select, respectively, the level of heating, whether I needed head shaking and to set a timer. I have a desk at my ranch in an unheated tin barn where I frequently work. I set up the Space Heater just in the front of the desk. The three heat settings include F1 for fan only no heat, F2 for half heat (750 watts of power,) and F3 for high heat (1500 watts of power.) It was 57 degrees Fahrenheit in the tin barn when I started this experiment, so I cranked that baby up high. It immediately put out so much heat that it was like sitting next to a wood stove. It was too hot on the high setting, so I turned it down to half heat. That felt quite warm and pleasant. Next I was curious to learn how I could benefit from the “head shaking” setting. How exactly does a Space Heater head shake, I wondered? It turns out that head shaking is a friendly term for what we normally call “oscillation”—think of a fan that auto-rotates back and forth to better distribute a heating or cooling effect. Head shaking, then, is a good thing. Space heaters like this can have a few potential downsides. Fire risk is one; for that reason they aren’t allowed in the office at the company where I work. One needs to be careful about keeping flammable stuff away during operation. The second potential downside is the cost of operating the heater. On the high setting, this heater will draw about 1.5 kilowatts per hour. In my area, that could cost $0.50 to $1.00 per hour depending on the time of use. At half heat, it would be about half that much. That gets expensive if one is trying to use it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but is much less so if one uses it for an hour or two when needed. The main weaknesses of this Space Heater I found were that the buttons are black like the fan and require good lighting to find the right button and setting. The heater is also made of fairly light plastic. Other than those concerns, it seems like a great back up heater, especially for short periods to remove the chill, with a generator when the main power is out, or to heat a tent or RV while camping. ... show more

Hey folks, winter's almost here, and we all know those temps can plummet faster than my fantasy football team. Enter the 1500W PTC Electric Space Heater, a pretty solid contender to keep you warm without stealing the spotlight. This gadget lands a respectable 4/5 on my rating scale. First up, versatility. If you think space heaters are only about the heat, you're missing half the story. This bad boy comes with a fan feature that's a real treat, especially if you're nearby. It pushes out a decent breeze, so don't be surprised if you find yourself using this thing year-round. Now let's get to the heat settings. Trust me, there's a clear distinction here. You have two options here. My money's on the high setting for those really cold days—it cranks up the heat without making you feel like you're in a sauna. The oscillation? Well, it's there. Don't expect a breakdancing heater, though. At 90°, the oscillation is pretty limited, and the movement is slow, like sloth-level slow. Depending on your vibe, that can be either a pro or a con. Personally, I dig it; it disperses the heat more evenly throughout the room. Design-wise, this unit's not trying to be the life of the party. It's modest, almost stealthy. You can easily stash it in a corner when you're not using it, and it'll blend in seamlessly with your décor. So why not a perfect 5/5? Well, the fan could use a bit more power for my taste.     • Nice little space heater
The MSSHIMEI Space Heater is constructed of a mixed blend of plastic and metal grating, which gives it a very nice appearance. It has a good length power cord. The controls for turning it on/off and changing the heat level could be better. The controls are not buttons but are touch sensitive areas on little control panel on the upper front ledge and are a bit hard to see. Touching the first area one time turns the unit on with the fan blowing, a second touch is low heating, a third touch is high heating, and a fourth touch is standby. The selected level is displayed as a F number on the round front display. The second area switches whether the unit rotates or is stationary. The third area lets the user select up to 12 hours of operation. Operating, the unit puts out a fair amount of heat on the low setting, and a much higher level on the high setting. The unit base is very stable and when set to rotate the actual angle of rotation is 45 degrees. The unit has tip over safety switch that activates when the unit is tilted about 45 degrees. It does shut off and must be set upright, unplugged from power, plugged back into power, before it will start again. Operation would be better if it had a way to control the temperature and the controls a little easier to use but this is a very nice little heater that will be an asset to have in the house. ... show more
