It is plastic and not very sturdy. If someone was to break in, it might give them a moment of hesitation but it wouldn't be a barrier to enter a home. The security bars that are installed midway are better options. I found also that using light sensor lightbulbs was a better remedy to keep entryways less inviting. ... show more

    • Doesn't Stay Up Through Repeated Openings

We have a double sliding glass door and only use the left side to go in and out. Wanted this to keep the right side closed tight. Well, each time you close the left door, this device loosens just a tiny-teeny bit. Then after about a week (letting dogs in/out 5-6 times a day, so probably 15-20 daily open/close cycles) this security bar falls to the ground. We are still using it, but just leaving it at ground level. It still gets 1/100th of a millimeter shorter with every door close, but oh well. ... show more

The bar is similar to a spring-type shower curtain rod. It is plastic and easy to adjust to the proper length; however, it is somewhat difficult to make it stay the correct length when using it in the door jambs.
