  • Easy Install and Just Works...
Easy to install and works great. I replaced a Firegear unit because the transmitter had crapped out and it was less expensive to just replace the whole thing. My firegear unit was more full-featured (thermostat etc.) but found that I never used any of that functionality; this is simple. Total install time <5 mins and it only took that long because I had trouble removing one of the connections on the unit I was taking out. As other reviewers have noted, this unit is AC powered so you will need a plug (which may or may not be accessible to you personally so....) However, I did check that you can still turn on/off your fireplace by manually on the receive in the event you were to lose power in a windstorm or the like. Comments: a) plenty of length on both the cord and the electrical wires which gives some flexibility on where to put the receiver (mine is underneath with all the other controls); b) transmitter paired like clockwork; no fuss; and c) seems like it has plenty of range (although I don't need that much). ... show more

  • Love it!
We love the remote. I received it quickly and installed it in just a few minutes without any difficulties. This particular model appealed to me because the receiver runs on 120V AC, so I don't have to worry about replacing batteries. Our fireplace is a newer direct vent gas unit with millivolt valve that is connected to a wall switch and the insert also has a 120V outlet inside the control panel, so it made this the perfect choice. It comes with piggy back female/male connectors, so I was able to just disconnect the connections from the wall switch, connect the remote unit to the valve, and then connect the switch onto the male connections on the remote. This way I can still use the wall switch if needed during a power failure. We've been using the remote almost daily for about a month and so far no problems at all. I can't speak to how well it will hold up over the years to come, but will update this review if we encounter any problems. So far my wife loves it! Range is very good; I've actually gone all the way to the other side of my house, maybe 30 feet away and pressed the button and it still worked. It also seemed to put itself into 'learn' mode automatically after I connected the receiver to AC power because I noticed that I got the three beeps after pressing one of the buttons on the remote for the first time. The manual doesn't mention this anywhere, but I think that's really convenient. It also doesn't lose it's link with the remote if the power goes out. We are very happy with the system so far. ... show more

  • Works like a charm
Style: Thermostat
Bought this remote (along with a new fireplace fan), on advice from my neighbor who had just purchased a new fan and this remote. He helped install both and it him took a minute because of the type of fireplace setup we had ( it had not been installed fully the way it was supposed to have been - they didn't anticipate someone wanting to add a blower fan and remote control). But it works very well. We love the "new" fireplace that actually heats the living room and the remote control is very easy to use. The price is a little high, but worth it to easily control the temperature that the flame will come on/go off at, or just to manually turn it on/off with a quick click. ... show more

  • Extremely Easy To Install
Style: Thermostat
Extremely easy to install an use. I love that I can now turn on and off the fire place without getting up. The thermostat needs help though... it's not properly calibrated as it seems to read approximately 1.5 degrees colder than standard but that's not so bothersome what is bothersome is the drift which appears to be +2° to -2° from set point which equates to a 4° or more swing in the room temperature when relying on the thermostat mode. That may not seem like much but it's enough to leave you feeling too warm to chilled... this feature needs attention but overall I like it a lot. ... show more

  • Horrible Purchase
Style: Thermostat
If I could give this product 0 stars I would. This skytech product was a horrible purchase. For the price I pay I am extremely upset. The remote never worked out the box and the electrical wires were sparking each every time it touches metal. When I called support to complained they gave me the run around. ... show more

  • Easy Installation, Works Well
After 14 years, the remote on my Heat n Glo fireplace finally gave up the ghost. It had been getting harder and harder to use over time, despite fresh batteries in the remote itself and in the receiver box, and despite tinkering with the screw on the remote. We often had to tap or bang the remote a certain way while holding the on or off button to get it to work. I bought this device to replace the dead remote/receiver, installed this in minutes last night, and it is working very well. The receiver box on this unit is a plug in, as opposed to the battery powered one I replaced, but I had an unused outlet under the fireplace already so there was no problem with plugging this device in. I'm thinking it will be nicer not to have to change the batteries in the receiver box like I did over the years with the old one. ... show more
