    • Solves a Problem for Me, But not Without a Notable Drawback

I have several hose carts at different locations around our house and property. This lead in for for one on my front porch. The original six foot lead in hose is just too long for where I have it. I understand why six feet since most people wouldn't want half that creating greater limitations to placement. But for me, I have to try and tuck all that up sideways behind the hose box to get it out of the way, along with using a 90° coupling to get it started turning in back within a tight space. I've already have several of these stainless steel covered hoses elsewhere, and one key feature they offer is flexibility along with excellent damage resistance. But in this case, it also gives me a lot less to figure out what to do with, being just three feet long. That plus added flexibility make this a good choice for the installation space I have to work with. But I also knew that for whatever reason, all these stainless steel flex hoses come with fittings that limits the entrance and exit to a small diameter, often only 1/2" and less. This one is much smaller, at just 5/16". For perspective, most of my hoses are 5/8" diameter end-to-end - twice the diameter. By comparison, area of a 5/16" opening is 75% smaller than area of 5/8" opening. In other words, flow is reduced to only 25% per minute of what a 5/8" hose would deliver without that restriction in place. For misting and watering some plants by hand, probably not a big deal. But once the restriction is there, it doesn't matter what additional size hose you add. The flow is still reduced. So hooking up what's in the hose real box to a lawn sprinkler, it will take four times as long to put down the same amount of water. Even worse, I sometimes connect this to a power washer. I you know much about those, you know they can end up cavitating if water delivery is below demand for the washer. That not only messes up the output, it can damage some pressure pumps. The bottom line here is this short hose will solve a problem I have with too much lead in hose to deal with, but create others for uses with lawn sprinklers and the power washer. I was fully aware of this when I got it, and decided my plan is to use a different faucet for lawn and power washing, or swap the original lead in hose back if I had to. I use brass quick disconnects on all hoses anyway, so the swap won't take much time or effort. But for those buying one of these hoses, just keep in mind it could interfere with how you expected to use the hose coupled to it, but reducing flow significantly. So think about that if you are considering a purchase. It might work fine, but perhaps it might not. ... show more

This hose replaced the feeder hose that came with my hose wheel. It is a definite upgrade. Both female ends of the hose went on very easily, tightened without much effort and worked without leaking. Despite being steel, the hose is very flexible and I truly believe it is one of the better ones that I have had the pleasure of using.
